invite Penn State to join Well it seems these Big East folks can t get over it In a Q A posted today at SI com the league s new commissioner John Marinatto is asked about the possibility of conference expansion His answer It s not in the immediate future I don t think our membership has an appetite for it unless it happens to be something that brings value to football If Penn State was interested in moving back to the East we d be interested in that because they bring value Worth noting that Marinatto wasn t asked about Penn State but volunteered us and no other schools It s nice to be wanted but for a lot of reasons not least because Joe Paterno seems more focused on the long shot idea of Big Ten expansion than on leaving the league Nittany Lion teams have called home for almost two decades Marinatto probably shouldn t get his hopes up Ryan Jones senior editor Share this Email Print Facebook Twitter Pinterest Google LinkedIn Tumblr Like this Like Loading July 10 2009 at 5 20 pm Ryan Jones Leave a comment What Might Have Been Penn State s move to the Big Ten in the early 1990s had a huge impact on college athletics helping end the era of major college independents and predicting the conference consolidation that followed But what if the Nittany Lions had made a different move a decade earlier That s one of the questions posed today in a New York Time s Q A with Mike Tranghese long time commissioner of the Big East Conference If you follow college sports at all the whole thing is worth a read but one exchange is especially noteworthy Q do you ever look back and wonder what
