tension between his father and uncle for reasons yet to be revealed And we get a glimpse of some of Morales new abilities which are not what you d expect This decompressed approach which Bendis is known for works here It gives us enough to stay hooked but doesn t give the game away It features Morales front and center and gives us the cause of his powers although I have an issue with that revelation that bit seemed a bit too contrived for my tastes Just how often are young men bitten by spiders and given powers One would be fine for suspension of disbelief but two And that spider made like a hobo on a train to get to Morales Naaaahh but I ll forgive it It s typical Bendis and while I wouldn t say he is my favourite comic book writer Bendis is often entertaining and knows how to spin a good story He does it again here and it s frankly fun and refreshing I really enjoyed Pichelli s artwork It s dynamic she draws a good menacing face in Osborne and her characters vividly come to life I love her art in this series and I hope she will stick around for a while Justin Ponsor s colors also deserve praise as their richness provides a unique feel to the issue Again hopefully this dynamic team will remain together And I have to say I love the new Spider Man costume To bits I think the concern people had with Morales being too young sort of misses the point While reading this issue I thought back to when I was 13 and couldn t help but ask myself what would I have done in the same circumstances There s a certain nostalgic escapism that comes with having a protagonist being so young and works for both teens someone they can possible relate too and adults wistfully thinking back to those years and indulging in those escapist fantasies of youth Ultimate Comics Spider Man is a fun read and while clearly the perfect jumping on point for people new to Spider Man should be given a chance by old ones This is the start of a whole new journey and it looks to be an interesting one Line Break By Julio Angel Ortiz Julio Angel Ortiz maintains his collection of curiosities at www julioinprogress com You can also Like him on Facebook as well and check out his latest writing projects Share Ultimate Comics Spider Man 1 Tags Comics Marvel Spider Man Ultimate Comics Comments are closed RECENT POPULAR TAGS Saga Django Unchained Disney and Lucasfilm Dracula vs Robin Hood vs Jekyll and Hyde 1 2 Star Trek Titan Fallen Gods Ted The Dark Knight Rises UK comics round up Nelson The Scarifyers Quick Doctor Who poll Doctor Who The post Big Bang survival kit Print s Not Dead World of Fancraft The Shiny Shelf Alternative Xmas Gift Guide Fringe 2 16 Peter Ashes to

Neanderthal in a Captain America outfit that does not jive with other superior interpretations of the character Frank Simpson the Vietnam era Captain America is another problem Let s put aside the idea of the government attempting to foster another Captain America replacement has not only already been done told to better effect in Ultimate Comics Avengers Next Generation and that they apparently did not learn their lesson in that debacle again see the aforementioned story Simpson is just a very one note character He exists as a cipher for the writer to espouse all of the rhetoric I outlined above Strip away Simpson s criticism of what America has become and there is very little that we know or care about in him That is not to say that his criticisms are invalid I don t feel that for the most they are or effective the scene with Simpson waterboarding Captain America is chilling and blunt but while reading through these scenes I feel there was a subtlety missing that makes it feel like I m being hit on the head with Here s what s been wrong with America In trying hard and Aaron does to convey that message he loses the story which is a shame Ron Garney s artwork fits the source material Garney s artwork is muddy in spots heavy on the grit and is a great compliment to Aaron s script Ultimate Comics Captain America is a mixed bag It definitely has action some humor and doesn t hold back on its agenda It s probably a story that needed to have been told but bends Rogers characterization to serve it and that s where it fails Gone is the likable strong character and in its place is a 2 D macho tough guy Hopefully if they do another Ultimate Captain America series he ll be better served there Line Break By Julio Angel Ortiz Julio Angel Ortiz maintains his collection of curiosities at www julioinprogress com You can also Like him on Facebook as well and check out his latest writing projects Share Ultimate Comics Captain America Tags Captain America Comics Jason Aaron Marvel Ron Garney Ultimate Comics One Response Vox Bomb 9 16 2011 MTV Virus Alien Jersey Shore and More Julio In Progress says September 16 2011 at 5 14 pm Ultimate Comics Captain America RECENT POPULAR TAGS Saga Django Unchained Disney and Lucasfilm Dracula vs Robin Hood vs Jekyll and Hyde 1 2 Star Trek Titan Fallen Gods Ted The Dark Knight Rises UK comics round up Nelson The Scarifyers Quick Doctor Who poll Doctor Who The post Big Bang survival kit Print s Not Dead World of Fancraft The Shiny Shelf Alternative Xmas Gift Guide Fringe 2 16 Peter Ashes to Ashes Advent Calendar Alan Moore Angel Batman BBC BBC One BBC Three BBC Two BFI Billie Piper Books Brian Michael Bendis Buffy Channel 4 Chris Carter Christopher Eccleston Comedy Comics David Tennant DC Doctor Who Documentary DVD Enterprise

Plenty of mysteries are masterfully set up such as who are the people in the opening sequence with the domed building what s with explosion in Uruguay using you know who s tech and what s the situation in Bangkok and Hickman leaves us on a perfect note hanging for the next issue There s a pace here that I really enjoyed having never read anything by Hickman but having heard good things I was impressed Ribic s artwork is solid continuing the realistic trend in comics and complementing Hickman s script Ribic gives the book a cinematic feel exactly what I love about comics it has the advantages of prose fiction and cinema with unlimited budget Ribic brings through in his work The majestic poses of the British super soldiers in flight the floating Asgardian city the beings from inside the dome attacking Ribic brings it all to life in convincing fashion There is a fluidity in his artwork that I enjoy and I hope he will be staying on the series for a long time to come Ultimate Comics The Ultimates 1 is a wonderful starting point for the new Ultimate Comics relaunch and if you have never read anything before in the range this is a great place to start Hickman and company start off the series on a high note and I look forward to seeing where it goes Line Break By Julio Angel Ortiz Julio Angel Ortiz maintains his collection of curiosities at www julioinprogress com You can also Like him on Facebook as well and check out his latest writing projects Share Ultimate Comics The Ultimates 1 Tags Comics Essad Ribic Jonathan Hickman Marvel The Ultimates Ultimate Comics One Response It Came From Another Article Roundup 9 9 2011 Julio In Progress says September 9 2011 at 10 07 pm Ultimate Comics The Ultimates 1 RECENT POPULAR TAGS Saga Django Unchained Disney and Lucasfilm Dracula vs Robin Hood vs Jekyll and Hyde 1 2 Star Trek Titan Fallen Gods Ted The Dark Knight Rises UK comics round up Nelson The Scarifyers Quick Doctor Who poll Doctor Who The post Big Bang survival kit Print s Not Dead World of Fancraft The Shiny Shelf Alternative Xmas Gift Guide Fringe 2 16 Peter Ashes to Ashes Advent Calendar Alan Moore Angel Batman BBC BBC One BBC Three BBC Two BFI Billie Piper Books Brian Michael Bendis Buffy Channel 4 Chris Carter Christopher Eccleston Comedy Comics David Tennant DC Doctor Who Documentary DVD Enterprise Fifth Geoff Johns George Lucas Grant Morrison Horror ITV JJ Abrams Joss Whedon London Film Festival Marvel Movies Russell T Davies Spider Man Star Trek Star Wars Superman The X Files TV Vampires X Men Zombies Comics Read Younger Looking Flesh our first webcomic Tags Advent Calendar Alan Moore Angel Batman BBC BBC One BBC Three BBC Two BFI Billie Piper Books Brian Michael Bendis Buffy Channel 4 Chris Carter Christopher Eccleston Comedy Comics David Tennant DC Doctor Who Documentary DVD Enterprise Fifth
