attention and can replace the need for a lengthy description ShopSite includes support for two different images one on the main product page and a different one on the More Info Page A custom template designer could also use extra product fields for additional images or a merchant could include images within the product description ShopSite also allows merchants to decide whether the product image should be visible aligned to the left right or center and whether product text should wrap around the image or stay off to the side The logic and HTML code required to accommodate all these options can be very complex so unless the design requires support for the various options designers might do well to shy away from supporting them Product Description A description of the product can be anything from a couple of words to several paragraphs images and more ShopSite allows merchants to select a size and style for the description just like for the SKU or name although there is no option not to display the description ShopSite allows merchants to include HTML inside the product description and this is one area where it s highly probable that you ll encounter it Subproducts Subproducts can be used and presented in a number of different ways and they are discussed in more detail in the Subproduct Definition section below The Subproduct definition determines what the subproducts will look like but the parent product template contains the information about how or if subproducts will be displayed Purchase Data Purchase Data is made up of the form elements or links that allow the customer to add a product to the shopping cart The purchase data can all be presented in a single block or it could be distributed among the other parts of the product display In addition to a link to add the product to the cart purchase data can include product option pull down menus a product option text box and even an inventory display You may also want to include a link to view the shopping cart in each product definition One special type of product template is the Search Product Override Template which is used to list products on a Search Results screen Rather than show the entire product listing you may want to show only a summary and provide a link to a More Info Page or Store Page where the customer can see details or purchase the product The following example shows a minimal product template using only the Product Name Price and Description Weave Back Padded Chair 139 On Sale 99 This dinner chair has a woven back and a padded seat combining comfort and style Subproduct A subproduct definition is much like a normal product only the subproduct is displayed as a part of the parent product either in a Product definition or a More Info Page definition A subproduct can contain any information a parent product can The relationship to a parent product will influence how

graphical format There are numerous ways to use the page banner graphic it doesn t even have to be in the banner if you would rather use it somewhere else in the page Page Text ShopSite provides three specific text fields for use by merchants These text fields can be used to include a description of the page s content or instructions for the page or any other use you can think of ShopSite allows merchants to insert HTML into the Page Text fields in the Back Office so you will probably need to accommodate for that in your template designs Links to Pages ShopSite will automatically generate links to pages the merchant specifies in the Back Office Your custom template design controls where the links appear on the page The Link definition controls the appearance of the link itself By default the link to a page will appear according to that page s template not the template for the page the link appears on This behavior can be overridden by forcing all links to use a template specified in the page definition Product Listing The products are of course the most important part of most store pages and need to be displayed prominently The Page template only controls general layout for the product listing the listings themselves are part of the Product template Meta Data ShopSite has Back Office fields to create Meta information for Keyword and Description content which are important for search engines Extra Fields ShopSite provides for several fields that can be used at the designer s discression These fields could include additional text images links or special information used in the designs for advanced customization General Appearance The ShopSite Back Office allows merchants to select colors for content and a background image If you are making a generic template your design may need to incorporate these settings When designing a custom template especially site specific designs you can also include additional HTML content that will appear on every page An example of one way to use this would be to include a copyright notice at the bottom of each page This could be done as part of the Universal Footer or you could put the notice directly into the template and use the footer for something that may only be included on some pages Link The link definition controls how a link to the store page appears on other store pages By default a link to a page is controlled by the template specified for that page not the template for the page the link appears on A link can have any of the following elements Link Name The Link Name is frequently used as the text a customer clicks on to follow the link Link Image A link image can either replace or go beside the link name Link Text Link text could be a more detailed description of the page or it could be used to highlight the link such as indicating new
