singer and band leader Andrew Stockdale and is playing the organ and bass like mad especially during show highlight Colossal and closing number Joker and the Thief where Peres is actually standing ON the organ while playing The band sound great and I must say I really like this new incarnation of Wolfmother The addition of a rhythm guitar really fills out the sound Aidan Nemeth plays a Les Paul Gold Top with P90 s most of the show nice choice Apple Tree was one of my favorite songs from the show The intensity was great with Stockdale wailing away Jack White style I also really enjoyed Back Round especially the break where Stockdale sing The tickets sold and the man got rich with a seven year itch Towards the end of the concert my right arm was getting so tired since I had to use it to hold on to the bar while balancing on the foot rest in order to see good I would hoist myself up during the songs and then rest during the fairly long breaks between songs Andrew Stockdale is an amazing front man His singing is great and his guitar playing is out of this world It wasn t until I saw Wolfmother live that I realized that Andrew use a Whammy pedal for many of his guitar solos I find it funny how I am somehow drawn to practitioners of this fine guitar effect like Jack White and The Edge Stockdale is feeding off the audience s energy and plays most solos at the edge of the stage and takes every chance he gets to make the audience wave their hands in the air and clap along For the last song of the encore Joker and the Thief Stockdale as well as Peres

up Much credit to The Dead Weather for not using any pre recorded tracks which could have easily been done instead Alison Mosshart rail thin and wailing away was a great lead singer She was very intense and you could tell that she got completely lost in the music For the fourth song which was the Mosshart penned So Far From Your Weapon she donned her square white Gretsch guitar Weapon which is one of my favorite songs off of Horehound sounded great in the slowed down version that they do live For A Child of a Few Hours Is Burning To Death one of the band s roadies took over the skins for a while as Jack joined Alison on vocals When done singing Jack went back to the drums and continued the song It is worth mentioning that just as when Jack White plays with The White Stripes the roadies all wear suits and hats For main set closer Will There Be Enough Water Jack White took center stage once again and shared lead vocals with Alison Jack Lawrence took over the skins and Dean Fertita played a mellow Fender Rhodes esque piano White did a great guitar solo and got so into it that he knocked over one of Dean s guitars The stage hands rushed out quickly to pick it up Towards the end of the song Jack and Alison kept singing Just because you caught me does that make it a sin far away from the microphone their powerful voices carrying over the venue without amplification at least for us in the front It was a magical moment Dean kept rocking the keyboard stand back and forth in beat with the music The encore featured what may have been the coolest guitar solo I ve ever heard live Accompanied by the drum machine once again they played the new song I Can t Hear You with Jack on guitar The solo was just amazing Jack was using his Whammy pedal to alternately raise and lower the pitch of the notes during the solo He is truly the master and inventor of this technique but I ve never heard him go back and forth in pitch so much before With The White Stripes he usually just raises the pitch an octave and leaves it there but this was something completely different The last song of the night was Treat Me Like Your Mother and the entire audience was jumping up and down It was just so much fun and I couldn t stop smiling As the band was thanking the audience I locked eyes with Jack and gave him a thumbs up After the concert I had to go buy a Dead Weather shirt mainly to have something to change in to since my t shirt got completely soaked during the concert We hung out in the bar having some beers after the show and then we actually went outside and met the band as they

