  • 15 Tactics for Self Defense that Can Save Your Life
have never even been in a street fight How can you teach how to respond to a street fight or violent assailant unless you ve faced these conflicts yourself at some point in the past Or you ve at least received highly specialized training for hand to hand combat for a no holds barred scenario such as an attack by a violent assailant Instructors who have trained repeatedly for no holds barred conflict even though never having been in actual street fight with good training should be conditioned enough to understand the psychology that needs to be included as part of their teaching And so that s probably a good school to consider When looking for a martial arts school here are some questions to ask 1 Do You Teach How to Fight on the Ground Please note that some disciplines known for ground fighting are Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Catch Wrestling and Russian Sambo Judo depending on the instructor might also teach true ground fighting However make sure that the instructor s definition of ground fighting is not takedowns alone some schools teach you how to take people down and avoid being taken down without telling you what to do once you get to the ground Other schools like Israeli Krav Maga advise students to keep the fight standing as much as possible There is simply too much danger for a fight to go the wrong way down on the ground With that said you should know and understand ground fighting and how to get back to your feet quickly and ways to defend against a take down should you be up against a skilled fighter that specializes in taking people to the ground When choosing a self defense school make sure that the school teaches submissions joint locks armbars and chokes from the guard Generally the guard is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu concept that has been adopted by several other disciplines and involves wrapping your legs around an opponent from your back in order to limit their movement on top of you However tactics such as ground fighting submission wrestling and grappling are not advised as a defense strategy against multiple attackers what men are more likely to face rather than women In a fight versus multiple attackers the last thing you want to do is go to the ground to try to use your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu that s when you re likely to be struck from behind have your head stomped on etc 2 Do You also Teach Striking or Stand Up Skills Stand up skills are important to know As said above ground fighting won t do you a bit of good if you re up against multiple attackers whereas a striking art might So look for a school and there are several of them today that teaches a wide variety of skills A fight can end up anywhere and you need to be ready for that 3 Are Classes Co Ed This question is really only for women to ask Yes it seems true that females prefer to learn hand to hand self defense around females However think about this one before deciding After all what are you afraid of an attack from a female or male Unfortunately if you ve never gone up against the strength of a male in training it will be a surprise when the real thing shakes down You may want to limit the surprises you re forced to endure in a real life combat situation 4 Does the Self Defense Ever Get Real Some martial arts schools teach fighting without ever fighting This is rather absurd In reality self defense is about learning how to deal with combat situations If you ve never been hit actually hit someone or grappled with someone the real thing is going to be a shock and quite different regardless of how much technical knowledge you have In other words the martial arts school you go to should periodically have you test your skills in at least semi real situations This will leave you both more ready and confident if a problem occurs Said another way if you go for a month and don t walk out at some point with at least a couple of bruises the training may be lacking 5 Do You Teach How to Fight With Against Weapons There really is no hand to hand defense against a gun Not unless you ve got highly specialized training In these situations it s best for you to use your brain However there are ways to defend against a knife box cutter etc Further there are schools that teach you how to use weapons to defend against attackers 6 Do You Teach Psychological Ploys How to Act What to Say If you re in a situation where an attacker seems intent on stealing from you are there things you can say or ways you can act that might help Further if someone seems intent on raping you should you yell What should you yell When choosing a martial arts school ask if the instructors teach the answers to these questions 7 What is Your Training This is a simple one It is absolutely appropriate to ask what kind of training your instructors have Don t sign any agreements that day Rather go home and research the credentials that person says they have You can even ask for references In sum hand to hand self defense is about being ready The only way to really be ready is to train regularly Further real self defense involves learning aspects of both the striking and grappling arts Anything else is only half an answer at best And if you don t get credit for half answers at school you certainly won t on the street 8 Skills vs Concepts and Tactics Relying solely on skills can cost you your life as Teanis Tillmon of Street Defense Research advises Instead strategic thinking is what can save

  • Israeli Defense Force: How to Survive a Shooting
