my first concert and I was completely blown away by the whole experience From this moment on music has meant everything to me and my taste in music is constantly evolving I have always liked Bon Jovi or rather I liked them up until around 2002 2003 when Jon Bon Jovi started believing he was Bruce Springsteen and completely abandoned the trade mark Bon Jovi sound of heavy guitars great hooks and infectious choruses I completely avoided the horrific This Left Feels Right and I haven t even heard 2007 s country flavored Lost Highway That s why I am so pleasantly surprised by We Weren t Born to Follow It is definitely a step back to familiar Bon Jovi territory I read an interview with Richie Sambora at ultimate guitar com a couple of weeks ago where he talked about how the new album will be a straight forward rock effort Now I am quite excited to hear the new album I hope that when it s time for a tour the past 5 years of questionable efforts are left in the closet and we ll get a classic Bon Jovi show However I do have to say that Last Man Standing from 2005 s Have a Nice Day is a great rock song that I hope they will include in the set Written by Daniel Posted in Music Musings 4 Responses to Guilty Pleasure Irma says 2009 09 13 at 15 56 I have yet to be convinced I m hoping the rest of the album will be a bit rockier The new single is still a bit too soft for me considering it s BJ haha Bobby says 2009 09 16 at 22 39 Hey there You should hear we got it goin on from lost highway

huge pink ear muffs She seemed to be having a great time and kept doing the devil horns sign I think it s so cool with parents who takes their children to concerts that s the best education right there Halfway through Mr Dirkschneider s set we started making our way towards the stage in preparation for Chickenfoot and since I ve already written about that this seems like an appropriate place to wrap things up We both had a great time at Rockweekend and really enjoyed the whole festival experience Now we won t hesitate to go to a concert just because it s a festival gig anymore As long as we can stay in a hotel and be dry and comfortable at night I m game But next time we ll make sure to buy rubber boots so we don t have to ruin another set of winter boots with mud Written by Daniel 6 Comments Chickenfoot Live Videos in HD Posted in Music Musings I found two GREAT videos from Chickenfoot s concert in Sweden last week They re both in HD format And the coolest part is that at 2 50 in Get it Up you can see Chad apologizing to my wife for hitting her in the head with the drumstick This was before he came down and apologized in person Get it Up It s All Over Now Nature s Way Written by Daniel 2 Comments U2 360 in Barcelona 2009 06 30 2009 07 01 Posted in Music Musings Yesterday was the opening night of U2 s 360 tour in Barcelona From all accounts it seems to have been a fantastic show albeit with a few hiccups which is customary to the beginning of a tour The concert started with 4 songs off of latest album No Line on the Horizon followed by an amazing performance of I Still Haven t Found What I m Looking For From what I ve heard the crowd singing along even overpowered U2 Angel of Harlem was dedicated to Michael Jackson R I P with Bono singing a few lines from Man in the Mirror and Don t Stop Til You Get Enough This tour U2 are bringing back The Unforgettable Fire a song they haven t played since January 1990 From the clips I ve heard it sounds really good and the stage is really spectacular during this song The giant screen actually splits in to smaller screens that are lowered towards the stage in a funnel like shape Click here to see for yourself In a very ZooTV esque moment Bono called the International Space Station and one of the astronauts actually joined the One campaign from Space For the encore Bono wears a jacket with hundreds of laser s on it which creates a very cool effect When they play Ultra Violet Bono sings through a steering wheel looking microphone that s suspended from above the stage He also hangs on to this and

to get tickets at the public onsale today I feel like it was money well spent I got Red Zone tickets which means you get to stand in a pre determined area right outside of the catwalk on either side of the stage At 250 euro a piece the prices were kind of steep but it s well worth it since you are guaranteed a great spot and you don t have to waste the entire day standing in line My wife and I will be taking the overnight ferry from Stockholm to Helsinki and there is actually talk about a possible U2 cruise with Swedish U2 tribute W2 That would be a nice added bonus Then on Thursday we bought tickets to see Henry Rollins on one of his spoken word appearances in January My wife saw him last time he was in Stockholm and she had a blast Apparently he has some really funny interesting stories to share Irma told me one about when Rollins met David Lee Roth that was just hilarious So that s going to be a fun evening When I got back from lunch on Thursday and the Henry Rollins tickets were taken care of came the biggest surprised of all I had a message from my wife that said The Dead Weather is coming to Stockholm I couldn t believe it As you would know if you ve been reading my blog for a while I m a huge Jack White fan I had already resigned myself to the fact that The Dead Weather would not be visiting Stockholm on their European tour and had actually been thinking about going to Amsterdam to see them So glad I hadn t acted on that impulse So we got tickets general admission I will do

the funk jazz fusion realm but it doesn t feel contrived like a lot of music in that genre has a tendency to do It is fun music with a nice funky groove to it quite reminiscent of classic RHCP In an interview on The Preston and Steve Show on Philadelphia s WMMR radio station Chad talked about how the record might not be for everyone but how it s a fun record and not just a bunch of guys trying to play a million notes a minute Chad also talked about how he is scheduled to start writing songs with Red Hot Chili Peppers on October 12th and because of that there won t be a proper tour with the Meatbats He went on to say that the Chili s writing process would most likely take around six months and that hopefully they d have an album out by this time next year I can t wait for new Chili Peppers material and a tour but it would be really nice if Chickenfoot managed to squeeze in one more European tour during the winter Chickenfoot are by far the biggest surprise hit this year if you ask me The pure joy displayed by all four members when they play live makes for a fantastic show But for now broaden your horizon and check out Chad Smith s Bombastic Meatbats As a side note I have to mention that Chad also talked about how he likes to throw drumsticks to the crowd as long as they pay attention and don t get hit in the head Hmm wonder what he could have possibly been referring to Written by Daniel Posted in Music Musings 4 Responses to Chad Smith s Bombastic Meatbats Irma says 2009 09 22 at 18 23 Dammit

