full size Concorde and it is spectacular The hangar s most famous resident The guest s tables were set up under the plane s fuselage and wings During the day the hall for the show didn t look anything unusual but at night with the lighting effects it was fantastic We set up right at the side of the loading steps for the plane Once the pinballs were up and working we moved the AC DC around under the plane s nose to take the AC DC v Concorde pictures and I am sure you will agree they look cool Stairway to Heaven or Highway to Hell AC DC ST TNG with G BOAC 100 004 The DeLorean also made it Authentic down to the smallest detail 6pm and it was time for food in the green room We went in and there were four women already sitting around the table eating It turned out they were the House of Angels girl band one a violinist one plays saxophone one vocalist and another on the keyboards We entered the venue around 6 30pm and naturally we had to walk down the red carpet to get in Then we waited for the guests to arrive Guests get the red carpet treatment They all started to come in to the hangar and were given their complementary glass of champagne or three The pinballs at the start of the night They appeared not to be interested in the pins to start with maybe they were scared of them but slowly the occasional guest came over to play One woman played loads of games It turned out she used to play Star Trek TNG years ago in her local pub and she got several decent scores on it A long time silver ball fan Everyone went to sit down ready for their meal so we returned to the green room as there would not be anybody around for about the next hour and a half When we entered the green room there was a group of women and one bloke dancing and I mean dancing just like you see on The X Factor This was the Anne Finnigan Theatre School practicing for the show Both times we were in the green room there was a bunch of guys and a woman sitting in the corner watching We wondered who they were until later on when Paul realised n they were on stage and that they were the 80s tribute band The 80s Experience And they were good We returned to the show about ten minutes before they were due to finish their main course Dessert for the guests was a knickerbocker glory bar With it being a corporate event with some very influential people there we decided that there was a very real risk someone may try to poison some of them so we had to do our duty and be food tasters to make sure nothing was underhand so to speak And I

could choose between arcade and pin there was no question which I was going to throw a few credits into Video driving and shooting games also form part of the collection Attila too was attracted by pinball as a child although he wasn t a keen player of the game Instead it was the artwork which grabbed his attention The first pinball table I spotted at the age of 11 was a Space Station from Williams in a local arcade The machine the theme somehow reminded me of Stanley Kubrick s masterpiece 2001 A Space Odyssey even though I couldn t really understand Kubrick s work at such a young age so I immediately fell in love with this fine piece of artwork At the same time I encountered the beautiful Swords of Fury too which was the first machine I bought for my collection as an adult Strangely I didn t play on these machines back then I only admired them and just stared at them a lot I preferred arcade machines as a kid but now definitely the opposite is true although I ve got some dedicated Midway arcade cabs an Atari System 1 plus a Nintendo cabinet in my home collection at present Between acquiring his collection of 25 machines in 2009 and the opening of the museum this year another 145 pinballs were added to bring the total up to 170 of which more than 130 are displayed These were mostly sourced from Europe with around a fifth coming from Hungary but more specialist titles came from further afield In fact pinballs were purchased from around 17 different countries to complete the museum s current collection More machines from the Pbal Gallery collection Of these both Balázs and Attila have a special affinity for the oldest machines which were the more difficult to obtain while Attila also has a eye on some of the more interesting modern titles too Balázs said I m most proud of the machines which came from the furthest source for example the first Bally machine Ballyhoo 1932 and the first pinball with flippers Humpty Dumpty 1947 I bought these from the US but I m also really proud that we can endear and show to our visitors locally forgotten arcade machines such as Sega Basketball or Midway Shooting Gallery Attila continued I m clearly most proud of the oldest woodrail machines but I also find the Alvin G and Capcom pins very interesting And there is a weird connection that binds me to Pin2k machines somehow too Alvin G Capcom and Pinball 2000 together in this corner of the museum There are plenty of woodrails in the collection too such as this Williams Hayburners from 1951 To take on the role of a museum rather than merely being an extended game room informational cards are displayed on top of every machine and the collection is arranged thematically to showcase specific elements and advancements in the game through the years One of