service tactics This month we have chosen the IDF or Israeli Defense Force This elite group studies trains and prepares for situations such as active shooters for urban situations What can we learn from the IDF Many things particularly those proponents which can save lives in situations that involve threat encounters with fire arms Here are some basic tips that if put into practice can protect you in a real threat situation Tip 1 Know the Attitude of an Attacker Having a survivalist mindset to include learning the attitude of the attacker in an active situation increases your chance of survival by learning to decrease and control your fear Staying calm in any threat situation allows for mental recall of training and preparedness Tip 2 There is No Better Defense than Training Quick planned escape routes spotting easy hiding places turning pieces of equipment or anything you have on hand into a tool or weapon increases your level of survival Survival training can decrease panic anxiety and confusion in a real situation when the threat level has escalated Tip 3 Immediate Priority Get Out of the Line of Fire Safety not heroism is the number one element in avoiding a live situation when rounds of bullets are flying in all directions The truth is there is nothing better than getting out of the line of fire and quickly Tip 4 Firearms Training Prepares You for Safe and Effective Use of a Weapon But engaging in a shooting is very risky business for any person Even the most skilled and proficient law enforcement officers or snipers would prefer never have to engage in a real threat situation The best way to increase survival is to be in a shooting not a shootout If you engage an active shooter let it be as a defender Your ultimate goal is to stop the offender threat as soon as possible Tip 5 Protect Yourself and Others Nearby Protection of yourself and others close around you are key elements in surviving an active shooter situation Active shooters are aggressors looking for human targets Survive with an attitude of fortitude Take cover in an area making oneself a smaller target and look for a window of opportunity to shoot It is not how many bullets you put out but how many you can preserve Additional Tips for Surviving a Shooting Active Shooter Tip 1 Ammo It seems pretty simple but in my experience ammo helps wins gun fights I have worked with armed security officers who have carried the wrong ammo If they were to have gotten into a shoot out there would be casualties other than the bad guy Also I have seen in a shooting of law enforcement who have shot at windows Bad idea I was personally standing next to one Ammo is a key to winning gun fights Tip 2 Never chase and shoot at a suspect The tactical move to gain cover and make yourself as small as a target and

or race results to people in the stands With your bull horn you can speak through the door shouting I have a gun and I ll shoot Leave the house immediately This is your final warning The police have been called My neighbors are being notified Continue to repeat these words What If You Don t Have Neighbors Nearby The main reason that home invaders may flee at the sound of a bull horn is the idea that the neighbors are going to hear also Many will also flee at the realization that the home owner has a gun But what about the more violent brazen robbers who have broken into your home armed with their own firearms confident that they can take the life of any resistance they encounter Though there are a fewer number of truly violent fearless home invaders they are out there they are dangerous Be Prepared for a Gun Fight When one of these violent home invaders encounters your safe room they may try to break down the door even if they know you re inside If you want to be prepared for this kind of home invasion a specialized dead bolt and fortified door frame and a heavy duty door are going to put up a lot more resistance to kicks than a typical bedroom door might As stated above have a heavy piece of furniture that can be slid in front of the door also and lumber that can be used to leverage the furniture against the far wall so it doesn t slide preventing the door from being forced open If you re sure it s not the police coming to your rescue shoot through the door Previous to this wave your family out of sight of the door just in case these home invaders shoot their own weapons through the door at you Move your family to the least likely area of the room for bullets to strike Use a Siren to Scare Away Home Invaders Many bull horns have a siren feature that can be turned on Now your bull horn becomes a loud police like siren once turned on this could fool home invaders into thinking they had triggered a home security system causing the home invaders to flee You can use the siren now as a last resort or consider using it at the first sign that a home invasion is taking place Alternative Strategy Flee Through a Back Window At the first sign of a home invasion shout your family s code word or phrase and run for your family s safe room Once there and the door secure you can consider going out your back window as long as you have a way to easily get to the ground 1 First quiet your family and listen to be sure that home invaders have entered your home and they re not still outside looking for a place to enter Caution They may suspect you re inside the

  • Dog Attacks - How to Survive a Dog Attack
charging you want to spray once you ve brought the dog to a halt so that it can absorb the full brunt of the spray 4 This is also the time that you might want to try that stick you brought However your best bet may not be to simply hit an attacking canine with it though you could try that Rather attempt to shove it down the dog s throat This may cause the canine to choke and give you back your arm If a stick isn t available you might even consider shoving the arm the dog has down its throat depending on your situation as it could possibly have the same effect 5 If none of the above work then you re running out of options beyond trying to truly beat the dog at its own game in other words no pun intended you re about to embark in a dogfight Along with this strikes to the eyes it s time to get mean or the throat may be in order 6 If that doesn t work you could even try grabbing one of the dog s