    Portugal The exhibition titled 62 Photographs 31 Women 42 Years was curated by Sergio Mah to take place in conjunction with exhibitions of work by Man Ray and Jorge Martins that also focus on portraits of women The exhibition opens on January 27 2011 and will be on view through April 30 2011 Sarmento s body of work explores issues of complex interpersonal relationships and themes of psychological interaction sensuality voyeurism and transgression through a wide variety of media 62 Photographs 31 Women 42 Years narrows its focus to a lesser known facet of Sarmento s oeuvre his photographs of women The exhibition features 62 photographs of women taken over the last 42 years of Sarmento s illustrious career illuminating an integral aspect of the artist s creative process Sarmento has exhibited extensively worldwide since 1979 He has been included in two Documentas and has represented Portugal in two Venice Biennales His work is represented in public and private collections worldwide such as The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden Washington D C the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art The Solomon R Guggenheim Museum New York The Museum of Modern Art New York the Musée National d Art Moderne Centre

    solo exhibition of Joseph Kosuth s work at the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art ACCA in Melbourne The exhibition titled Waiting for Texts for Nothing Samuel Beckett in play will include a new body of work alongside three historic installations The exhibition opens on December 21 2010 and will be on view through February 27 2011 The new body of work titled Waiting for Texts for Nothing Samuel Beckett in play engages with Samuel Beckett s writings with a particular focus on Waiting for Godot and Texts for Nothing The artistic practices of both Beckett and Kosuth are deeply concerned with an exploration of meaning through this new neon installation Kosuth uses language from Beckett s work to visualize this conceptual conversation Kosuth s work has consistently explored the production and role of language and meaning within art Waiting for Texts for Nothing Samuel Beckett in play pays homage to his nearly forty year inquiry into the relation of language to art through the display of three seminal works from Kosuth s oeuvre From the artist s first gallery exhibition held in Los Angeles in 1969 the ACCA will display some of the artist s seminal dictionary definition works Additionally

    included in the exhibition Grain of Emptiness at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York Grain of Emptiness which explores contemporary art influenced by Buddhist thought will be on view from November 5 2010 through April 11 2011 A catalogue with an essay by Mary Jane Jacob will accompany the exhibition The other artists included in the exhibition are Sanford Biggers Theaster Gates Atta Kim and Charmion von Wiegand Grain of Emptiness features Laib s Milkstone a work that demonstrates the purity and austerity of the artist s aesthetic A rectangular block of polished white marble containing a slight depression on its upper surface Milkstone is filled with a thin layer of milk to foster the illusion of a solid form Though an inert object this sculpture requires ritualistic participation Laib will perform the first act of pouring the milk when the piece is displayed but after this initial gesture the museum staff must clean and refill the stone each day it is on view Also included in the exhibition are works made from natural elements such as pollen and rice all of which underscore the meditative and contemplative nature of Laib s oeuvre In conjunction with Grain of
