    Dia Chelsea Originally shown in New York on June 18th and 19th of 1975 the 24 hour conceptual work will be on view in New York this weekend for the first time since its debut Long Film for Ambient Light uses three distinct elements to form a film in which no actual film or projector is used The work is comprised of a single electric light hung in the center of the room at eye level The windows of the room are covered with white paper limiting them to being light sources during the day and reflective surfaces or screens during the night On the wall McCall presents a time schema that identifies the period over which the presentation takes place along with a two page statement Notes in Duration which maintains that everything including the processes of looking and thinking occurs in time rendering the distinction between atemporal and time based art absurd As McCall describes the experience of the work Long Film for Ambient Light seems at first sight to be a simple installed environment The shifts that occur within it such as the transition the covered windows undergo from being light sources during the day to being
