of sunshine one afternoon of absolute downpour I think given this summer s track record that s a bit of a miracle for the Cambridge Folk Festival to have pulled off Unfortunately with wet children lashed by dentally shaped hailstones my little girl said look mummy the tooth fairy has dropped all her teeth the downpour drove us home early to a welcome hot bath mugs of tea scones and a fire in July so I missed some of the acts I most wanted to see In fact I missed all of the acts I d dog eared before the festival started Benjamin Francis Leftwich Joan Armatrading Anais Mitchell most of Dry the River saw some of their set though wonderful but then I did get to see the rich Gerard and the Watchmen what a voice Jessie Moncrieff Daisy Bell and Karine Polwart right up to and including the hailstones I think this patchwork quiltery of satisfaction is the nature of taking small kids to festivals it s a good chance to practise one s patience and goodwill Drop the shoulders buy another toy make them feel good On Friday I was incredibly stressed trying to get on site to do an interview and I can see now it overshadowed my whole day to the point where I was not fun to be around I am still learning how to balance family life with the pointed focus of a working attitude They are not natural bedfellows for me but I live I learn But to be surrounded by in close proximity to all that music even if it is tantalisingly out of reach is so uplifting I feel all my musical nerve endings jangling I did my gig on the Thursday evening in the Club Tent little did I realise that I was in fact the opening act of the festival proper which was amazing and the place was packed I was expecting it to be three men and a dog given that it was the opening slot but I think I benefited from a long soundcheck where people were nosing around when there was not a lot else going on and then a gig time which didn t clash with anyone else So there they all were and I played my heart out and I hope people enjoyed it They seemed to It was a joy to play with my band with whom I wish I could afford to play more often And then I got to do something special on Sunday a live radio session with Sue Marchant on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire with my double bass player something I ve never done before I have always just done radio solo And I loved it I will try and get hold of the recording from Sue as I d love to hear it So musically personally it went really well In our camping circle we had our beautiful kids who are now reaching that delightful age of being

Shropshire fans who had tickets or who were planning to come to my gig tomorrow night in Oswestry at The Ironworks With a very heavy heart the promotor Adam and I have decided to postpone it You can blame a combination of the guy who rear ended me last week and the weather unable to camp I ve been threading my way back and forth across the country and last night I drove from Cambridge to Manchester and back I was planning to do the same tomorrow for Oswestry but last night I nearly came off the road twice on my way back nodding at the wheel Much as I love to play I have a very bad feeling that I ll end up in a ditch if I try it again tomorrow night I am so sorry I don t do this lightly But I fear the difficulties I ve encountered during this tour mean I must do this I m just glad it s only one show from this run of the tour and not more 0 Polly Paulusma Tour blog 3 08 29 12 Polly Paulusma Blogs http www youtube com watch v LFmZ4ulfRg 0 Polly Paulusma Tour blog 3 08 29 12 Polly Paulusma Videos from the road Tour blog 3 0 Polly Paulusma Tour Blog 2 08 24 12 Polly Paulusma Videos from the road Polly prepares for balconytv com interview in Totnes 0 Polly Paulusma Tour Blog 2 08 24 12 Polly Paulusma Videos from the road Polly prepares for balconytv com interview in Totnes 0 Polly Paulusma Tour blog 1 08 23 12 Polly Paulusma Videos from the road Polly video blog at the start of her tour 0 You can t take The Road out of the girl 08 20 12 Polly Paulusma Blogs I thought it was all over when the garage rang to tell us the axle was bent on our caravan I couldn t see a way of touring with my kids without Ella But hope springs eternal and Mick and I had the same idea at the same time renting a little box trailer to put our camping gear in and heading off that way I know it s going to be gruelling Is a camping trip in the UK with two smalls anything less Horrendous damp memories of our last camping attempt to Scotland when the tent actually BLEW AWAY come flooding haha back And what s going to be extra tiring is all that moving around But my little girl just needs me to be around at the moment She s had six months of a very hard at work mum trying to flog her wares and I feel she s reclaiming me at the moment So there was never any chance of me leaving them behind and going it alone Parents of the world unite So I have piles of separate lists in front of me Lists for the gigs 3 guitars 10 jacks 3

been a few months of push push push look at me here s my album and I find my songwriting suffers when I m deep in that process It coincides with a period just after producing something where I just feel empty and happy so the push push push is timely and fills a gap but but the ear worm is turning again now magnetically drawn to a deep frustration at the heart of me to get something out a necessary debridement and I am starting to want to pull in my horns again Yesterday I reached for my irreplaceable Julia Cameron The Artist s Way again and I m off All the push pushy stuff just starts to feel gross which of course it is I don t know it comes in waves and cycles But I can feel the earth turning at the moment I can feel the need to shut down again and start looking listening sitting quietly allowing my body mind hands to translate and rewire the things coming in That s it when you re so busy talking thinking about promoting yourself all the time you miss all the little things that other people show you which are so useful All this wonderful noise necessary noise the hum of other people s pulls and demands and creative outputs It ll be good to just sit and listen for a while And see what the earworms play to me 0 New Glasgow date added 06 26 12 Polly Paulusma Blogs There s a new Glasgow gig added to my end of the summer holidays caravan tour so excited to be coming back Come and see me at Pivo Pivo for a chilled out Sunday evening of acoustica on Sunday 2 September Related show Artist Polly Paulusma Tour Summer Hols Caravan Tour Date 02 09 12 Time 9 00pm Venue Pivo Pivo City Glasgow Address 15 Waterloo Street Glasgow G2 6AY Venue phone 0141 564 8100 Country United Kingdom Notes Support from Laura Healy Louise Cairns Anna Sweeney Add to Google Calendar Download iCal 0 New Manchester gig added 06 21 12 Polly Paulusma Blogs There s a new Manchester gig added to the end of August northern leg of my touring Come and see me on Tuesday 28 August at Manchester s celebrated Night Day Cafe Reserve your tickets here Related show Artist Polly Paulusma Tour Summer Hols Caravan Tour Date 28 08 12 Time 9 00pm Venue Night Day Cafe City Manchester Address 26 Oldham Street Northern Quarter Manchester M1 1JN Venue phone 0161 236 1822 Country United Kingdom Admission 8 Age restrictions No Minors Add to Google Calendar Download iCal 0 Blog Listening to Wilco 06 21 12 Polly Paulusma Blogs I m thinking about which song to do next for a cover So here I sit in my study headphones on and I m listening to the whole output of Wilco What an amazing way to be spending my time I think I