and Starlight were also really great Black Holes and Revelations is probably my second favorite Muse album after Origin of Symmetry Speaking of the latter I was so happy when they played Plug In Baby Man that song is fantastic and Matt s siren like guitar intro is so cool He is a true musical genious They definitely could have done a few more songs from Origin of Symmetry Before Hysteria Matt got a short break while Chris and Dominic played a really cool interlude up on Dominic s platform while the entire drumkit rotated I really enjoyed that they played two songs from their first album Showbiz Cave and Unintended For Cave Matt played a grand piano that had lights in the open lid that responded to his playing Before they started Cave Matt did mention that they played their first show in Sweden in the city of Malmö when they were touring with Showbiz They did have some issues at the start of Cave supposedly with Chris bass But besides that the entire concert was flawless which is amazing considering it was only the second show of the tour What makes this concert one of the best shows of the year for me is that I got to hear every song I wanted to hear When it was time for the encore I kept hoping that they would do Stockholm Syndrome and Knights of Cydonia and they did It couldn t have been more perfect During Stockholm Syndrome their crew threw out these huge balloons filled with confetti It was fun to watch them bounce around and burst over the crowd Knights of Cydonia started with an awesome harmonica intro by Chris and everyone sang along to the guitar intro just like on the HAARP live album classic Although we had seats we stood for the entire show as did most people around us By the end of the show my voice was almost gone from singing along to every song As Muse left the stage Dominic said We ll see you soon Let s hope they keep that promise Setlist Start 20 40 01 Exogenesis Symphony Part 1 Overture 02 Uprising 03 Resistance 04 New Born 05 Map of the Problematique w Who Knows Who Heartbreaker Riff 06 Supermassive Black Hole 07 Guiding Light 08 Interlude 09 Hysteria 10 United States Of Eurasia 11 Cave 12 Unintended 13 Undisclosed Desires 14 Starlight 15 Plug In Baby 16 Time Is Running Out 17 Unnatural Selection Encore 22 10 18 Stockholm Syndrome 19 Knights of Cydonia End 22 30 Pictures Click on an image to enlarge it Videos Swedish newspaper reviews Expressen SvD DN Aftonbladet Written by Daniel Posted in Concert Reviews 7 Responses to Muse Hovet Stockholm 2009 10 24 Irma says 2009 10 25 at 23 53 Of all the concerts I ve seen this one rates at the top It was everything I hoped it would be and more I still get chills when I watch

to a Tusen Tack Thanks a lot but it s always nice when bands make the effort to say something in the language of the country they re in It did look like all of they guys were having a great time there were smiles all around Both Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert are virtuosos on their respective instruments so of course the concert included numerous bass and guitar solos While I really appreciate their talent and find it fascinating seeing Paul s hands flying across the fret board I would prefer it if they played more songs instead For example I would love to hear CDFF Lucky This Time and A Little Too Loose But one thing that was really cool was when Billy and Paul were playing double necked guitars and Eric and Pat Torpey came out and acted as human capos One of the highlights of the concert was Addicted To That Rush This is a great song in itself but it was made even better by the Eric Clapton medley that was included First Paul launched the band in to Sunshine of Your Love followed by what I think was Crossroads I m probably wrong about that one please correct me if you know what song it was I really love blues rock and I was struck by how perfect Eric s voice is for this type of music That s one reason why it would have been so great to hear A Little Too Loose First song of the encore was To Be With You great singalong followed by the frantic Colorado Bulldog That one had been stuck in my head all day so it was nice to finally hear it live Then the guys left the stage and I thought it was over but they came back again and played Shy Boy Eric said the song was Billy s request After they were done Paul threw out some guitar picks and I dove for one on the floor but I didn t get it though However my friend Erika got one It says Mr Big on one side and has Paul Gilbert s signature on the other side I did however touch Eric s arm during the show so I got my brush with fame Thanks for a great show Mr Big and please visit Sweden again real soon Setlist From Random Chatter Music Start 21 30 01 Daddy Brother Lover Little Boy The Electric Drill Song 02 Take Cover 03 Green Tinted Sixties Mind 04 Alive And Kickin 05 Next Time Around 06 Hold Your Head Up 07 Just Take My Heart 08 Temperamental 09 It s For You Pat s Drum Solo 10 Price You Gotta Pay 11 Wild World 12 Take A Walk Guitar Bass Duet full band human capo thing 13 The Whole World s Gonna Know 14 Rock And Roll Over Billy s Bass Solo 15 Addicted To That Rush Encore 16 To Be With You 17 Colorado Bulldog

