    Ozerkov Head of the Contemporary Art Department and Dr Anna Trofimova Head of the Antiquity Department in association with Antony Gormley and will be on view from September 23 2011 through January 15 2012 Still Standing will be accompanied by a catalogue published by Fontanka Still Standing encourages viewers to engage with both contemporary and classical sculpture in a new way In the museum s Dionysis Room Gormley places nine ancient statues in a loose constellation directly on the ground thus humanizing an interaction with the idealized and sexualized bodies of ancient sculpture In the Rome Courtyard one of the most famous interiors of the museum seventeen of Gormley s solid iron block works will be shown in a rigorous orthogonal arrangement The abstract and severely constructed modernist volumes and rough oxidised surfaces of Gormley s works will be contrasted against the ornate neoclassical architectural surroundings of the classical Greek and Roman galleries of the museum By dramatically altering the normal passage through the gallery space and the viewer s relationship to sculpture Still Standing proposes that what is seen depends more on the engagement of the viewer s own imagination than on museological theory Antony Gormley s work is
