    and performance With the city as their backdrop canvas stage and inspiration this exhibition is the first major presentation to examine the experimental and often daring approaches taken by these three key figures both individually and collectively in the burgeoning arts scene in downtown New York during the 1970s New York City provided a powerful context for the work of Anderson Brown and Matta Clark On the verge of bankruptcy in the 1970s the disappearance of manufacturing and other major industries and the withdrawal of public services were turning the city into a centre of widespread unemployment and lawlessness Artists responded by taking over derelict spaces to make and exhibit their work by using the city itself as the medium or setting for their work by creating opportunities to engage directly with the public out of doors and by building a vibrant arts community Featuring sculptures drawings photographs documentation of performances and mixed media works the exhibition focuses on the intersections between their practices and explores their shared concerns performance the body the urban environment and found spaces Related Events March 3 Time 6 30pm 10pm 6 30pm Gallery Talk Jane Crawford film maker and director of the Estate of

    virtual elements that interact with real world objects or performers Laurie Anderson s Sharkey s Day video is one of the great examples of this moment though many other artists among them Jaap Drupsteen John Sanborn Mary Perillo and Dean Winkler contributed to the field In recent years as computer and video technologies have exploded into everyday life a new generation of video artists including Katherine Behar Jacob Ciocci Shana Moulton and Robby Rackleff has found inspiration in the increasingly outdated moment of the 1980s Shown alongside original examples of this aesthetic their dreamlike visions reference the past while reflecting on the state of virtual reality in contemporary life The opening of Green Screen Dreams will take place Tuesday March 1 from 7 to 10pm and the program will play from 7 to 10pm from March 2 through 4 and from 8 to 10pm on March 5 and 6 ABOUT THE BIG SCREEN PROJECT The Big Screen Project is a creative initiative to promote art culture and entertainment in a public venue BSP seeks out creative content from non web based sources in order to bring fresh thoughts and visuals to our audience Content sources include private collections galleries museums and independent artists The goal of BSP is to continuously aggregate content to our outdoor LED screen while also establishing a network of portals where content may be viewed BSP is built upon shared experiences The 30 x 16 5 ft HD format screen is located at 29th Street and 6th Avenue adjacent to the Eventi Hotel Bar Basque and the Food Parc The Big Screen Project is open to the public admission is free and the hours are 7am to 10 30 p m every day For more information visit The Big Screen Project website ABOUT EVENTI Eventi is