player James Richardson commented on how much the band enjoyed Swedish artist Lykke Li who played before MGMT Just as the second song of the night started the sky opened up and for the rest of the show it rained on and off Although I was pretty soaked towards the end it was actually quite nice to stand in a warm summer rain for an hour The second song I did not recognize could have been from the upcoming album Congratulations or a cover Opening track of Oracular Spectacular Time to Pretend was the third song This really got the crowd going I was pleasantly surprised at how well the audience knew all the words to the songs Maybe this has something to do with the fact that most attendees were teenagers I remember paying more attention to lyrics when I was younger Now the musician in me mostly listens to the guitars and tries to figure out what effects are being used Dorky I know Electric Feel was obviously one of the highlights of the night It has a sound that brings to mind The Bee Gees in a good way I m impressed with how the band manages to recreate the songs so well in a live setting Even though MGMT is a duo consisting of guitarist singer Andrew VanWyngarden and keyboardist singer Ben Goldwasser they bring along a drummer bass player and guitar player who all do a great job recreating their trademark sound Of Moons Birds Monsters worked surprisingly well as a live song with a nice extended jam that was right up my alley The chorus makes me think of The Mamas and the Papas Another song that I really enjoyed was Weekend Wars It is always a good testament to a bands strength when their songs sound even better live than on record Second to last song was show highlight and crowd pleaser Kids It amused me that most of the song was a backing track leaving the guys to play maracas tambourine and what not VanWyngarden and Goldwasser traded vocals and for a while Ben was lying on the stage singing The maracas was thrown into the crowd towards the end Kids ended with a great guitar solo by James Richardson I did not recognize the last song could have been new or a cover However the two songs that were announced as new I did not care too much about But they will most likely go through quite a lot of changes before the next album comes out The show ended at exactly 11pm All in all I thought it was a great concert and I m eagerly awating MGMT album number two and an indoor show next time around Pictures Click on an image to enlarge it Swedish newspaper reviews Aftonbladet DN SvD Written by Daniel Posted in Concert Reviews 6 Responses to MGMT Popaganda Eriksdalsbadet Stockholm 2009 08 28 Maria K says 2009 08 30 at 08 49 Wow You

actually popped a couple of them with his guitar when they flew up on stage It was nice to hear Glass of Water live it had a really cool space type animation on the screen behind the band Towards the end of Fix You Chris came out on the catwalk again doing his bit where he stumbles around before falling backwards on to the stage Great fun to witness up close Just like last year they did a couple of songs out on the other catwalk I think it s really great how the band strives to give everyone in the crowd an up close experience I do however find it a bit disappointing that they keep doing the techno version of God Put a Smile Upon Your Face What s wrong with the original one After this little segue it was back to the main stage and what I consider the highlight of the show Viva La Vida I absolutely love this song Coldplay s absolute best piece of music so far It s so cool with drummer Will Champion playing symphony drums and a bell When the whole audience join in on the oh oh oh part it s just amazing After the fantastic Lost the entire band walked down the catwalk and right in front of us on their trek to the b stage in the back of the stadium It was great to get to see all four of them so close The b stage part was great They did Green Eyes and Will sang Death Will Never Conquer which I really enjoy Then Chris asked everyone in the audience to turn on the lights on their cellphones and instructed us all to do the wave with our cellphones This looked very cool I think the days of waving cigarette lighters at concerts are officially over For the last song on the b stage they did Michael Jackson s Billie Jean This is the third MJ tribute I ve seen this summer both U2 and Madonna tipped their hat at the King of Pop as well I thought that Coldplay s acoustic full song tribute was amazing It really shows what a great singer Chris Martin is There are some quite high notes to hit in that song and he did it flawlessly Back on the main stage it was time for Politik I hope they will always keep this song in their set It s so explosive and Chris Martin really gets into it rocking back and forth on his piano seat Next up was Lovers in Japan complete with butterfly confetti Towards the end of the song Chris walked out on our catwalk with a japanese style umbrella which he ended up leaving on the catwalk Out of all the epic songs from Viva La Vida Lovers in Japan is the perfect closer for the main set Talk about ending on a high note For the encore they started with The Scientist It was

