    landscapes and are based according to the artist on a long running conversation with Irish landscapes Born in Dun Laoghaire Rod Coyne studied locally before graduating from the Crawford College of Art in Cork After 10 years working in Düsseldorf studio he returned to Ireland in 1999 The same year saw Rod as a winner of the prestigious London South Bank Banner competition His paintings grace private public and corporate collections alike including Irish Central Bank Bank of Ireland Department of Justice the Shelbourne Hotel Dublin OPW Gerling Global Insurances Germany Private collections include F1 boss Eddie Jordan actor Daniel Day Lewis author Marian Keyes Solicitor Gerald Kean and former German ambassador Gottfried Haas The artist pays homage to nature and the holy sites of our ancient history from Paganism to Christianity Water is a constant theme drawing him to mountain lakes rivers and the ocean s coastlines For the past ten years he has been working en plein air to capture the beauty of land and sea sometimes depicting exactly what he sees and dissolving it down until only an essence remains The artist exhibits extensively in Ireland and abroad including the Origin Gallery Royal Hibernian Academy RUA Solomon
