got some of my electronics MP3 player Goal Zero speaker and Kindle plugged into my solar panels so they could get charged back up I had downloaded a couple newspapers to my laptop in Gorak Shep from Amazon Once charged back up I will transfer the papers from my laptop to my Kindle so I can catch up a bit on news back home My 3G on my Kindle will not work in Nepal so I can only get current papers when I have a good internet signal Unfortunately the nearest internet is down at Gorak Shep Later in the morning my climbing Sherpa Lakpa and I got caught up on the status of our route up Lhotse The news was not great The rout to Everest Camp IV has just been finished and Sherpa s are carrying loads up there but nothing has been done on the route to Lhotse Camp IV At this time it looks like the earliest summit bid for Lhotse may not be until May 21st My flight home is scheduled for May 26th That schedule is very tight and leaves no extra time for a delay I will just have to wait and see

  • Lobuche (16,175 ft.) to EBC (17,500 ft.) - Lhotse Expedition - Daily Dispatches
little wind The trail climbs slowly along the Khumbu moraine until a short steeper section climbs up on to the end of the Lobuche glacier where it meets the Khumbu glacier Once on the Lobuche glacier the trail slowly climbs up through very rocky terrain small ups and downs to Gorak Shep At Gorak Shep we stopped for some hot drinks before continuing on our way to EBC By the time we left Gorak Shep it was snowing but still very little wind This was Chet s first time at this altitude on this trip and he was feeling the altitude a bit He moved up slowly but at a steady pace The snow stopped after about an hour out of Gorak Shep We got to EBS at 2 30 PM and were met with hot drinks After relaxing in our dining tent for a short time we had lunch and then moved into our sleeping tents The rest of the day was spent settling in and getting some rest I was happy to get back to EBC and start preparing for a summit push hopefully soon For Chet the afternoon helped him get over his headache By dinner time

  • Pheriche - Lobuche - Lhotse Expedition - Daily Dispatches
for tea in the lodge dining room by 6 30 AM Chet came down shortly after I did and we were through with breakfast by 7 AM After last minute checks of email we were ready to leave at 7 30 AM Our pace today was slow but steady set by Chet The light snow melted quickly as the sun hit the broad valley above Pheriche The result was that a stretch of trail that is often a bit muddy was even more so By the time we reached the first climb at the head of the valley the trail had dried out quite a bit We arrived at Lobuche shortly after lunch time Fortunately we were able to order lunch and had plenty to eat I am feeling pretty good even though I am still on an antibiotic Septra and my appetite is good When we first got seated in our lodge for the night we noticed a nak out in front of the lodge that had just delivered a calf The lodge owner said the nak delivered about ½ hour before we arrived Tomorrow morning Chet and I will hike on up to EBC After a few days
