there is the Scott Fisher Memorial as well as many other stone memorials large and small for climbers and many Sherpa that have died on these mountains A moving and beautiful area I tied a Kata to the Fisher memorial that a friend gave me for a friend of his that died in a climbing accident We are now here in Lobuche at 16 400 feet which has absolutely nothing going for it other than its location between Pheriche and Gorak Shep A cluster of few buildings sitting in a slog of mud and yak dung We did however get nice views of sunset on Nupse peak with a full moon just above the peak Our lectures on Acute Mountain Sickness are now coming in increasingly handy So far today we have diagnosed 3 cases of AMS in trekkers in other groups and it s only 7 30 In fact we have an ongoing consult on the other side of the table as I am writing this now A Swedish trekker with typical symptoms of AMS Yesterday we diagnosed HAPE in another member of their group The importance of appropriate ascent profile as been driven home Also the Swedish group

bridges of one lane with two way traffic of donkeys mules Jupkyo and sherpas carrying incredible loads of supplies both up and down the trail Tourist season was in full swing as trekkers of many nationalities streamed up and down the trail The views were breath taking as massive peaks often rose up behind the close in mountains Water falls and small old river grain mills were along the trail Then we hit the switch back trail leading up to Namche Straight up does not describe the climb that took us up from 8 000 feet to over 11 000 in several miles It was to be kind a slog of one foot in front of the other Rock steps two feet tall and switch backs An adventure of 7 to 8 hours Often trains of mules crowded us to the side of the trail Jupkyo a cross between and cow and Yak with horns 3 feet long would take a swing at one of our group but we all made it to Namche looking tired and looking rode hard and put up wet as we say in Montana but the group had other interpretations On the way to Namche
