    key partner in that project PMEDC helped build a state of the art educational network for regional school districts that is transforming the way educational is delivered and schools interact In the project 17 regional school districts were able to combine their purchasing power to achieve a 1 400 increase in capacity for a 12 percent increase in price Moreover after the project all the school districts became connected to each other enabling them to deliver educational content across the tri county region This project did not just benefit the schools In order to serve the districts the chosen provider PenTeleData had to build new infrastructure across the region Pike County 2 4 times existing capacity Monroe County 60 times existing capacity Carbon County 60 times existing capacity Northampton County 10 times existing capacity PenTeleData also was able to accelerate its roll out of 300 wireless hot spots throughout the region Aggregation Projects PMEDC is now spearheading a Broadband Outreach and Aggregation Fund grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development to conduct a two part aggregation project designed specifically to implement recommendations from the 2005 Report Aggregate commercial demand for high capacity broadband services The two part plan will consist of the following Residential Aggregation Bona Fide Retail Request BFRR implementation Commercial Aggregation The desired end will be satisfied customers who have Saved money by buying in bulk Achieved performance gains Received flatter postal rate pricing and Created a more interconnected community network Coordination with Act 183 Programs PMEDC is making coordination with other Act 183 programs a cornerstone of our approach In particular our application is tightly linked with the successful Act 183 application to assist regional school districts with their new educational networks Schools were taking the lead in conducting demand aggregation projects in many cases

    have been in the business of economic development since the mid 1950 s Over the years the organizations have shared many of the same directors In the 1970 s the organizations consolidated under one board of directors created primarily to take advantage of the various funding programs including Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority loans and the Industrial Revenue Bond Program The organizations also have an extensive history in the development and sale of industrial property The first park now known as the Crowe Road Industrial Park was begun in the late 1950 s and was completely sold out before the early 1970 s The park is still home to seven industries that employ more than 1 000 people In the early 1970 s Pocono Mountains Industries purchased 360 acres to develop a new park the Pocono Mountains Business Park adjacent to the largest general aviation airport in the area In order to develop this property a water and sewer system were constructed with the help of the United States Economic Development Administration E D A and to this day is operated and maintained by PMI s sister corporation the Pocono Mountains Industrial Park Authority Phase I of the park houses six companies that include Mount Pocono Coca Cola and Monadnock Non Wovens The companies jointly employ approximately 650 people New Business Parks In 1990 land was purchased for a second phase of this park United Envelope Corporation currently employs almost 300 people at this location Geisinger Medical Group built a facility here and employs about 50 people There are approximately 104 acres of property remaining in Phase II of the park Phase I and Phase II of the park is now known as the Pocono Mountains Corporate Center South The New Millenium In 1999 Pocono Mountains Industries acquired the property in
