  • Red Bull Hardline: The Hard Yards
the dull thwack of contact signals his success His brakes give a high pitched squeal as he carves through the arching turn below The crowd open mouthed show their relief Everyone wants to beat each other but at the same time we re going to be up against it just trying to beat the course Reece Wilson Come race day there s a twitchiness around the eight remaining riders From the initial group of 13 Hardline s unpredictable track has weeded out all but the best Dan Atherton s brother Gee finished as fastest qualifier with Smith in second and Wilson in fifth Canadian Mark Wallace whose nickname The Spartan is at odds with his softly spoken manner has travelled the furthest of any of the riders But today he s been reduced to a spectator after a crash in practice As a racer it doesn t get much worse than watching something that you want to be a part of he says Pretty much any track you go to after this will feel easy This is intimidating It s the track you re competing against not the other riders Advertising One section seems to be causing the most worry among riders The Renegade Step up is a steep ramp with a landing some 25m away that s higher than the takeoff point There s absolutely no room for error you make the gap or face a brutal drop to the hard Welsh ground The changeable weather has left the Renegade without so much as a tyre mark Even in this lawless environment it may prove too extreme During his full run in practice yesterday Gee swerved the Renegade If the racers are trying to beat the track the track is still winning I had a massive crash I can t really remember it but I got up and did it again straight away You don t want to be going into a race run knowing that you ve just had a big crash on a certain jump Joe Smith Some of the guys have been retching with nerves says Wilson The mood in the camp is definitely quieter today Breakfast was a lot harder to get down this morning It s becoming a reality now we re here it s the last day I told myself that I wouldn t be fussed about racing it I d just ride it and get down But we re all racers at heart and he trails off eyes locked on his Trek bike His 26 year old teammate Ruaridh Cunningham stands close by fiddling with the tape holding his shoulder in place after clipping a tree in mid air the day before There s no time to admire the amazing views of the Dyfi Valley Taz Darling The Hardline course is littered with hazards both natural and Atherton made Rutger Pauw Red Bull Content Pool Graham Kerr Ruaridh Cunningham and Adam Brayton watch for times Taz Darling Joe Smith took second place

  • Mads Mikkelsen is Hannibal
What I try to do is get into a sort of flow when I m acting At that point I m not thinking I m just being If I start thinking about it if I become aware of what I m doing it will have a negative effect I have to redo the shot as soon as I realise that that s happening What if the director is happy with your work Sorry but there are no exceptions when this happens I always insist on redoing the take because I know that it wasn t good I just know you see Regardless of whether or not the director is happy There s a lot we can learn from Hannibal that life on the verge of death is more interesting and personally I m fascinated by his incredible self confidence My constant companion is a feeling of insecurity It could be helpful when you play fearful characters but sometimes you play the hero Do you think you need to be a bit of a loner to succeed as an actor In a certain way our job is both very social and very anti social When we re working we re surrounded by people non stop We wouldn t be able to do the job at all if that weren t the case At the same time as an actor you re going through a process that s exclusive to you You have to find and explore another life inside of yourself You have to be completely alone for that and you have to be able to do it regardless of how many people there are around you You have to learn how to do that There is something enormously inspiring in learning to follow solely your own thoughts and to listen solely to the music inside you How do you learn to do that Inner maturity Years of meditation Cycling I cycle every day if I m alone for an hour or two longer if there s a group of us Cycling is my drug Ask any marathon runner or triathlete We all know that feeling When you re sitting on your bike almost spitting blood your brain starts producing endorphins They re wonderful little things You get addicted to them I become frantic if I can t cycle for a couple of days So you are in a way a drug addict Ha To a certain degree yes Of course there are times when you re just weak from exhaustion and get the flu That s a bad trip if you want to put it in those terms But normally you just end up with this great rush of adrenalin Some people need danger to get the same kick and climb mountains I m not at all interested in that sort of thing What I m keen to do is to push myself to the limit to the point where there s really nothing left where I just can t