hind legs according to George Donahue at FightingArts com and ripping up thus putting the dog on its back in a submissive position This could allow you to drag it Remember though that such a movement may put you at risk for ending up on the ground a bad thing as it leaves your neck and other vital areas open to the dog So proceed with care 7 Of course this is all assuming that you don t have a gun on you Still you would only use such weaponry as a last resort even if one of these SecretsofSurvival com scenarios did play out Remember that most dogs act angrily only when they feel that you are threatening them or their family Thus the above steps could very well work before resorting to such tactics But that doesn t necessarily mean they will In the end dog attacks can be vicious and bloody In fact they can be deadly Along with this being prepared can mean the difference between life and death As with any survival scenario you should choose life and be ready Other Weapons to Consider in a Dog Attack Pitchfork A pitchfork is dangerous to attacking dogs They have been used successfully to kill attacking dogs including pit bulls in the past by farmers and families alike Pitchforks are designed for bailing hay But the multiple sharpened spear points are a dangerous weapon against attacking dogs Baseball bat A baseball bat especially an aluminum bat is a great weapon against an attacking dog you just have to have the eye hand coordination to swing and connect as it s rushing at you with it s teeth bared Sometimes standing in front of a dangerous dog with a bat or club raised high can be enough to make it leave you alone if the dog has previously learned to fear a club or threatening arm Most dogs may turn tail after taking a baseball bat to the head or shoulders But in the case of a very angry large dangerous dog one swing may only stun it temporarily Be ready to swing again hard and furiously Use footwork to step back and then step laterally and step forward again after each swing hits That way you re never in the same place and by using footwork from boxing martial arts etc you make it a bit harder for the dog to find anything to bite into after it s been hit hit the dog again and again until it finally flees or is out for the count Survival knife If you re traveling through an area following a catastrophic disaster realize that dangerous dogs may be loose especially in a post apocalypse scenario As said above if a dog threatens you wrap an arm weak arm with heavy cloth like a professional security dog trainer so that if the dog charges you can give it an arm to bite into leaving your strong arm free to strike back You should have some kind of knife handy for self defense again this is a collapse we re talking about here and for this situation a survival knife is the best weapon sheathed to your side remember you need to be able to get to it in a hurry What if you only have a smaller knife If a dangerous dog attacks give it your cloth wrapped forearm as it sinks it s teeth in stab repeatedly and viciously with your other arm just under it s front leg or above the top of it s shoulder through it s shoulder blades and hopefully you ll reach an organ This dog doesn t have a chance keep stabbing and don t let go of the knife But be warned a large survival knife is a better weapon for an attacking dog Just one deep stab can rip apart an attacking dogs flesh and muscle possibly piercing multiple organs and if you twist the knife handle the blade will twist inside the dog causing the dog excruciating pain this dog is down for the count You just won the fight with your first strike and possibly saved your life Taken to the Ground by an Attack Dog Ok so the worst case scenario has happened and a dangerous dog has taken you to the ground Your first instinct should be to protect your throat and back of your neck by covering your head in your hands With your head covered in your hands roll your entire body fast rolling on the ground is an easy movement for people throw yourself to the ground and try it sometime at the same time rolling a forearm toward it s mouth If a dog is going to bite anything let it bite your forearm that is better than a dog biting your throat

those demonstrated in the UFC and other sport combat programs These competitions match skilled fighters against each other for prize money and fame It is glorified with product endorsements pretty girls and lots of Hollywood razzle dazzle People seem to enjoy the spectacle We need to remember that it is a sport with competitive athletes who train very hard and agree to fight each other under controlled conditions with rules and codes of conduct Three of the things that designate a sport oriented martial art are the 3 r s rules referee and a ring Military Special Forces Reality Based Martial Arts Reality Based martial arts are about real life situations and protecting yourself and loved ones from a true threat This could be an intoxicated tough guy approaching you to ask threateningly for money or a seriously deranged person with a gun wanting your money or your life Reality martial arts are not concerned about origin culture or anything of the sort nor are they concerned with rules or looking good to spectators Military Based Training Systems With Reality martial arts the primary focus is on survival and winning in a violent confrontation Examples of reality martial arts are Israeli Krav Maga Russian Systema and other military based training systems There are also several that have been developed by military and law enforcement personnel The primary focus is on empowering people with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in conflict and win in a violent confrontation One important thing to remember is that training is specific You will do what you train to do In a violent confrontation our fight or flight response kicks in We experience altered perceptions such as tunnel vision auditory exclusion and loss