  • Adding Columns to Search Results
displaying page links with the search results By following these steps you can have your store display the search results in neat columns Go to Merchandising Custom Templates Advanced and make a copy of the search default search template Locate the following within that template VAR pa search result false LOOP SEARCH IF SEARCHLINK tr td td td align left valign top b END IF SEARCHRESULT IF SEARCHLINK b td td td td td tr END IF VAR pa search result true END LOOP SEARCH Replace the code above with the following code VAR pa search result false LOOP SEARCH 8 IF SEARCHLINK END IF td valign top SEARCHRESULT td IF SEARCHLINK END IF VAR pa search result true END LOOP SEARCH Within the LOOP SEARCH tag add twice the number of columns that you want For example if you would like 4 columns your tag would be LOOP SEARCH 8 Go to Products Edit Product Info and for the Search Destination option select anything except Store The reason to do this is because the search product results and search link results are both still being looped on the search results screen So if you have a product assigned to 5 pages the product result will show up on the search results screen as well as the 5 page links that the product is assigned on This will take up 5 of the cells for that row on the search results screen If you change the search destination to made or more info then you will only have one page link per product and you can take this into account when setting up the LOOP SEARCH feature in your search results template You will want to change the Search Destination for all products Note you can change this setting globally

  • Pages with Products Displayed In Categories
have three categories at the max DVDs BluRays and CDs Since I will have a max of 3 categories of products I will go to Preferences Extra Fields and make sure that I am displaying at least three extra page fields You now need to add this functionality to your custom template I would suggest having two copies of your page template one copy for regular category pages which list all products and one copy for pages which divide products into categories In the copy that you have which will divide products into categories you can add the code below in place of LOOP PRODUCT tags IF PAGE Field1 VAR Type PAGE Field1 VAR ColumnCount 0 VAR Type LOOP PRODUCTS PRODUCT Generic Category END LOOP PRODUCTS END IF Now you will want to repeat this code to match the maximum number of categories that you will have So for my example I have a max of three categories so I will want to repeat this section of code 3 times on my page Each time you repeat the code from above in your template you will want to change the field number to a new field number I am going to use three page fields extra page field 1 2 and 3 So the code in my template will look like this IF PAGE Field1 VAR Type PAGE Field1 VAR Type LOOP PRODUCTS PRODUCT Generic Category END LOOP PRODUCTS END IF IF PAGE Field2 VAR Type PAGE Field2 VAR Type LOOP PRODUCTS PRODUCT Generic Category END LOOP PRODUCTS END IF IF PAGE Field3 VAR Type PAGE Field3 VAR Type LOOP PRODUCTS PRODUCT Generic Category END LOOP PRODUCTS END IF Next you will want to setup your product template Go to Merchandising Custom Templates Page Product New Product Template and name