  • Mad Max: Fury Road - Recipe for Reboot Success
helped launch Mel Gibson s career as he played the vengeful Australian policeman Tom Hardy has shown his versatility in recent years with major roles and he looks pretty ominous as a man with nothing to lose in Fury Road BRING IT ON HOW NOT TO DO IT Colin Farrell Total Recall 2012 It was always going to be difficult to fill Arnie s boots and Farrell just wasn t the right man to take on the mantel He s done action films and is a good actor but that wasn t what the first film was about The remake and Farrell were just too serious for their own good and left us simply asking Why It is all about trying to survive for Max played by Tom Hardy Costumes Cinematography If you re going to reboot or remake then you need to make sure you give fans something new without taking away any of the things that made them fall in love with the original Fury Road sticks with the apocalyptic feel of past films without trying to get too futuristic The visuals and characters look stunning and all in the way Mad Max needs to be Fury Road will also be the first Mad Max film to be filmed in 3D so you will be able to really feel the sand in your eyes HOW NOT TO DO IT Robocop 2014 Another of Paul Verhoven s 80 s classics brought into the modern day What was one of things we loved so much about the original Robocop So the last thing you should do when making a remake is completely change the look Admittedly Robocop couldn t look all square and 80 s like he did back then but the film lost a lot of fans with the visor the colour and the human hand Nicholas Hoult plays the maniacal Nux Director Reboots and remakes are difficult things to do and the choice of director can often be a sign of things to come Nothing gets a fan s heart fluttering with excitement more than hearing that the original director will be returning You know that there is potential when they are willing to risk a legacy to get back on board especially when said director just happens to be a visionary like George Miller Mad Max is his baby and he wouldn t be involved if he didn t think he could give the fans what they want HOW NOT TO DO IT Tim Burton Planet of the Apes 2001 To be fair there are hundreds of truly awful remakes and reboots They are not easy to do but bringing in a big name usually sends out a statement of intent to fans It doesn t always go to plan though as Tim Burton and his films Planet of the Apes and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were proof that a big name director and a big budget don t mean success Even Bryan Singer failed with

  • Sam Oldham: “Winning is all about holding your nerve”
You ve got a big year coming up how s the training going SAM OLDHAM It s going well I m working on getting every little dent out of my routines I m a perfectionist I train for six to seven hours a day and I m very critical of myself Winning a medal can come down to pointing your toe in one split second You ve got to fight for your place How did you cope with a major injury last year It was incredibly tough The problem for me was the flexibility in my ankle and the only thing that was going to make it better was patience which is something I struggle with But now I m in a great place going into the World Championships Originally I was told it could be a career threatening injury but now my ankle is about 90 per cent back to where it was I ve learnt a lot from the experience 2015 British Gymnastics Championships Youtube BGtv How important is mental strength to your success When I m competing at a major event I m in the best shape I can be doing routines I ve done hundreds of times The question is whether I can hold my nerve stay in the zone and not think about the outcome Winning is about who can perform best under pressure It really is 10 per cent physical 90 per cent mental Is that kind of pressure tough to deal with It doesn t come easily I ve had to train myself But it s part of why I get up in the morning I need to put myself in high pressure situations even on a small scale to push me on and help me to prepare Have your experiences at London 2012 prepared you for Rio 2016 I m so proud and happy that I got to compete in a home Olympics but Brazil will be very different I ll be at a completely different point in my career In London I was the baby on the team and there was no expectation on my shoulders in Rio I ll be hitting my peak and I ll get my best opportunity to win an individual medal Will you be focusing on one discipline for a better chance of an individual medal For me it s always been about the all round competition In my view being the all round Olympic champion is one of the greatest feats you can achieve in sport I see it as the ultimate test and I ve always loved the challenge of finding that balance between being strong on rings being able to hang on the high bar being powerful on the vault and technical on the pommel horse It s my only aim Training is a full time job for you do you ever have those days when you just don t want to go to work Yeah without a doubt It can be hard

  • Some of the creepiest places to spend halloween
Flickr Flickr Flickr Flickr Advertising 2 BELL WITCH CAVE Tennessee USA Anyone who has seen films like Blair Witch Project 1999 or An American Haunting 2005 will know just how important witches have been in American folklore What most of us don t know is that both films are based on the same supposedly true story The legend of the Bell Witch who made the Bell family s life a nightmare in the early 19th century is perhaps one of the most told and best documented stories in the country Many claim that the cave where she once resided is still haunted to this day YouTube Ghost Adventures 3 BRAN CASTLE Transylvania Romania Who is the most famous vampire of them all No it s not Edward Cullen this title goes to Bram Stoker s Count Dracula 1897 For the story the Irish writer drew inspiration from one of the most bloodthirsty rulers of all time Vlad Drăculea III Drăculea ruled by terror and violence in the 15th century and became renowned for his extremely gruesome form of execution winning him the title of Vlad the Impaler Bran Castle looks exactly like the residence of Stoker s Dracula and is now a popular tourist attraction as Dracula s Castle Historians doubt that Vlad III ever set foot in the castle but that does not change the eerie atmosphere the castle possesses Wikipedia 4 BALLYGALLY CASTLE Northern Ireland United Kingdom The castle which now operates as a hotel is well known for two things the spectacular view over Ballygally bay and the fact that it is haunted by the ghost of Lady Isobel Shaw The tale goes that Lady Isobel was unable to provide her husband James with a male heir and as punishment was locked in the castle tower to