of fine motor skills Adrenaline surges into our body to support our survival organ function changes blood goes to the big muscles we have difficulty doing fine motor things like manipulating a pen or even tying our shoes Overcoming Fear Fear comes up and messes with our ability to think fast and if we are not trained properly we may freeze up instead of fight or flee Self defense or reality based training is much more than just learning the physical skills The mental and emotional aspects are far more important Creating a win attitude a survive at all cost mentality takes commitment and a change in how most people think The street is a far more dangerous place than the ring or a martial arts tournament A controlled sporting competition is safe compared to a dark alley with 3 or 4 thugs demanding your wallet or your life A fight is an agreement between two individuals to partake in action to discover who will win It is usually far from a life and death situation No rules no holds barred life or death In reality martial arts there are no rules no agreements we do not fight with people We don t train in air conditioned gyms with 2 inch

  • Reality Martial Arts: Striking and Self Defense to Bring Down Attackers
do with their time They spend a lot of time in tactical training OK now that that s out of the way let s get back to some serious discussion on self defense Self Defense Self defense is kind of like emergency planning and survival It can be separated out into four phases mitigation preparation response and recovery Mitigation Mitigation is everything you do to lessen the likelihood of disaster striking In self defense it includes Becoming aware of high crime areas in your community Knowing your environment avenues of escape weapons of opportunity where the closest safe place is Not placing yourself in danger unnecessarily by going into unknown neighborhoods or responding to unwanted verbal insults Anything you can do before an event that will decrease the possibilities of something unwanted occurring Preparation Preparation is planning training getting supplies buying guns whatever you feel necessary to deal with disaster Yes being in a physical confrontation where your life and health are at stake can be classified as a disaster albeit a personal one Reality Based Self Defense Take a reality based self defense class I don t mean a weekend workshop with Master Ken I mean take a class that is ongoing and is based on reality self defense not sport or traditional martial arts Learn how to use a firearm get your concealed carry permit Stock up on supplies batons pepper spray good flashlight knife etc One article I read recently described the 4 firearms the author felt were a part of any good survival kit handgun 22 rifle shotgun assault rifle I tend to agree with him Remember to get lots of ammo and be well trained with every piece of equipment you purchase Learning how to use something in an emergency really doesn t work very well Take a First Aid class and have a first aid kit in your vehicle and at home so you can stop the bleeding if you or someone else gets injured If you carry weapons like a knife of a firearm make sure you can treat the injuries that can be created by them A trauma bandage stop clot or something similar will do the trick Response Response is just as it says OK so you tried to avoid the confrontation you did everything described above but here you are The guy is big mean and for some reason he doesn t like you very much He is yelling at you and saying something about ripping your head off and other very unpleasant things First respone Flight RUN Flee escape get out of there Best self defense technique in the world feet flying in the other direction I know you want more We are going to talk about this a lot in future articles it really cannot be examined in this one But here are a few good points Tactical Advantage Always have tactical advantage Never let yourself be backed into a corner Have superior numbers weapons or position Don

  • Combat Sambo for Self Defense - Russian Commando Beat Down
not necessary to dedicate your life to a martial art Just some period of it Why waste your time Life is not for martial arts Train to Fight in Typical Clothing Not in Gym Gear Q So is it more reasonable to learn combat sambo where you have that all instead of learning boxing and then freestyle wrestling which can cause a mess in your head and in your moves A All other conditions being equal yes but people are different and the given mix is that it also can be good for somebody A person might learn boxing and freestyle wrestling and he would be alright But freestyle wrestlers don t wrestle in clothes and we think that you should know how to wrestle with jackets kurtkas and without as well All participants of street conflicts usually wear clothes a street is not a beach or a sauna According to the climate conditions we don t wear waistcloths And military people of all countries of the world also wear regular clothes Criminals wear clothes as well There are fights with jackets and without in combat sambo We experience all combinations And we take part in different MMA competitions with different rules and gear That s how the universality appears I was talking about Wrestling in jackets is more close to the hand to hand combat part of combat sambo and submission holds differ a little bit when you wrestle in a jacket It also helps when throwing And it looks spectacular When your opponent in a bout has no jacket on him and he is sweaty your hold can go loose When you are a universal fighter you fear nothing Fedor Emelianenko can fight in both situations and strikes throws holds everything is on a high level This is our role model a universal fighter Q What recommendation would you give to a person who has never wrestled and is not going to concerning ground fighting Any hand to hand combat solutions against a wrestler A Basics of hand to hand combat are submission