Hobbit For those who are not big readers I d say listening to the book is a perfect pleasure Tolkien s famous saga the prelude to The Lord of the Rings has all the ingredients of fantasy and adventure dwarves elves goblins and trolls a fearsome dragon a great wizard a perilous quest and a dramatic climax The Hobbit radio dramatization became a classic when it was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and it continues to delight today Now in July a new edition of this recordings will be released by BBC AudioBooks America and will include archival interviews with J R R Tolkien Now that is something I look forward to I love the dramatizations and I love to hear the Tolkien interviews Type Audio CD Publisher BBC Audiobooks America Edition Dramatization edition Release Date July 29 2008 Language English ISBN 10 1602834547 ISBN 13 978 1602834545 On Tolkien Interviews Reminiscences and Other Essays Adio Book August 2008 It is so far I know the first time that a new book on Tolkien and not by Tolkien will be both released as a hardback and as a AudioBook at the same time This is a book we have all been waiting for for what seems like ages It will give us an extraordinary glimpse into the world of J R R Tolkien through his own words and those of family friends and colleagues A collection of rare interviews and personal reminiscences found nowhere else Beginning with a short interview with Tolkien from 1957 and continuing with remembrances and essays up through Peter Jackson s films the book gives a developing picture of Tolkien the man and writer first in his own voice and later from recollections of his friends and family Among the unique pieces are two lengthy recorded interviews that reveal Tolkien s conversation style Also included are a discussion by Priscilla of her father s painting and drawing and Christopher s description of the making of The Silmarillion We hear too from Tolkien s colleagues and contemporaries at Oxford and in publishing who discuss how Tolkien felt about his work s reception in the wider world And we read previously unpublished reflections from the man who arguably knew Tolkien as well as anyone Humphrey Carpenter his biographer I wonder if this audio book will have mainly the written texts by the authors of the book Douglas A Anderson and Marjorie J Burns in Audio format or if it will also have the original recordings of interviews with Tolkien on it It is fun to see that I suggested such an audio book should be made about a year ago and that now it might come true Type Audio CD Publisher Tantor Media Release Date August 2008 Language English ISBN 10 1400136482 ISBN 13 978 1400136483 The Lord of the Rings Audio Book September 2008 Exciting times it must be for BBC AudioBooks America They will release both The Hobbit The Lord of the Rings in audio

of Middle Earth all 3 Limited Deluxe Editions in Publishers Slipcase Saturday 6 June 2015 Signed copy of the Hobbit sells for record at auction SHOW ALL ARTICLES Subscribe in a reader Far over the Misty Mountains Cold 12 02 08 by Pieter Collier Comments On Monday The Tolkien Estate and Rupert Murdoch s HarperCollins Publishers sued New Line Cinema to claim their long forgotten gold in Los Angeles Superior Court The suit claims that New Line Cinema was required to pay 7 5 percent of gross receipts on The Lord of the Rings blockbuster to the Tolkien Estate and other plaintiffs They contend that they only received an upfront payment of 62 500 before production began and after that never received a penny To make things worse the claim also mentions that New Line is refusing to allow an audit of the second and third films in the Rings series The Tolkien Estate and other plaintiffs seek more than 150 million in compensatory damages unspecified punitive damages and a court order giving the Tolkien estate the right to terminate any rights that New Line may have to make films based on other works by the author including the two The Hobbit movies Lawsuits in Hollywood are as common as hobbits in Middle Earth and New Line has been suit over profits by so many different parties for example by Peter Jackson himself and Saul Zaentz that it shows how enormous financial success can breed unabashed and insatiable greed Despite the nearly 6 billion in gross revenues New Line has crafted a fantasy tale of its own making the stunning assertion that it has not received sufficient money to pay plaintiffs a dime The Tolkien trustees do not file lawsuits lightly and have tried unsuccessfully to resolve their claims out
