    the country at the Carrillo Gil Museum of Art This major retrospective exhibition titled Una forma extrema de privacidad An Extreme Form of Privacy will feature work produced between 1995 and the present exploring key themes from Sarmento s distinguished practice Una forma extrema de privacidad curated by Carlos E Palacios will be on view from April 10 through August 4 2013 it is accompanied by a catalogue with texts from the Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art Chrissie Iles curator and art critic Adrian Searle and Carlos E Palacios Over the past four decades Sarmento has developed a multi media visual language combining painting sculpture film video sound and installations His work often deals with issues of complex interpersonal relationships literature and architecture The works selected for this exhibition focus on the concepts of memory sexuality and the subconscious in Sarmento s oeuvre Compelling recent works such as the performance Cometa from 2009 and the video work Cromlech from 2010 underscore the tense psychologically fraught and voyeuristic energy present in much of Sarmento s practice activating an intimate relationship between the viewer and the subjects of the work For more information on the

    will begin on March 22 2013 The project reimagines the Leap across the Elbe in visual terms Three searchlights will project slender beams of white light towards one another from three different locations from the roof of the Spiegel building next to Deichtorhallen in the HafenCity from the bunker in Wilhelmsburg and from the Falckenberg Collection in Hamburg Harburg thus linking the Elbe island with both the north and the south banks of the river Over the year these three horizontal beams of light will progressively rotate their angles of direction so that one by one all sections of the city will become part of this symbolic leap Starting ninety minutes after sunset Crossing the Elbe will be visible for 10 minutes every evening in most parts of the sky between Deichtorhallen Hamburg and Falckenburg Collection in Harburg As described by Anthony McCall Our habits as we work and live stay pretty constant in clocktime So there is a possibilty of people intersecting with the work in different times of their life habits I like the idea that you ll see it late at night a certain time of the year another time you might see it early And all

    which will be prominently displayed above the champagne bar at the center of the fair on Pier 94 The work entitled Day s End is a reference to a work by Gordon Matta Clark made in May 1975 on Pier 52 in New York at that time an abandoned structure that sits to the south of the Armory s current venue Alec Soth will participate in a panel discussion Alternative Americas in the Open Forum series taking place during the Armory Show The discussion moderated by Warhol Museum director Eric Shiner includes writer John Bowe and curator Lia Gangitano and will address a range of perspectives on America and the artistic undercurrents that could be seen as subversive or resistant to so called mainstream culture To this end the participants will present views on the country from inside and out and touch on issues in contemporary art brought about by the democratizing effect that technological advances has had with regards to the creation of images Alternative Americas will take place at the fair on Sunday March 10th at 3pm at Pier 94 in the Media Lounge The gallery will concurrently participate in the ADAA The Art Show fair at the