holds and chokeholds Partially they are needed there for broadening of your outlook at least to know how to defend yourself against them The more different techniques you know it s better for your fighting experience and education Of course it doesn t mean you should try to know all the techniques in the world For example a fighter nowadays should know punches kicks throws chokes holds even if he will use only part of it These techniques are common knowledge nowadays Sport combat is not necessary to learn for this situation the hand to hand combat part is the main thing to learn It is unlikely you encounter a world champion who is an experienced ground fighter on a street Take Down Defense If we are talking about a usual self defense a person just shouldn t let this happen It means that you shouldn t let fighting and wrestling on the ground happen You shouldn t allow your opponent to take you down so practice take down defense Why would you bring it to the ground Your actions ought to be based upon the applied training if your opponent reached out his hand to do a hold you need to get out of the attack line instantly and go on It s not like it will be impossible for him to take you down but that would be much more difficult to do if you apply take down defense Attack Line The attack line is created by linear movement between you and your opponent and allows your opponent to attack more effectively See lines of attack It s a general principle of all martial arts It s biomechanics a vector When your opponent moves towards you it s like he is moving along a line aiming at you When faced with an aggressor stay slightly to one side of the attack line move back and forth across the attack line or employ circular motion to thwart his attack If you have the opportunity to initiate the move and use your momentum to knock your opponent off balance try to stay on the attack line in order to focus your power in the direction of your attack This does not mean that you have to operate along your opponent s centerline only that you should move linearly and in the direction of power Read more here In this pic the master got out of the attack line and counter attacked his student view photo Stay Upright Your Center of Gravity Shouldn t Extend Beyond Your Support Base One of the structural principles of the combat sambo system is maintenance of balance Our center of gravity shouldn t go beyond the area of the base of support It s not advisable even to take an unnecessary step Low stance is possible in sport combat you can stride you can slightly waltz in you can rely on something But when in hand to hand combat you should move only up and down Up and Down movement Typically when people throw somebody they incline bow but you cannot do this in a street fight because you can fall If you fall in sports it s OK but if you fall on a street against an experienced fighter or multiple attackers it can have bad results for you So you shouldn t incline just squat and stand up with a straight back I attached two pics from my book examples of inclining and straight back It s like weight lifting to do it right you shouldn t lift it with your back You should come to a weight squat with a straight back take a weight and stand up with the same straight back no inclining just up and down Throwing is the same as weight lifting the difference is in a weight See http images ddccdn com cg images en1305395 jpg and http www the pillow com au resources how to lift php What do you see at these links Only up and down movement The tasks of throwing and lifting are different but biomechanics are the same In sports like wrestling they are inclined but in a street fight you should have a straight back not like sportsmen in this pictured at this link Choose your stance as an attack takes place without half formed intentions no matter who your aggressor is By getting out of the attack line we anticipate the further actions of an opponent he s just reached out his hand and I ve got it out already and now I am alongside of him Why wait for an opponent to grab you and start beating you You need to cut it off at once Cut it off It s an expression which helps a reader or a student to understand It s like a fighter has an axe or a sword instead of his arms and when his opponent s trying to get him he cuts off the opponent s hands or something Q Are there any techniques for ground fighting in the hand to hand combat part of combat sambo A Yes there are A person might fall or slip He should know how to escape blows For example somebody s trying to kick me I am rotating like a log grasping his foot and the opponent rolls over me Here s a video demonstration from 1 00 the time on the video this one from 22 50 It s necessary to know all such techniques but of course you shouldn t aim for falling and being hit from all sides Q A frequent situation on a street two men are fighting and then they fall down in a clinch What do you do in such a situation A In this situation it s better to have some wrestling skills At least defensive skills in ground fighting to minimize the potential damage That s why we try not to separate the hand to hand combat part and sport combat aspect of combat sambo On some level at least This means that a combat system cannot be divided into two or more parts it should be a happy medium it should be one unit a universal one Knife and Stick Fighting I start my courses with teaching the hand to hand combat part knife and stick fighting elements so that my students would understand there s one principle for any situation it doesn t matter if an opponent has a knife in his hand or a stick or maybe it s just his fist It s all the same a knife a stick a gun and bare hands Then it s easier for them to learn because they don t need to remember what particular action he should take in a particular situation And we get out of the attack line in the same way in any situation Q What qualities physical and personal