used for links to the page although there is also a Page Link Name for that use Page Banner Graphic Two possible ways to use the banner graphic on a page could be as an icon style image that goes beside the Page Name or it could be the page name rendered in an attractive graphical format There are numerous ways to use the page banner graphic it doesn t even have to be in the banner if you would rather use it somewhere else in the page Page Text ShopSite provides three specific text fields for use by merchants These text fields can be used to include a description of the page s content or instructions for the page or any other use you can think of ShopSite allows merchants to insert HTML into the Page Text fields in the Back Office so you will probably need to accommodate for that in your template designs Search Results The search results contain two possible types of elements a product or a link When a customer searches for a keyword ShopSite searches the products database for any matching products The matching product is then returned as a search result and displayed on the search results page Next ShopSite determines which page or pages should be linked to along with that product and returns those links as well If there is more than one page link to be returned all those links will be listed before the next matching product Another point to note regarding search results has to do with products and their subproducts If you have designed your templates to use subproducts for cross selling you will likely not want your search results to show subproducts either as a separate search result or as part of the primary product If your templates use subproducts for similar products with different SKUs it may be more important to plan for the search to return subproducts Extra Fields ShopSite provides for several fields that can be used at the designer s discression These fields could include additional text images links or special information used in the designs for advanced customization General Appearance The ShopSite Back Office allows merchants to select colors for content and a background image If you are making a generic template your design may need to incorporate these settings Override Product Template The Override Product Template will control the appearance of products displayed on the Search Results page How products are presented on a Search Results page depends largely on how the merchant wants customers to use the page One option merchants have in the Back Office is to strip HTML out of the product description and cut it off at a certain number of characters This creates a simplified shortened description ideal for search results pages For more information see the Product Definition instructions Override Link Template The Override Link Template will control the appearance of links to Store Pages in the search results This template will not affect

not required as part of the Payment Information screen and can no longer be modified If the merchant is not using a confirmation screen showing the cart contents on the billing info screen can provide a chance for the customer to review their shopping cart before finalizing the order If there is a confirmation screen it can simplify the payment information screen to leave out any unnecessary information Checkout Totals Like the cart contents the checkout totals will not change on the payment information screen and can clutter up an already complex screen One good reason to display the cart totals however is that the customer may want to review the payment total at the same time they enter their payment method information If your design shows the cart contents you may want to put the checkout totals with the contents Another good location for the checkout totals would be near the payment information fields Billing Shipping Information Form Elements The Billing Shipping Information form elements are where the billing and shipping name and addresses are collected ShopSite generates the entire form section either with a single set of information to use for both shipping and billing or with separate sets displayed side by side or one above the other all according to the Merchant s selection in the Back Office This leaves the template designer limited control over the presentation of the information and what looks good in one layout may not look good in another Comments Form Elements The merchant can select whether or not to include a comments field on the billing information screen This field is similar to the shopping cart screen s Order Instructions field in that it could be used in conjunction with other form elements to gather specific information or it could be used alone for a more generic purpose Custom Form Elements ShopSite Pro allows merchants to define a number of custom form elements that can be used to gather additional information either related to billing or for customer profiling such as asking how customers heard about the Web site and what types of items they usually buy Because the form elements are completely customizable they are rarely used as part of a generic template but can be extremely handy in site specific designs E Mail List Checkbox Many merchants have e mail lists of customers which they use for newsletters or for mailing advertisements or coupons This checkbox allows merchants to ask customers to opt in for such mailings which helps improve the efficiency of using such lists It can be included anywhere on the payment information form depending on what other information is being gathered Payment Information Form Elements Most forms of payment a customer can select require specific payment information such as a credit card number or check number ShopSite includes the required fields on the payment information screen based off the payment method selected on the shopping cart screen Security Image Form Elements Security Images also known as

  • ShopSite Custom Template Tutorial - Gift Certificate
to the quantity selection box and recipient information To From Message Form Fields The form elements for the name of the recipient included on the certificate as well as the name of the sender and a short personalized message to include on the certificate are generated by ShopSite in this block Buttons There are two buttons that should be included on the certificate order form The buttons are both independent objects and can be located wherever you want on the screen One button returns the customer to the previous store page they were visiting without purchasing a gift certificate The second button adds the gift certificate to the customer s shopping cart Printed Gift Certificate The printed gift certificates are ordered by the customer then printed out and mailed to the recipient by the merchant The overall appearance of the printed certificates will probably be heavily influenced by the merchant and the printing capabilities the merchant has if the merchant is only able to print black and white documents having a highly decorated detailed certificate may not look as good as if the merchant can print color certificates Printed Gift Certificates should include the following information Recipient Sender Info The Recipient Sender information consists of merchant defined names for To and From description text as well as the information the customer entered on the order form for the sender and recipient names These are all independent objects and can be laid out however you choose on the certificate Certificate Value The Certificate Value is the selected purchase value of the gift certificate This is usually some of the more important information to the recipient and should be displayed prominently on the certificate There is also a merchant defined description text element that can be included with the value Message The customer may include a short personalized message on the gift certificate order form and this is where that message is included on the gift certificate Depending on the feel you want the certificate to have this could be included along with the sender and recipient info or in a separate area on the certificate Redemption Instructions This section is essential to the certificate as it provides instructions for the recipient to redeem the gift certificate It includes a link to the store as well as a certificate ID and PIN that must be entered on the checkout screen Certificate Page Layout When a merchant prints out a gift certificate there may be more than one certificate to be printed The printed certificate template needs to include information to deal with multiple certificates such as creating the beginning of the HTML page the certificates themselves and the end of the HTML page It is also a good idea to include buttons on the screen to allow the merchant to print the certificates and to close the pop up window to display the certificates for printing There are some HTML and CSS techniques for designing the layout and for preventing the buttons

  • Custom Page Templates: Product Placement and Layout
The HTML tags in the page and product templates must work together to create valid HTML You can display the products in columns by adding a parameter to the LOOP PRODUCTS tag You can let each product use the product template assigned to it or you can specify that they all use the same template in the PRODUCT tag Product Loop Example 1 This example uses a very simple table to display product information Since there is only one column the table isn t really necessary but the table structure is applicable to more complex layouts table LOOP PRODUCTS tr td PRODUCT td tr END LOOP PRODUCTS table Product Loop Example 2 This second example uses the same structure as the previous example but it specifies a template to use for all the products It also displays the products in columns based on the Columns value set by the merchant When the LOOP PRODUCTS tag includes a parameter for columns the tr and tr tags are put in automatically as the page is generated Do not hard code them as part of your template You would need to replace my product template in the PRODUCT tag with the name of your product template table LOOP PRODUCTS PAGE Columns td PRODUCT my product template td END LOOP PRODUCTS table Return To Page Template Home Page Check These Out Mobile Commerce Product Reviews Cross Sell UpSell Breadcrumbs Responsive Design Top Template Tips Custom Cart No Template Quick Easy Templates Divided Customer Text Entry Multi Add To Cart Template View All Most Popular Tips Update Your Templates New v12 SP1 Template Tags New v12 Template Tags New v11 SP2 Template Tags New v11 SP1 Template Tags New v11 Template Tags Page Templates Quick Easy Page Template Advanced Page Template Product Templates Quick Easy
