  • Beaverbrooks proves it’s a real gem | TheBusinessDeskblog.com
Beaverbrooks the Lancashire jewellery retailer After the Companies House alert telling me their annual figures had been filed I downloaded the results which did not make for happy reading and then set about brushing up on the business via its website and articles we d written about it previously I learned that this year the family owned chain had been named the Best Company to work for this year in the respected survey by The Sunday Times I then watched a video clip on the website about the business which as well as a really annoying background music featured clips from the staff and management To a man and woman all enthused about Beaverbrooks culture how it was a great place to work and different from any other organisation etc It was almost as if beautiful smiley happy enthusiastic people had been imported to sing the firms praises I was therefore wondering if a telephone call to the company would elicit such positivity My hopes were not high when I explained to the lady answering the phone who I was and what it was about But she was faultlessly polite and warm rather than defensive and in some cases hostile She then put me through to a chap in marketing who was again very pleasant After explaining that I wanted a chat with the MD my hopes were still not high that such a request would be granted I fired off an email outlining my request and thought that I may get a reply in a week or 10 days Anyway imagine my surprise though when an hour later the phone rang and it was Mark Adlestone Beaverbrooks MD who spoke with honesty and passion about the business He outlined how the business was being hit by the recession and

  • Arnie wowed by Shanghai Expo | TheBusinessDeskblog.com
you and I want the world to come to California The significance of World Expo has gone down in the past and the Chinese have lifted it up again As the world saw at the Beijing Olympics last year the Chinese don t do anything by halves and so World Expo is truly impressive to behold Shanghai is said to have spent more than Beijing did on the Olympics to create the huge 16km site which is located on opposite sides of the Huangpu River in the east of the city It is a true melting pot with the likes of Iran and Iraq showcasing their culture and in Iran s case their wares Persian carpets no less alongside the likes of France Germany Italy and of course the UK The UK pavilion entitled The Seed Cathedral resembles a both a giant mushroom and an alien space craft and left me scratching my head a little The Seed Cathedral is made up of 60 000 acrylic rods each with a seed in the end The attraction is meant to portray the incredible diversity and potential of life on earth and while visually impressive I did wonder whether more could have been made of the UK s not inconsiderable heritage in the arts in science and in sport Almost as an afterthought the creative team appears to panicked and blagged a couple of waxworks from Tussauds to add a little more popular appeal One is a soldier wearing a bearskin and the other of course David Beckham the ultimate marketing show pony Liverpool one of just a relative few world cities present at the Expo sensibly plays to its strengths with plenty of football and of course the Beatles Share and Enjoy Comments 2 magento管理 says May 22 2013 at 6