should a person have to win a street fight A You ve got to go through the applied psychological training so not to be frightened but to anticipate the further actions of aggressors It s perfect when an opponent only takes his knife out and you act instantly wait for nothing Don t think about what s taking place that gives time for fear to take hold That s what we should train to do everything so that it s instinctive while at the same time understanding the rational techniques of our combat system Q Should one develop physical strength preparing for self defense or will specific muscles make a person less flexible thus slowing down punches A We need to develop everything but wisely At first students learn the hand to hand combat part the principles and only after that they are taught sports elements We do not put stress on weight lifting but it s possible My method differs from many masters approach for example when they instruct students on stretching Stretching In oriental martial arts masters first stretch their students like this preparing their physical qualities but it s a long process If we are talking about self defense in a combat system it should be easy and fast to learn In oriental martial arts though it is often slow and tedious instruction and may start with teaching in stretching telling them that later they would be taught some secret super techniques In Combat Sambo Hand to Hand Combat Techniques Taught from Very Beginning I consider that a master should teach hand to hand combat techniques since the very beginning because your student can be attacked tomorrow So he should get some knowledge how to defend himself at least in a week s time And later he can go to the national team if he trains as a professional and meets the requirements So the sport combat part of sambo is a second priority not the first one I came to this conclusion on the basis of many years experiencing coaching What s the use of the first weeks of oriental martial arts if in a week s time a person can be put to death or seriously hurt Should he learn to stretch so he s flexible when he loses his life in a fight that week Or should he first learn ground fighting We must give a student what he needs and at once Also we shouldn t forget the pedagogics Pedagogics It means that a coach should also give his students moral values not only techniques A coach should know all the training methods in the world special forces training if a coach is engaged and high performance sports as well A sportsman doesn t need to know all of that He can even not have enough time especially if he s a student of some university But a coach must know both know how to demonstrate both and how to teach This is the difference between a sportsman and a coach Q In videos on oriental martial arts masters always show defense against a frontal assault it s like aggressors attack you only from the front so you can see an aggressor Or maybe an aggressor comes to you and puts his hand on your shoulder thus giving you a good chance to break his hand in a cool way like in a movie However a real assault is more like killing a sentry it s sudden made from the back maybe with weapons Any comments on this A By the way there are sentry killing techniques in combat sambo as well The whole part is dedicated to it And I should say that frequently students are taught a bunch of unnecessary techniques I guess our method based on principles is more rational What s the benefit A fighter uses the principles not some separate techniques The first one is a principle of natural moves that everyone has Moves are simple if you understand the essence We don t calculate the trajectory we use to move a spoon to the mouth at the dinner do we And no master teaches us how to move our hands when we need to wash our face So moves should be simple not complicated The principle of maintenance of balance it s clear as well Our technique is based on that Shouldn t be any inclines of your body when throwing like in sport combat Only up and down and you keep your balance Why bending forward isn t a good form in combat sambo Bending forward makes you unstable and a street fight is greatly different from sport combat In sports it s not a big deal if you fall however on a street your opponent s buddies will finish you off if you fall down kicking you and stomping on your head so you should maintain your balance to be stable You cannot fall Second when inclined it prevents you from looking around and again your opponent s friends can come up to you from behind In sport combat you have only one opponent and nobody wants to hurt you badly In a street fight there are usually two or more opponents and they ll do everything to hurt you The price is too high you cannot risk with an inclined stance So stand up right with a low center of gravity in your hips and keep an eye on your surroundings to insure yourself Combat Sambo Counter strike an Aggressor The principles of getting out of the attack line a knife a stick a gun a punch You get out of the way instantly and find yourself behind his back or alongside By moving to a strategic spot you ve just given yourself a great advantage You don t even need to remember what to do The funny thing is that your opponent suggests what you should do by his actions If you are as tall as he is or taller you cut off his head Cut off his head It s also an expression partially emotional It help a student to feel what he should do it means you should strike his head as heavy as you can Imagine like you have a sword and you cut his head off If he is taller you strike the groin by an invisible move A move your opponent can t see so it is invisible for him it s a sudden and quick move getting out of the attack line simultaneously That is not a frontal attack it s a flank one So after that your opponent bows which makes him a short person suddenly and essentially he s telling you Strike here strike my head So you strike him with