over for example it is easy to move the feeds accordingly by just changing one parameter feed spacing If a different paraboloid is introduced it is also easy to change Petzval s surface as it incorporates the paraboloid s focal length by means of a variable focal Back to top Absolute dimensions in Wizard In earlier versions the size of the reflector aperture diameter was given by the user when designing a system in the Wizard All other geometrical parameters e g focal length inter focal distance of sub reflector and others could be specified relative to the diameter as this is a common way to specify antenna systems Many users have missed the alternative to specify these numbers as absolute rather than relative values since they often are given for example the focal length in this way Their need is now served Back to top Fast BoR MoM solver The 3D MoM solver optional MoM add on is supplemented by a BoR MoM solver that can utilize a scatterer s rotational symmetry and speed up the Method of Moments computations dramatically The solver uses the same concepts as known from the 3D solver in terms of polynomial current expansion functions and curved surface patches an essential pre requisite for efficient computation on curved bodies As example consider the reflector system above It is a so called ring focus antenna which is rotationally symmetric These types of systems are advantageous in that they reduce the unwanted effect of sub reflector blockage however in the example shown the feed is moved away from the focus and there will therefore be a higher degree of multiple scattering between the sub and the main reflector The antenna can be analyzed with the standard Physical Optics tools in GRASP but the analysis will require

  • TICRA signs major contract with ESA | TICRA
tool is the possibility to combine it with the well established and validated GRASP The satellite model shown here kindly provided by M Sabbadini ESTEC clearly illustrates the commonly encountered problem when designing telecommunications antennas a multitude of antennas cramped onto a platform that leaves little room for the individual patterns to radiate without some interaction with the other antennas Today the antennas are designed developed and validated based on their isolated performance and the interaction analysis can only be performed in GRASP using a simplistic model of the platform Consequently the antenna designer needs to combine several additional tools to thoroughly analyze the antennas in their true environment The objective of the new project is to enhance the capabilites of GRASP with novel analysis techniques that will allow the antenna designer to model the influence of the antenna farm as an inherent part of the antenna design in GRASP The new tool avoids the current data exchange between GRASP and additional scattering tools leading to a faster design process and reducing the risk of errors Also the tool will lead to a more accurate design due to the detailed modelling of the platform offered The new tool will enable

  • Reflector antenna course at AP-S 2013 | TICRA
reflector antennas center fed as well as offset After a review of the analysis methods commonly employed for space and Earth station reflector antennas the basic design principles are presented First single and dual spot beam antennas are considered with the relation between size feed illumination directivity and sidelobe level Second the influence of blockage by struts subreflector and feed is discussed Third the origin of cross polarization in offset

  • POS version 6 released! | TICRA
the previous version will be glad to see that the object editor for e g a reflector now also provides access to all referenced objects e g coordinate systems rims etc On start up the user is presented with a choice of options including launching the auxillary program COBRA which is still old school but provides the antenne designer with a convenient tool to define coverages on earth as seen from space and subsequently generate a POS project It is also possible to select worked out examples from a library that includes amongst other single feed single shaped reflector direct radiating array and shaped reflector with feed array Automatic convergence estimate for PO The well proven GRASP method of estimating the appropriate density of the PO current sampling is now available to the POS user as well It is a long awaited feature in POS and particularly useful since for highly shaped reflectors it is not just the aperture size and the location of the file points that influence the integration also the shaping itself has an effect and all fine details must be captured in the PO integral Least squares optimization We have added a least squares optimizaton engine

of a hat feed and a shaped reflector all designed with CHAMP Testing was done at the Technical University of Denmark the location of the high precision ESA TUD spherical test range The hat or splash plate as the reflector in front of the feed aperture is sometimes called is supported by a dielectric material The influence of this is of course taken into account in the design as well