complete players could continue practicing on the main tournament machines play some qualifying games in the Classic Tournament take part in one of the mini tournaments or head into the city to get some dinner When the second round of the main tournament began on Sunday morning the sixteen players in Division A would all play each other as in the qualifying round However the results from the first round would carry over so the seven players already played did not need to be played again and the number of wins from those matches were carried over into the second round These carried over wins are shown in the fourth column for each group above The same system applied to Divisions B C and all matches took place simultaneously When the eight matches in Division A had been played the number of wins were added to those carried over to produce a ranking The top four of these went into the main final The next four played for 5th to 8th the next four fought for places 9th to 12th and the last four played for 13th to 16th In all of these rounds each of the four players could choose a machine to play and a 4 player game was played on them The winner of each game scored 4 points second place scored 2 points third place earned 1 point and the lowest score didn t receive any points After all four games had been played the number of points earned were added to the number of wins in previous rounds to decide the positions The A Division final was held a little later so everyone could give it their full attention and it was contested by Janos Sandor Greg Mott ukasz Romanowski and Hubert Krysi ski The first three of the finalists could choose a machine to play but the fourth machine was pre selected as The Wizard of Oz The four A Division finalists Greg Mott ukasz Romanowski Hubert Krysi ski and Janos Sandor Janos s choice of Demolition Man was first to be played On each machine the player who chose it played first Janos on his choice of Demolition Man Janos Division Greg s choice was Dirty Harry but it didn t prove to be an inspired selection as he only scored 159M with his three balls Greg starts on Dirty Harry ukasz did somewhat better with his winning 421M total compared to Hubert s second place 280M while Janos was very close in fourth on 157M Play moved on to ukasz s choice of Star Trek The Next Generation With two wins he had a clear lead with his 8 points to Greg on 3 points while Janos and Hubert both had 1 point ukasz begins the third game on Star Trek The Next Generation ukasz was the first player to choose a machine which worked well were added to the UK Pinball Group Hall of Fame an award given to those who have made a significant contribution to pinball in the UK The first of these awards went to Pinball Expo organisers Rob Berk and Mike Pacak who are celebrating their 30th show later this year Gary Flower who has attended all 29 previous Expos read the citation and introduced an acceptance video from Rob Berk Rob Berk thanks the UK Pinball Group for his induction The second new inductee was also introduced by Gary It was the editor of the Pingame Journal Jim Schelberg who was recovering from heart surgery but still recorded an acceptance speech video for guests at the Party The third new member of the UK Pinball Group Hall of Fame was introduced by Andrew and was Pinball Daze s Dave Willcox Apart from running his parts supply business Dave also hosted the new Welsh Pinball Cup at his home earlier in the year and was a major help to the family when fellow Welshman Dave Rolfe passed away last year Indeed the Welsh Pinball Cup awards the Dave Rolfe Memorial Shield to the winner Dave was unable to be at the Party so Chris Williams accepted the certificate and trophy on Dave s behalf Andrew and Chris The final new member of the Hall of Fame was the show s special guest Barry Oursler Barry receives his certificate and award from Andrew Before Barry spoke about his many years in the pinball industry there was a charity auction of items donated to the dinner to raise money for Barry s ongoing fight against cancer Items up for grabs included posters from Jonathan Joosten a refurbished laptop from SJ Computing and a number of Heighway Pinball promotional items Then Barry took a seat alongside Gary Flower as Gary asked him about his many game designs and the people he had worked with during his 30 years at Williams Barry and Gary Barry spoke about the special challenge of working with Python Anghelo where the inspiration for many of his most popular titles came from how he redesigned various start of the UK Pinball Classic tournament also run by Peter Blakemore The fourteen machines from Saturday had been replaced by eight classic machines which in this context meant anything before the there was a maximum of 15 attempts per person Pretty soon all the machines had lines forming in front of them as players vied to take the top score and hold it until qualifying ended at 3pm Players in
