    your application Step 2 The Meeting Once your application is approved an appointment can be made to meet the dog You can meet the dog privately or at one of our mobile adoption events which are held every other Saturday We require that everyone in the immediate family including your current dog if you have one come to the appointment to meet your potential new dog Adopting a dog is a big family decision and requires a commitment from everyone If you currently own a dog it must be up to date on shots spayed neutered and wear an i d tag At the appointment an adoption counselor from Rover Rescue will help you assess whether the dog is a good match for your lifestyle and your family The counselor can also answer any questions you may have about the adoption process Sometimes we will also proceed with a home check Dogs from animal shelters can be amazing escape artists By visiting your home we can help you identify potential escape routes and keep your new dog safe and secure Step 3 The Adoption Before you bring your new dog home you must sign a contractual agreement with Rover Rescue In addition a 200 00 adoption donation is requested In some cases the adoption donation might be slightly higher for purebreds puppies or if the medical expenses involved in rescuing your dog were excessive The adoption donation is non refundable Please remember that adoption contributions barely cover our expenses Additional donations are greatly appreciated and will help us continue our life saving work Rover Rescue will also provide you with dog care literature and pet insurance costing only 1 the first month Step 4 Post Adoption Follow Up Our goal is to help you enjoy life with your new dog

    and make sure the water bowl has a plentiful supply of fresh water at all times Your local pet store can recommend a nutritious food Special Note Never feed your dog chocolate It is like a poison to a dog and can be fatal Baby Gate Never leave a new dog the run of the house when you are not at home We suggest buying a baby gate that can be attached to your kitchen where your dog can stay when not supervised Collar and Leash A flat leather or nylon buckle collar is best Be sure and attach an identification tag to the collar immediately If you choose to train your dog with a choke chain never leave it on after training The chain could hook on something and cause strangulation A leather or nylon lead about four to six feet is ideal for walks and obedience training You may also want a long retractable lead designed for long distance training and general exercising and walking A new puppy will take some time to get used to a leash Let him drag it around for a few days Then pick up the end of the leash trying to avoid tug of war games and walk with him slowly so he gets the idea Always make sure that as your puppy grows you lengthen the collar Toys Dogs love to play and toys are a great pastime Various sizes of hard rubber bones and balls rings and tug toys are all good especially if they re designed specifically for dogs Avoid anything which can be torn up or that has parts which could harm the dog if they re chewed or swallowed Avoid clothing items too such as scraps of leather or old socks it makes it difficult for your

    Rover Rescue is making no representations or warranties about the condition lineage personality or temperament of the dog I will give the dog proper food water shelter affection exercise and medical treatment when necessary including booster shots I agree to have the dog examined by a licensed veterinarian within 2 weeks of adoption I agree that the dog will always wear an I D tag I agree that the dog will not be used solely as a guard dog I will never tie the dog to the end of a rope or chain and under no circumstances will I let the dog run loose unattended in the neighborhood I agree that if I cannot keep this dog for any reason I CANNOT GIVE AWAY OR SELL HIM HER I must do one of the following Return the dog to Rover Rescue Obtain approval from Rover Rescue to transfer ownership of the dog to a friend or relative Rover Rescue must approve the new adopter and the new adopter will be required to sign an agreement similar to this one Continue to board the dog for a brief time allowing Rover Rescue to actively seek a new home I will notify Rover Rescue and the microchip company immediately if I have any change of address or telephone number I agree that Rover Rescue may make a follow up visit at a mutually convenient time to ascertain that the above conditions have been satisfied In the event that I do not comply with the terms of this Agreement or the dog is abused or neglected one of Rover Rescue s remedies will be to recover the dog from me upon demand Promptly after the demand Rover Rescue will come to my residence and I will surrender the dog to Rover Rescue immediately
