  • ShopSite SC 4.3 Installation Instructions
    of Shopping Cart CGIs such as http www xyz com cgi bin sc html shopsite images StoreName HTML Output Directory aliased to Store Front URL defined in store auth file Store pages media you may need FTP access Store images data StoreName Data Directory Run the Install Program Once you have downloaded the compressed installation program you can easily install ShopSite using just your browser Use an FTP client to connect to shopsite com Log in using the username and password that were given to you for downloading the ShopSite software Navigate to the directory for your server platform Use a binary mode transfer to download the zip file for your ShopSite version and platform For example the file for ShopSite SC running on Solaris Sparc servers is named shopsite sc solaris sparc zip Put the file in the directory from which you will run the install This must be a directory where CGI programs can execute and write If there is a patch directory in the operating system directory cd to it Download all of its contents to the install directory on your server If there are patches you will install them after completing the regular installation If you are going to install a non English language pack download that file now You must use a different FTP username and password to access the language packs Unzip the install file Copy the store auth file into the directory containing the install files Set permissions on the files and the directory and in your Web server so that you can execute the wwwinstall cgi and info cgi programs from your Web browser Point your browser to the wwwinstall cgi file in the installation directory On the first screen click Install a Store On the next screen enter values in the various fields and click OK You must fill in all of the fields or the installation program will not work The installation program begins installing ShopSite and shows you the results of the install If there were any errors change the appropriate fields and click the OK button again If you downloaded any patch files install them now Patches are usually a newer version of a cgi file that was originally installed as part of ShopSite so each patch will have the same name as an existing file on your server Locate the existing file in the ShopSite directories and make a copy of it or back it up to some other location Copy the patch file over the existing file Repeat the last two steps for each patch file that you downloaded Configure the Web Server Configure the Web server to recognize the new directories Alias the ShopSite URL to point to the ShopSite Directory Alias the Shopping Cart URL to point to the Shopping Cart Directory ShopSite requires Apache style passwords using htaccess files If you are using a Netscape server you can configure it to use htaccess files by following the instructions at the Netscape site Build

    may not include those links in the tar file SERVER LOG PATH Full path name to the directory where server logs are stored SERVER LOG NAME File name of the server log file Double check the values that you set and then save and close the file Make a copy of the config mall aa file as a security measure against the file being overwritten or erased Run the start install mall sc Script The start install mall sc script performs initial configuration of the ShopSite software Make sure that the UNIX WEB USER ID and UNIX WEB GROUP ID are set as owner and group of the SHOPSITE DIRECTORY and SHOPPING CART DIRECTORY Log in or su to the UNIX WEB USER ID account Verify that your csp id file is in the same directory as the start install mall sc ksh script Run the script start install mall sc ksh config mall aa Note All the scripts are designed to run under a KornShell ksh If your server does not have ksh installed you may need to edit the scripts to run under a different shell If you have problems running the scripts try typing a before the script name for example start install cgi instead of start install cgi Check the log file for errors If you left the LOG DEBUG variable set to YES then the install script created a log file in the DEBUG LOG DIRECTORY The default name for the file is debug log Examine this file to ensure that there are no FAILED messages If you find any of these messages correct the problem most likely a file permission problem and rerun the script Configure the Web Server Configure the Web server to recognize the new directories Alias the SHOPSITE URL to point to the SHOPSITE DIRECTORY Alias the SHOPPING CART URL to point to the SHOPPING CART DIRECTORY Store Initialization The config store aa file and the start install store sc ksh script are provided as examples of how to call the underlying script that creates and initializes stores which is install store sc ksh These scripts accept command line parameters such as those passed by the start install store sc ksh script You can customize the example script to suit your needs or create your own script You may choose to configure your server such that once a seller requests a store by filling out an online form the store will be created with no operator intervention required Edit the config store aa File The start install store sc script reads the settings in the config store aa file and creates the data and HTML directories for a new store and performs other configuration on the content server You can either edit the config file each time you need to create a store to set the values for that particular store or configure the script to accept command line variables These instructions show you which variables to set Open the config

    Page The Banner Ads button in the Merchandising section of ShopSite opens a page that briefly discusses using banner advertising and has a few links to companies that provide that service You can have this button lead to your own page about banner ads by editing the global aa file and setting the banner ad link value to the full URL of the destination page Customize the Search Engines Page The Search Engines button in the Merchandising section of ShopSite opens a page that briefly discusses search engines and has a few links to sites that help merchants register with search engines You can have this button lead to your own page about search engines by editing the global aa file and setting the search engine link value to the full URL of the destination page Change Customer Receipts to Link to Your Own Marketplace When a customer in any store in your mall concludes a purchase they will see a receipt page in their browser At the top of the receipt are two buttons one for returning to the store and another to go to the marketplace By default the marketplace link points to the ShopSite marketplace at Open Market You can change the link and graphic to point to your own mall Edit the global aa file and change the marketplace value to point at your own mall and graphic Change the text on the Next Step page When a new seller completes the store setup wizard he is presented with a Next Step page that offers congratulations and gives a few bits of advice including who he can contact for help You can customize this information by editing the isp aa file in the SHOPSITE DIRECTORY nls language directory Replace the standard graphics with your own You can replace almost all of the graphics seen by sellers when they are configuring and administering their stores including buttons and logos Note that you cannot replace the ShopSite copyright notice and logo in the lower right part of the screen All of the image files are in the shopsite images directory that you defined during installation If you replace any images the new images must have the same file names and be the same dimensions as the original images Change the List of Available Colors You can change the list of colors available to each store by editing the pagepalette dat file located in the store s data directory You can add or remove any color that you want in the pull down list that the seller sees Just be sure the hex number has a symbol in front of it e g FFE4C0 This does not allow you to directly enter hex color values from ShopSite you must still use the pull down list If you remove colors then certain Themes will not be available Customize the Order Form ShopSite TX only Once a store is initialized on the content server you can customize the order form screens

    some built in benefits and you can offer additional enticements ShopSite will automatically store shipping addresses used by registered customers and they can easily select any of those addresses on future orders to save time Additionally customers can select to have ShopSite remember their payment methods credit card type and number so that they don t have to enter that information on each order ShopSite also keeps a record of a customer s orders and the customer can view previous orders at any time As the merchant you can entice customers to register by offering them coupon discounts When you assign a registered customer to a group and add one or more coupons to that group the customers in that group will automatically get those coupons put into their cart each time they sign in How do I find a particular registered customer s information The main Customer Registration screen includes search controls that you can use to find one or more registered customers which can really be helpful when you have thousands of registered customers Simply set the search parameters such as Last name is smith and click the Search button If you want your search results to be displayed as move in and out of the main Customer Registration screen check the Remember Search box If you do not check the box your search results will not be displayed when you return to the main Customer Registration screen How do I put registered customers into groups There are two ways to put registered customers into groups First all customers are automatically put into the default group when they register at your store you can see which group is the default group Second you can manually assign customers to a group To specify the default group for newly registered customers go to the main Customer Registration screen and click Groups Click on the name of the group that you want to become the default and click the Default button To manually assign customers to a group start at the main Customer Registration screen You can either click the List All button to see all registered customers or set some search parameters and click the Search button to see a subset of customers Once you have the list that you want select the customers that you want to assign to a specific group you can select more than one by holding down the Ctrl key while you click Next click the Assign to Group button The Assign to Group screen displays a list of the customers that you selected including which groups they are currently assigned to Select a group from the drop down list then click Save to assign the customers to the new group How do I assign unassign coupons to a group You can assign coupons to a group to entice customers to register at your store or return to shop For example you could run a registration special and offer customers 5 off all purchases until
