    of Oz and has extended his area of responsibility for The Hobbit to include the playfield The playfield layout schematic has also been updated and as you can see there have been a number of changes The old and new playfields click to enlarge latest version The progress indicators above the flippers have completely changed with the appearance of L O C K inserts or rollover buttons The upper left flipper has been replaced by a third slingshot kicker and the game appears to have acquired a static centre post in place of the larger pop up post seen previously The positions of the two upper pop up targets have changed slightly while character names have been given to various inserts targets and switches Check out the larger version of the image above to see all the names Combining the two gives a better view of how the features and artwork are tied together The playfield artwork and layout click to enlarge In other news David Thiel is now in charge of the sounds and music in The Hobbit as well as a number of future games as part of a multi game deal with Jersey Jack Pinball David Thiel

    week as they kit out the sub assembly workstations and complete the packing area The initial production line One of the playfield rotisseries The deeper we got into development Andrew said the more we realised that our supply chain could be the weakest link for us having to rely on so many part from overseas so we have set about making as many parts as possible ourselves Of course some parts will still be shipped in from overseas The Sealed Air expanded foam packaging machine The silver expanded foam blocks used for packing games More packing materials The size of the team at Heighway Pinball has also expanded with eleven staff based at the company s factory in South Wales and four more overseas In addition Romain Fontaine has been promoted to Technical Director and now oversees all technical aspects of their games The Heighway Pinball team at the factory L R Russell Game Designer Gareth Production Executive Ami PA to the MD Sanyi Warehouse Operator Janos Software Developer Oti Company Administrator Steven Warehouse Manager Andrew Managing Director Dave Chief Game Designer Sveta John Graphic Designer James Design Engineer Romain Technical Director But the biggest news is the revelation that over the past few months the team have been designing building and shipping games Andrew explains In January this year we secured a contract to design and build a new pinball related game In only 4 months we designed this game manufactured 251 games and shipped them out globally Our factory has been in full production for the last 6 weeks These games are promotional items for a major multinational business and have been sent all over the world Although we are not yet able to name the company concerned or show you the finished product for commercial reasons we can show you these shots of the factory taken during production of the games The games being manufactured on the production line The view from the floor as more games are produced Palettes of completed games ready to ship Andrew explained how the deal came about We were approached about making the games late last year and began doing a feasibility study Promotional campaigns were due to begin in April which meant that there were only 4 months to design and build these games Other companies were quoting 9 months to turn this project around We knew this would be a massive challenge but we were confident we could design and build a quality product in such a short time frame We have received feedback in the last few weeks that our client is very happy with their games and they are performing well on location Designing and building these games obviously had a knock on effect for the production of Full Throttle but it also provided the opportunity to set up the whole manufacturing process and learn from any issues before scaling it up to build larger runs of more complex machines Andrew said This has been an excellent

    48 and their match results after 7 of 11 games red shows a loss and green is a win Trophies for the top four in the main gold and Classics silver tournaments Leave it to German engineering and bling your machine out with LED lit pop bumpers and star posts The eating and drinking area with some nice wheat beers served The German dinner ladies team were there to serve you with culinary delights of your choice as long as it was German food A great line up of machines in good condition a few had some issues but in general they were fine Entries in the Classics Tournament cost 3 and players could enter as many times as they wished Each entry consisted of playing a choice of three machines out of the seven available The Classics machines were Eight Ball Eight Ball Deluxe Harlem Globetrotters Nitro Groundshaker Spectrum Star Trek Supersonic The Classics are under way Unfortunately the scores were not displayed anywhere so it was pure guesswork as to whether you had done enough to qualify The top 32 players went through to play head to head matches with the final consisting of 3 games The winner of each game received 4 points second place received 2 points 1 point was for third place and the player in last place got zero points Some of the Classic machines felt the strain and needed a quick repair during game play Fourth place in the Classics Andreas Harre Robert Sutter Third in the Classics Second place in the Classics Martin Janczyk Winner of the Classics Martin Hotze The Classics winners group photo Fourth place in the main tournament Alfons Wind Third place Norman Heikamp Second place Philipp Unger Winner of the GPO 2014 Nico Wicke The top four in

    piece to hang over the reception desk in their entryway A promotional poster for the live paint event They promoted the event for weeks and on the day they set Buggy up on the landing of the main staircase along with a DJ booth and a Kiss pinball machine The stairs in front of the landing function as bleachers and Big Step often hold special events here The main steps into the Big Step Mall On the landing above the bleachers they set up four additional pinball machines all on free play along with some advertising posters for the arcade and for future events at the arcade they have a club night coming up as well as their monthly tournament Future pinball events were also promoted Buggy then painted off and on between 1pm and 6pm Hundreds of people sat and watched him paint and hundreds more played pinball throughout the day Buggy at work The four machines above the bleachers Shrek Spider Man AC DC and Metallica were in constant demand throughout the day as all manner of people from young children to hipsters the elderly and everyone in between gave pinball a go many playing pinball for the very first time Pinball for all ages Playing pinball at this event is one of my greatest pinball memories To play in a public venue in the sun with a light breeze blowing surrounded by hundreds of Japanese people while a DJ played tunes and a renowned artist painted was a surreal experience This is how cool pinball should be This is how public pinball should be This is how pinball should be promoted The live paint from above A video of the day s events Just as many a barcade owner in America is discovering that pinball can be
