  • HOMESICK REVIEW | TrustNordisk
spend an evening getting to know each other there s an undeniable spark between them Homesick devotes most of its running time investigating where that speak leads Although they know it s wrong they begin sleeping together which means he must hide the affair from his wife and child Dag meanwhile is off on tour allowing Charlotte the freedom to pursue the tryst Non judgmental which isn t the same as having no opinion on what s occurring Sewitsky spends little time worrying about Charlotte and Henrik s ethical and moral dilemma instead invested in exploring why both of them Charlotte especially have decided to engage in this affair And it s here where Homesick is at its most tender and thought provoking In several small but important ways Charlotte has never really had a home Coping with a dying father and a distant mother who s always been consumed by her own interests she s a single child without much of a family Not surprisingly as we learn early on during a toast Charlotte gives at Marte s wedding she has had to glom onto others to help give her an identity No wonder that Charlotte is in love with Marte s brother as Charlotte says somewhat jokingly during her toast she s wanted to be Marte most of her life With this in mind Homesick s incestuous affair is one of emotional need rather than any kinky transgression This is not to suggest that there isn t a palpable physical attraction between the two characters Sewitsky includes a few brief but erotic sex scenes But even then the filmmaker wants us to see beyond the copulation to understand the underlying urges and drives Which are what exactly Teasingly Homesick never makes them explicit although the audience can make

  • Key House Mirror: Life-affirming and thought-provoking | TrustNordisk
Bille August s Best Intentions and last year s Silent Heart and Sweden s Sven Wollter whose credits range from Andrei Tarkovsky s The Sacrifice to Colin Nutley s House of Angels trilogy and a wonderfully precise script by Noer and Anders Frithiof August telling a life affirming but still none too conservative story about ageing a recurring theme in European cinema in recent years Lily Nørby moves into a nursing home with her husband of 50 years Max Jens Brenaa who has suffered multiple strokes and is immobile and unresponsive Lily is very caring and loving of her husband but she is actually probably just doing her best to alleviate the situation for herself it is not certain nor possible to prove whether he can perceive what is happening around him But she clings to the shadow of old love to the now limp body she had been physical with for half a century until a man nicknamed Pilot Wollter moves into the room across from theirs Actually a former pilot he is a man of the world brimming with charm and energy despite his Parkinson s disease They fall for each other passionately Lily feeling like a teenager and almost not believing the powers of emotion she has at her age But it soon turns out that she having believed she was in the nursing home for her husband s sake only is in the early stages of dementia the title of the film comes from a memory test that she takes There is one particularly provocative and heartrending scene when Lily and Max are celebrating Christmas with their families She decides to tell her daughter about Pilot while Max is sitting in his wheelchair between them This turns the film s emotion around and we are reminded

  • Michael Noer on ‘Key House Mirror,’ a Senior ‘Coming of Age Love Story’ | TrustNordisk
us expect to go such a residence and nobody wants to go there Being so stupid to make a contract with her led to this film At least this time I didn t felt I was sticking my nose into an environment that was new to me but rather describing my own family relations and my own subconscious fear A death fear I think it s more related to my caretaking responsibility I mean R is a film on how society treats and takes care of criminals in a prison And Northwest is very much about how young men are drawn to something they know is wrong because they re missing some male role models Even though this film takes place in a nursing home it actually has a lot in common with my previous films My approach has been the same By mixing professional actors with real life care takers and nursing home residents I am aiming for the same realism just in different surroundings As a genre movie I would define this film as a coming of age love story about people who learn to transcend something new to obtain love not only love to someone else but also oneself After R and Northwest people were perhaps expecting something else of you Are you interested in making films abroad There have been some offers and I m reading scripts all the time But I m also looking for realism I have to stick to my method I love watching Harry Potter but for me there has to be the spontaneity the energy between absolute extreme realism and the actors Ghita Norby is also playing the lead in Bille August s film Silent Heart prized at San Sebastian last year and also screened at Goteborg and Sven Wollter played
