in Cairns This was because CX146 is an international flight from Brisbane to Hong Kong with a stop in Cairns and all the passengers except us were flying from Brisbane to Hong Kong The only luggage to be unloaded We were staying in the Cairns Harbour Lights hotel It is a nice hotel and we had a great sea view from our room The beautiful view from our hotel Our first pinball location is the Leisure Island entertainment centre at Stockland shopping mall It took us around 15 minutes to get there by bus Arriving at Stockland shopping mall It was not easy to locate the Leisure Island entertainment centre since it was not shown on the directory of the shopping mall Finally we located it somewhere near the cinema Leisure Island There was a single pinball at the far end of the entertainment centre The pinball The cost per game was only AUD1 and the replay score was set to the very low value of 5 000 000 It was not difficult for me to get a few replays The cost to play A low replay score However the pinball was in poor condition So I only played two

colour While modifications to Full Throttle have been underway Heighway Pinball have been investing in equipment to reduce reliance on external suppliers and bring several more aspects of pinball manufacturing in house First is their new flat bed printer Heighway Pinball s new printer The Océ Arizona 350GT prints CMYK and white UV cured inks and can direct print onto playfields as well as plastics and paper Playfields backglasses and and plastics can be printed A stack of Full Throttle backglasses The printer contains a strong UV lamp so that the printed ink dries almost instantaneously The new flatbed printer The current batch of playfield were not printed in house but it is certainly Andrew s intention to change that as soon as possible and clearcoat the playfields in the factory s spray booth But if you re going to make playfields you re going to need one of these Heighway Pinball s CNC router The CNC router can cut drill and dimple playfields and also cut plastics using a variety of different tools The different routing and drilling heads And just to complete the set here s their new injection molding machines which can make plastic parts from character models to inserts pop bumper parts and flipper bats The Ergotech 25 80 injection molding machine The Boy 22D Injection molding machine All these new pieces of equipment will obviously take time to master and bring on line but they illustrate how Heighway Pinball doesn t wish to be totally reliant on external suppliers and their associated lead times mistakes and delays for their game parts As we visited Full Throttle machines were being built in the factory Full Throttle playfields and cabinets being built The playfields sit on their slide rails on the line At that moment they were

to say we were shocked At the heart of the problem was the structure of the museum s entry fee which contained an element to pay for playing on the machines which were all set to free play Although this pricing system is not illegal in Hungary the Commission thought it was unusual enough to warrant classification of the museum as an arcade or bar This would mean an annual operational licence costing tens of millions of Hungarian Forints HUF 10 000 000 35 000 32 000 23 000 which would have undermined the museum s financial viability Over time the commission s attitude softened somewhat with the threat to seize the machines and force closure removed But their classification system still didn t accommodate the museum s unique hands on educational nature without considering it as one big arcade So that was their ruling pay a huge annual licence fee and a sizeable fine for the previous contravention Balázs asked Attila who is also a lawyer to file an appeal against the commission s decision with the court and the campaign to save the museum began in earnest Balázs explained the steps they took once their appeal had been filed He said We spoke with several other lawyers and experts in order to get other useful opinions We also asked for a private meeting with representatives of the Ministry for National Economy to alter the related law itself This is in progress and we ll see the outcome We consulted with the Tax Authority in person too and our views seemed to be converging they verbally confirmed to us a way to smooth future operations envisaging only some small alterations to the structure of the ticket price But in their written decisions they dealt with the issue in a

He also slightly re designed the logo and integrated it with all of Richard s art pieces Jurgen said the team showed Richard the many different styles of pinball art found in their gamerooms to give him a good feel for how his design would integrate with the rest of the game We love little details in these art packages which you might only discover on a second or third look But most of all we wanted Richard to use his unique style and ideas he said Once the cabinet artwork had been created Richard designed the backbox side art with the colours matching the dominant hues of the cabinet art The right backbox side art The left backbox side art The five Timeshock artwork pieces stitched together click to enlarge Which brings us to the backglass image Although this piece of artwork already existed from the original game Jean Paul explained the challenge that posed He told us First of all we wanted the art on the cabinet and backglass to match So if we were bringing in a new artist with his own art style to do all the art for the cabinet it would mean that they would have to re do the backglass as well The second and just as important reason was that the community felt the current backglass was beginning to show its age and could use an update After taking it up with our licensor and explaining our reasoning for wanting to make this change they also felt it was the right thing to do and gave us the go ahead Like the original backglass we wanted to show the four different time zones On the original this did not feel really clear so during our first session with Richard we came up