the catwalk in a white Rolls Royce I really enjoyed Human Nature and thought it was really cool that she had Britney Spears in the video playing on the screens The song ended with Spears saying It s Britney bitch A pleasant surprise was how many of her classic hits Madonna is playing on this tour Vogue and Get Into the Groove were great fun with the latter one starting with Madonna jumping rope and even doing some Double Dutch she can t possibly be fifty years old By the way I must say that Madonna looked really good I ve found her to look quite worn in pictures and videos during the past couple of years but Saturday night she did not look a day over forty to me For Holiday Madonna incorporated a Michael Jackson medley where one of her dancers appeared dressed as the King of Pop complete with his trademark moves moonwalk and all This was a huge success with the otherwise quite lame audience Being the rock guy that I am my favorite moment was when Madonna strapped on a Les Paul and strummed the main riff to My Sharona before launching in to a guitar driven version of Dress You Up I guess it can be debated how much guitar Madonna actually plays but her band sure is great and the song sounded awesome in this heavy rendition I wish she would have done New York as well cause I really like the guitar version of that one from the Confessions DVD For She s Not Me Madonna was surrounded by four dancers all dressed like Madonna from different periods of her career The song ended with Madonna kissing the Like a Virgin version of herself In terms of slow songs the highlight was probably Devil Wouldn t Recognize You from the latest album Madonna performed the entire song atop a rotating piano on the b stage from behind a circular video screen The song is penned by Justin Timberlake and in fact it shares quite a few similarities with his 2002 song Cry Me a River Unlike what many reviewers in Sweden has written I quite enjoyed when Madonna brought out a gypsy band to play La Isla Bonita with her I thought it added a nice touch Sure maybe it s unnecessary to have the band sing a song on their own while Madonna basically just claps along to the beat but I do realize the reason for this Madonna needs to rest her voice and this way she stays up on stage while doing it Speaking of her voice it sounded great I remember her voice not being quite up to par on the Drowned World Tour DVD but now it s as good as it has ever been During 4 Minutes four 6 foot video screens were rolled out on stage on which Justin Timberlake appeared in a life size video This was very cool cause it really looked like

so happy to hear it I was jumping up and down and just screaming Bono mentioned that the video for New Year s Day was filmed in Sweden in Sälen if anyone s interested The song sounded great and The Edge did a fantastic job alternating between piano and guitar As he was standing by the piano he was shrouded in smoke which created a very eerie effect when the lights shone on him After this fantastic song it was time for another classic I Still Haven t Found What I m Looking For The band was on fire and the audience where we were standing were a lot more in to the show than the previous night Before the third verse which begins with the line I believe in the Kingdom Come Bono said I bow down to Princess Madeleine referring to the Swedish Princess who was attending the concert Next up was Stay Faraway So Close a rarity in the last couple of tours Of course it was great to hear Stay but being a U2 live virgin I would have preferred Angel of Harlem that often appear in this part of the set During the organ intro for Unknown Caller Bono mentioned that it was Terry Lawless playing the Hammond organ in the Underworld below the stage Terry has been U2 s touring keyboardist for the last two tours but I guess they prefer to hide him as to not break the illusion of the classic four piece that is U2 I wonder how much of the ambient backgrounds Terry actually plays and what is simply backing tracks Next up was Electrical Storm which Bono introduced by saying it was a song they d never played live before I immediately assumed we d get to hear Drowning Man which the band rehearsed a lot before the tour premiere in Barcelona since Bono asked his bandmates if they d done it before But they quickly corrected him Electrical Storm has been played on two previous occasions during the U2 360 tour How could Bono have forgotten something like that I m guessing his mind was tired from all the partying the previous night The song sounded great in my opinion much better than on the previous two occasions they ve played it The screen above the band extended for Electrical Storm It looked really cool from a distance It stayed open for the next song as well City of Blinding Lights Next up was the remix version of I ll Go Crazy If I Don t Go Crazy Tonight I really love this part of the show Adam Edge and Larry on Bongos walk around the entire catwalk while Bono stays on the main stage It makes me really happy and hopeful for the future that U2 are able to create something that sounds this fresh 30 years into their career And the animation in the beginning of the song with the four of them bobbing their heads