the sharp of the hand or some other way Then you twist his head or dig his head into the ground Done The attacker told you what to do this is our method concerning self defense You don t need to remember what and where you learned it You just need to know the basics What about submission holds which they show in TV programs when one partner puts his hand on another person s shoulder and the second partner starts to lock his wrist I wouldn t say I like them These techniques are good for a single combat or when you have a task to seize somebody I like faster techniques Q Also such TV programs might make a false stereotype about a street assault it s like when somebody comes up to you asking for a smoke or asking what street you live on thus giving you time to look about prepare for a fight But a street assault is usually unexpected Are those TV programs correct A They are not Actually force structures police SWAT national security defense and law enforcement agencies should train their actions for a sudden aggression because life would force them Q So do techniques and tactics rely upon practical experience A Sure Life will force you And if you don t follow you ll lose Any real combat system based on karate boxing whatever even aikido will come to the sudden assault response mental training A fighter must react instantly and his further actions are determined by his style if he is a boxer then it will be a series of punches It s better to avoid a frontal attack and to get out of the attack line and become invisible to an opponent In his turn the opponent would be like a static target a dummy That would be the most rational tactics no matter what style is used boxing karate taekwondo Instead of taking a stance and starting a boxing match on a street Or wrestling like you are on tatami on a street as well Sometimes people start to fight on a street like they would fight on a ring

and lock the doors and for everyone to get out of sight If you re out on the street and in a traffic killzone one that is blocked on opposite sides from one traffic light to another for example where terrorists are executing pedestrians and people trapped inside the cordoned off area you may have a couple options 1 One is to jump into the back seat of your car and lay down flat on the floorboards first throw open the driver s side door so it looks like you fled the vehicle if you have clothes bags or papers pull them down on top of you hopefully a gunman s quick glance into the back seat of the car won t notice you 2 Or flee the car and throw yourself to the pavement and belly crawl quickly to the middle spaces between lines of traffic again as long as traffic is blocked and not moving Pay attention to the sounds of gunfire and crawl in the opposite direction quickly get out of that middle lane as in the middle lane between cars you re visible to any gunman standing in traffic instead crawl between cars and work your way to the other side of the street As you re crawling you can consider rolling underneath a truck or SUV something that has enough space for you to slide underneath Keep an eye on the cars ahead of you though watch to see if gunman are looking under cars and shooting people It s possible they re prepared for the way citizens are likely to react in an attack like this especially if their specific assignment is to seize a city block and execute everyone inside Resist the urge to play dead unless you have no other option and unless you ve been shot and lots of blood is visible It s possible that gunmen will put bullets into people who look like they re playing dead especially if they re trained for this scenario There is a way to play dead but it s extreme find a person who s dead very bloody using your hands scoop blood on to your neck head torso just like putting on fake blood for a Halloween party except this isn t a party This is life or death Once you re fully coated in blood then consider playing dead 3 Let s assume that you fled from your car crawled and weaved your way through stopped cars At this point Listen carefully if your ears don t alert you to the sound of an approaching gunman peak around the side of a car and look to see if you can locate where one or more are positioned be careful that you re not spotted Look for an escape path It s possible you can run for a nearby shop or office building and enter hoping to find a back door it s also possible that frightened shop owners have already locked their doors having been prepared for a situation like this if the lights are off in the shop there s a good chance that door is locked Finally to be prepared for a situation like this always carry a heavy crow bar in your vehicle one you can keep under the seat Hopefully you grabbed it before you fled from your car Use it to break your way through a door or store window if all doors are locked If you ve got a bit of killer instinct consider finding a place to hide next to a vehicle Keep that crow bar ready to use as a weapon From underneath cars look for the feet of an approaching gunman Time his approach stay low and sneak around a vehicle coming up behind him Use that crow bar to knock him senseless Run If you ve got military or law enforcement training and can shoot a fully automatic weapon and also have the instinct to put up a fight Carry a Gun and Know How to Shoot a Fully Automatic Rifle Whether you simply commute through downtown or if you work downtown carry a handgun and extra ammunition Carry body armor also that you can keep in your car or even in your office if you have the money keep body armor in both locations One great way to survive a terrorist attack is to simply be prepared for it To civilians this may sound extreme But to people in SWAT or Special Forces overseas it s just another day at the office Realize that the days ahead in America may become a lot more dangerous and lot more violent as several countries like Syria and Egypt in recent months already