a mean guitar I discovered the band because they are the opening act for Chickenfoot on their U S tour and in every Chickenfoot review I ve read people are praising Davy Knowles Back Door Slam so I just had to check them out Davy Knowles have two albums so far 2007 s Roll Away was recorded as a trio with band mates Adam Jones on bass and drummer Ross Doyle I ve been listening to this album over and over and it s just mind blowing It s like a rawer grittier version of Kenny Wayne Shepherd My favorite song is the opening track Come Home but really all the songs are great The trio parted ways in early 2009 and Davy recorded the follow up with new musicians among them Peter Frampton who also co produced the album Released in June 2009 Coming Up For Air continues in the same tradition as its predecessor but with a fuller sound in my opinion Check out the title track and Tear Down The Walls on Davy s MySpace page Now how about a European tour Davy Written by Daniel Posted in Music Musings 3 Responses to Davy Knowles Back Door

03 04 Main Bono Karaoke The Return of The Darkness 2011 04 14 About a year ago rumors started that British glam rockers The Darkness were reuniting Brothers Justin and Dan Hawkins were said to have buried the hatchet and started writing music together again Then all was quiet up until a couple of months ago when all of a sudden an official Facebook group for The Darkness appeared and a website theactualdarkness com Now it seems as though a summer tour is in the works and with the original four piece lineup none the less The Darkness are scheduled to appear at the Download Festival on June 10th as well as Getaway Rock in Sweden on July 8th I fondly remember seeing The Darkness back in 2004 at Fryshuset in Stockholm and the great show they put on At one point Justin passed right by where we were standing during Love on the Rocks With No Ice when one of the crew members were carrying him around on his shoulders through the audience while he played the guitar solo There are also reports coming out of a new album that is supposedly almost done Hopefully this means that we

of the Valkyries They opened with Black Country followed by One Last Soul I was struck by what an amazing bass player Glenn Hughes is Like my wife said Glenn PLAYS the bass he doesn t just play back up I also really like all the rock star poses he does with his bass they are truely his own Joe got to do The Battle for Hadrian s Wall from 2 and Song of Yesterday from Black Country Communion Hadrian s Wall was played on a Music Man 6 12 doubleneck guitar with Joe playing the Led Zeppelin inspired main riff on the 12 string I think I can safely say that Song of Yesterday was my absolute favorite song of the evening As you can see in the video below it turns in to a 10 minute monster when performed live Actually Cold is tied for number one as favorite song It is such a great song written by Glenn and as he explains in the beginning of the video it s about saying goodbye to friends and family that have passed that he never got to say goodbye to The song is great on the album but it s even better live Glenn has such an amazing voice It s hard to believe that someone can hit all those high notes at 59 since many singers get a lower register over time But not Glenn he keeps wailing away like time s been standing still since the early seventies I urge everyone to check out the video of Glenn playing Cold on an acoustic guitar during a press conference in Spain earlier in the year My wife actually complemented Glenn on this version during the meet and greet and he said it was originally written for acoustic guitar The band covered Joe s song The Ballad of John Henry This was one of the best songs of the night and I m really happy they ve decided to include it in their repertoire I noticed that Joe played the song on a Les Paul which makes me wonder about the tuning I know that he usually plays it on a baritone guitar since otherwise you have to tune down the low E to a B He must use really heavy gauge strings on that one After a keyboard and organ solo by Derek Sherinian the main set ended with the excellent Sista Jane which ended with the outro to The Who s Won t Get Fooled Again It was nice how they ended the show with Glenn s Deep Purple classic Burn It has made me appreciate Deep Purple in a different way not that I didn t like them before but there s just so much good music out there that at some point you just lose track of what you should try to listen to In conclusion I d like to say that Black Country Communion is a great live band with a joy for performing

Sickness and have remained there since Unfortunately lead singer David Draiman has issued a statement saying that the band will not be touring in 2012 and will go on an indefinite hiatus Going into their last tour Disturbed was looking to amp up their production quality With a busy summer schedule their first ever dates in South America and a new album to their name Asylum the heavy rock foursome opted for a more elaborate display To do so they enlisted digital artist Charlie Terrell Known for his macabre digital paintings and his sardonic country music Terrell seemed the perfect candidate to create the stunning visuals for Disturbed s final tour My video is not my true voice it is the residue of my ambition Terrell stated But when I m working with a client I like the challenge of trying to please them even though it s not necessarily my own work That s the real challenge Charlie and Disturbed worked together to create a crop of new visuals that represented the band s new material on Asylum but also included the band s previous music and artwork It s hard for us as artists and as a band to give that creativity to someone else and trust their vision said Disturbed lead guitarist Dan Donegan and Charlie had a nice sense of direction some cool dark images and was pretty much on the same page as where we are with the imagery A lot of stuff just really blew us away Terrell had to contend with the band s early career success and the various iconic figures that went along with it Well known for their dark side Disturbed s official mascot a sinister smiling hooded figure known as The Guy had been a part of their visual
