    others To learn more about our commitment to responsible business please see our CR commitments page We re creating new client services using our distinctive skills and expertise to help others build more transparent responsible businesses We ve developed new Sustainability and Climate Change services and are continuously investing in research and innovation to meet growing demand for support on the opportunities and risks on environmental and social challenges One example of this is Total Impact Measurement Management TIMM the framework we ve developed with our clients to provide the total perspective on business impact Through this work we help businesses around the world turn corporate responsibility into business as usual In response to a growing desire from business government and communities to help create positive change for Indigenous Australians PwC Australia embarked on a challenging long term process to create a separate new firm the first of its kind in the PwC network PwC Australia s Indigenous Consulting is majority owned and operated by Indigenous consultants governed by a majority Indigenous board with an Indigenous chair It provides advice develops strategies and supports their execution to help realise the commercial and community potential of Indigenous projects policies and programs Learn more here We re continuing to develop our approach to responsible and ethical procurement Suppliers are important stakeholders within the global value chain and PwC firms have an opportunity to leverage their purchasing power to influence social and environmental performance in our supply chain At a local level several PwC firms have responsible supply chain policies in place including Australia Canada Czech Republic Germany India Russia UK and US We re considering alternative reporting approaches and standards as part of our work in this space we are partnering with clients NGOs and other organisations to develop innovative corporate practices such as integrated corporate reporting environmental profit and loss statements and total impact measurement and management TIMM We are also considering alternative ways to build trust outside of today s assurance model We believe that it is possible to inspire trust through insight We re promoting transparency in NGOs and private companies PwC Netherlands established the PwC Transparency Awards in 2004 to recognise the quality and transparency of reporting by not for profit organisations The Awards have since been adopted by other PwC firms around the world including Australia Germany and Korea PwC Germany has also worked with local experts to develop Transparency Check a globally accessible online tool which provides NGOs and social enterprises with a free self assessment report containing valuable insight into the transparency of their reporting In 2013 PwC China Hong Kong launched its Strengthening Donor Communications and Mentoring project to help NGOs to understand impactful reporting good governance and robust internal controls Sessions were run in Beijing and Hong benefitting over 100 NGOs PwC UK s annual Building Public Trust Awards are helping to raise standards of transparency in measurement and reporting practices for businesses In the business world the winners are those who fully

    Council for Sustainable Development We re creating a new language for business decisions In 2011 PwC UK and PwC Germany helped PUMA to become the world s first company to produce an environmental profit and loss account In doing so we helped to establish a reporting milestone that encouraged other businesses to connect financial and environmental performance In FY13 we went a step further and released Measuring and managing total impact A new language for business decisions which explores why business needs total impact measurement how to do it and the benefits of embedding it into decision making This helped to showcase Total Impact Measurement Management TIMM the framework we ve developed with our clients to provide the total perspective on business impacts including GHGs and other air emissions water pollution waste and land and water use We ve reported our GHG emissions FY 2013 was the first year that we were able to report publicly on our network s GHG emissions With this second year of emissions reporting completed we now have comparative data and can begin better understand and look at trends within our network essential steps towards setting a network wide emissions reduction target We re supporting the development of water management best practices PwC recognises the importance of water to environmental sustainability and business continuity PwC is a member of the UNGC CEO Water Mandate a public private initiative that aims to assist companies in the development implementation and disclosure of sustainability policies and practices around water PwC primarily supports these aims through our work with clients our thought leadership and by contributing our knowledge and water subject matter expertise to the following initiatives UN Corporate Water Disclosure Guidelines PwC in the US made a pro bono commitment to co lead the CEO Water Mandate s Corporate Water Disclosure Guidelines Since 2011 they have contributed in excess of 1000 hours of pro bono time working with the UN and a range of stakeholders including NGOs corporations and water experts globally World Business Council for Sustainable Development Water valuation thought leadership and guidance for business PwC specialists in the US the UK and Germany served on the advisory group for these collaborative publications issued in Sept 2013 UN Principles for Responsible Investment report on the water risks faced by companies in their agricultural supply chains The report was developed in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund WWF and PwC Germany The report highlights the risks to investors and the companies they invest in and provides guidance on engaging with companies on the issue Virtually all business organisations whether small or large utilise water in the production of their goods and services The extent of this use varies across industrial and economic sectors As a network of professional services firms PwC s water consumption is relatively low compared to other industries such as manufacturing as it is not a primary input to the delivery of our services However we recognise that water management is a wider societal issue

    Netherlands Russia Singapore South Africa South Korea Spain Sweden Switzerland United Kingdom United States Complete list of PwC territory sites CR commitments FY 2014 FY 2016 These commitments reflect our strategy implementation timeline FY 2014 FY 2016 for our 21 largest firms and relate to the implementation of our network CR strategy and enhancements to our CR reporting at the network level Many of these commitments have already been achieved by our larger firms however we know that only by aligning behind a unified vision and approach across the Network and collaborating to measure and manage what we do will we maximise the impacts of our efforts To have a positive impact on the world around us we will 1 Harness the power of our network to scale responsible business behaviours By the end of FY2014 our 21 largest firms will align to the global CR strategy and use their skills voice and relationships to be a catalyst for change through their CR activities They will assess themselves against our CR leadership ladders and develop clear progression plans Our largest firstms will also set targets for improved performance in the questions relating to CR in PwC s Global People Survey 2 Increase the positive social impact of our community activities By the end of FY2014 our largest 21 firms will provide opportunities for their people to take part in volunteering activities that involve the contribution of their professional skills By the end of FY2015 our largest 21 firms will pilot output and outcome based performance measurement for their community activities 3 Manage our impact on the environment In line with our new global environmental statement by the end of FY2014 our largest 21 firms will each implement a local environmental policy and environmental management approach to minimise negative impacts 4
