leaving that airstrip Huge crowd outside the fence apparently trolling for load carrying Lukla sports a Scottish bar a Starbucks and several internet cafes After tea and water bottle fillup we finally headed up the dusty trail literally downhill we lost about 200 m in total today though there were a couple of uphill s Lunch was at a teahouse enroute and slow giving us lots of time to admire the surrounds huge woodpiles and our first sight of a 7 000 m peak wow steep and IMPRESSIVE Rounding one corner we saw our first view of the stunning blue green Dhud Khosi River which we followed and crossed twice on fairly non rickety bridges covered with prayer flags all the way up the valley Our final destination was Phakding about 4 pm about 8600 and we had a couple of lectures while waiting for our luggage to arrive by Zopkyo half yak half cow We are rooming in twos with stunning views of the river and we have SHOWERS yahooo Editorial comment from another member not all of them were hot It s quite hot on the trail so much appreciated Watching the beer consumption of the Eastern European

  • back to Kathmandu from Lukla - Everest Base Camp Trekking and Camp II Experience - The WMS Everest Experience 2012 - Daily Dispatches
back home We gathered again and spent the afternoon at the Tibetan refugee house which sells amazing rugs and cashmere products to help those who have settled here from the Tibet region Everything was made in the house by hand It was a worthy cause and we bought a great heap of stuff to help support their cause and because the stuff was just amazing We ended the night with a great dinner at one of Wongchu s favorite places a Korean restaurant here in Kathmandu Since then we have spent our time grabbing last minute souvenirs confirming flight plans and packing our bags I am really proud of our group We all remained relatively healthy due to the vigilance of everyone We all made it to base camp which is phenomenal Most groups this size have a 50 success rate at best per Wongchu In addition Dena completed her leucine study and we added to the acetazolamide study as well We completed all 19 hours of CME and may have sparked further investigations and trips into Nepal The work we did was not just for ourselves there was some science and education involved and we accomplished all of these goals as well As we each have prepared to leave we begin to think about the the trek the things we accomplished Maybe pushed ourselves a little beyond our own envelops and have discovered that we have changed and grown because of the experience Though the true growth and change that Nepal has begun in us may not be realized for months the seeds of change have sprouted and taken root Lastly however I think we all are left thinking about the Sherpa family we are leaving behind They have all made a lasting impression and we will forever close

  • Back to Lukla- Everest Base Camp Trekking and Camp II Experience - The WMS Everest Experience 2012 - Daily Dispatches
Namche It was extremely steep and the knees of some of us where getting hammered but the landscape was so amazingly beautiful that we kept going What we did not expect was the surprise of the day which became sort of a shot of adrenaline for all of us Our friend Patty had to leave the group at some point because of symptoms of altitude sickness Nevertheless she recovered and went to Everest Base Camp We never expected to see her again but as a warrior she trekked for unbelievable hours and she reached us at a time where we were exhausted and became one of the greatest surprises of the day The group was reunited again Yeahhh We kept going to Lukla and looking from a different angle we saw again a spectacular landscape Every step of the way was a frame of a beautiful picture We finally made it to Lukla around 6 00 PM tired but happy of having accomplished a trek of a lifetime For everyone it probably meant something different For my wife Maritza and me it meant the spiritual journey and an affirmation of our love and compromise to each other in our 25th