points values of 10 million or more making this shot The CDC ramp disappearing in the backboard note Bicycle Girl guarding the entrance This ramp is also used during the Bicycle Girl mode At a certain point a call out will announce Bicycle Girl is lit and you will need to make this shot It will take a dedicated fan of the series to recognise the zombie on the plastic above the ramp entrance as the Bicycle Girl A bit of text here would have been nice Bicycle Girl is lit she s probably just out of bed The ramp is quite steep and goes behind the backboard thereby extending the playfield then drops a little re appears on the upper right corner of the playfield and goes all the way down to end up above the right inlane Playfield real estate is ramped up by utilising the space behind the backboard Although steep the shot wasn t that difficult to make as the opening is pretty wide and the posts next to it are relatively narrow On the LE model this ramp can lift up to reveal a bash toy in the form of a zombie head The left ramp on the LE Moving on we come to the very narrow Riot Tower shot again featuring the arrow inserts this time with a Riot insert This is much like the lock shot in Attack from Mars in that it has the same position and narrowness The shot can end up against the Tower target the Tower being part of the Prison and bounce from there into one of the two bonus multiplier lanes above the bumper area In front of the Tower target is a Tower insert When this is lit the 2X playfield insert will be lit for a few seconds making all shots score double The riot shot stand up targets and the prison toy Making this shot is normally the only way to get to this area besides the skill shot at the start of the game and the Woodbury shot which will end up in the shooter lane and launch the ball toward this area as well Next to the Riot shot is the first of two stand up targets These advance the P R I S O N letters below the magnet Bashing the doors of the prison which is the next shot also advances these letters On our review game four out of the six letters were already lit at the start of the game but when P R I S O N is completed fully the prison doors will open revealing a big zombie head waiting to be bashed The magnet will grab the ball hold it for a few seconds and then throw it back in some random fashion which can result in a STDM between the flippers If you survive this you can play the Clear the Prison Yard mode Here you have to make all the shots indicated by red arrows Shooting the head will also help to clear the yard which is indicated on the DMD by animations of falling zombies Strangely the individual hits to this head don t get any other visual feedback from the game maybe a software update will address this All these shots will once more advance the letters and when P R I S O N is completed again this will immediately start Prison Multiball During this multiball all shots will be lit for jackpots and you have to alternate between making a shot and hitting the head in the prison to relight the shots much like the Fellowship of the Ring multiball in The Lord of the Rings The Riot shot next to the prison can be used to collect super jackpots These can become quite valuable I ve seen values of 12 and 18 million during testing The big SIEGE insert below the P R I S O N letters is lit during the Siege mode This mode can be started after scoring twelve jackpots in Prison Multiball In this mode you will have to bash the prison doors and you will see animations of the Governor s tank during this The doors have finally opened it s party time Again for a Pro version of the game this prison toy is quite nicely done one could imagine this being done in a cheaper way Hitting the doors is pretty easy from the left flipper but much harder from the right flipper as our friend the Well Walker tends to get in the way Playfield overview showing the Well Walker in front of the prison blocking shots from the right flipper All bashed up straight from the factory Ah yes the Well Walker He s quite a looker isn t he Another reason this game is not suitable for kids This is our next shot and the next major toy The Well Walker spilling his modded guts In front of the Well Walker there s a big insert showing a lovely portrait of him This insert will be lit when Well Walker Multiball is going on The four W E L L inserts in front of him indicate progress towards reaching the mode and multiball Hitting him several times will start Well Walker mode and hitting him several times more after that will start Well Walker Multiball As with all bash toys that are relatively close to the flippers you have to watch out for balls rebounding at high speed and disappearing down the outlanes or between the flippers To the right of the Well Walker we find the next shot which is again quite narrow and therefore satisfying to make and also features the arrow insert combination in front of it this time with a Tunnel insert to indicate well the Tunnel mode In true Pat Lawlor style this shot goes through the bumper area orbits around the playfield rolls over a little hump on the left side and
