have finally accepted our and her loss if that is possible Our loss was great but her s was even greater for she lost all she had her life Throughout this time period all the governmental agencies that we had contact with have been very kind and considerate to us and all the other families My concern is that the cause of this accident be established without a shadow of a doubt I do not want my life and the lives of my other children to be disrupted by the release of new information about this tragedy on a yearly basis as was the case in the John Kennedy assassination I request that the whole truth be released and that their can be no question of a cover up Up to this point in time I do not feel that this is the case There has been entirely to many statements made by the Navy NTSB and FBI that have been false and changed at a later date Case in point I was in a meeting in the Ramade Inn on July 20th 1996 where a Navy officier stated absolutely that there were no Navy assests within 185 miles of the crash site at the time of the crash Eight months later it was stated that 3 submarines were in the immediate area Very recently it has been established from expanded radar data released by the NTSB that 24 to 30 large ships near the crash site within a 25 mile circle moved in formation into the closed military restrected zone W 105 at the time of the crash Something is not right All of this and many other discrepencies trouble me a great deal What other information is being withheld I am of the opinon that our government owes

tank had exploded I was immediately interested When it was suggested that the cause was due to a stray spark from some aircraft wiring source I was amazed and quite simply disbelieving I was sceptical because a spark per se has no energy To be maintained it has to be fed from a source and it would require a large voltage spark to be effective Given the right conditions a spark can ignite a fuel vapour but not this fuel in these circumstances In the case of TWA 800 the catastrophic failure that engulfed this aircraft happened in only a fraction of time Such a failure required the instantaneous dissipation of a large source of energy If it is deemed that the fuel tank exploded it could only have done so if there had been applied across the tank a discharge of considerable energy such that the entire volume of vapour in the tank ignited virtually instantaneously In other words a detonation took place Combustion has a slow rate reaction and would require precise conditions and volume to achieve an explosion I am talking about the burning reaction of the fuel vapour The fuel residue would not have contributed to the explosion only to any subsequent fire Liquid fuels only burn as vapours Surface temperature and fuel temperature would control the vapour volume and as more vapour is generated so it mixes with the unchanged volume of air within the tank Reaction in vapours is governed by heat This may seem obvious but chemical explosives are different They are metastable compounds and so behave in a way quite unlike that of a vapour It is essentially the rate of reaction that separates combustion from detonation That is not to say that the eventual damage occurring from the two reactions will be dissimilar it is more a question of probability In this particular case we have to ask did the volume of this tank have the capacity to generate the pressure required to cause this explosion having been initiated by a low intensity spark from aircraft wiring The answer from me at this time is no COMBUSTION In combustion the reaction rate is relatively slow and therefore requires precise conditions to result in an explosion of such a magnitude as that which occurred to the TWA 800 aircraft Considering the fuel vapour as the only explosive medium present and given that the present argument provides for a spark having generated a fire in that vapour then the final energy dissipated would be dependent upon the rate of advance of the reaction through the vapour That reaction would be relatively slow to start and would accelerate as the heat increased That slow start would of course burn any air in the tank and at the same time remove some of the fuel vapour The reaction would be enhanced by the confinement provided within the tank and the tank temperature The reaction would however be restricted by the divisions in the tank This

official echoed the sense that things were different There has clearly been a learning process about the fact that it s an aviation accident until proven otherwise the official said In the Flight 800 crash investigators eventually concluded that an explosion in the center fuel tank was responsible for the tragedy While the board with its engineers and radar specialists has begun its methodical collection and examination of information its chairman Hall has been emphatic in his effort to establish his agency as the lead investigative outfit a status he believes it has under federal law During the first 48 hours of the investigation into the EgyptAir 990 crash Hall dominated the news briefings In the first news conference on Sunday he firmly requested that two F B I officials steer clear of the podium The changed tenor has been impossible to miss A White House official said the Clinton administration had pressed for the agencies to work more effectively in the aftermath of the Flight 800 crash and this week saw encouraging signs of change At this stage things are moving much more smoothly and we are very pleased with that the official said The problems with the Flight 800 investigation which were given a full airing at Congressional hearings last spring revolved around the often conflicting styles and needs of the F B I and the safety board The board felt outnumbered and strong armed and its investigators complained that too much speculation was going on that interviews with witnesses were mishandled and that they were occasionally denied access to evidence The F B I the board felt was convinced the plane had been brought down by a bomb and was determined to prove it The F B I for its part felt it had a responsibility to move aggressively They showed up with very little staff for weeks James K Kallstrom the former F B I official who ran the bureau s Flight 800 investigation said of the safety board They had five or six people there We had thousands of leads I didn t even see Jim Hall for a month Although the crash of Flight 990 has some eerie echoes of Flight 800 and while investigators are making an effort to conduct the inquiry differently there are also many factual differences that have colored the responses to the two disasters The similarities are that a jumbo jet left Kennedy International Airport and abruptly fell into the ocean with no distress call The abrupt destruction as well as that it involved an airliner whose destination was Egypt a country with a history of terrorist problems naturally led to the involvement of the F B I But the differences are profound say investigators involved in the two cases Flight 800 crashed when the United States was on the highest state of alert for terrorism in decades said Kallstrom now an executive at an insurance company in Delaware It exploded shortly after a summer sunset within sight of

the mishap being correct is vanishingly remote And yet the technological dumbbells at the Seattle Times have the temerity to demand that we all bow low to the government s dubious decree That is what one expects of people who are guided by illogical motives of which they seem blissfully unconscious In a recent interview former Navy Commander Bill Donaldson who has investigated the TWA 800 crash for two years on behalf of the Associated Retired Aviation Professionals noted that 26 other transport aircraft worldwide have been shot down by a man portable anti aircraft missile Thus there is nothing the least bit unique in the concept that the TWA flight was intercepted by such a missile It was well within range of some of the more advanced shoulder fired anti aircraft weapons and the eyewitness sightings are consistent with such a missile being fired at the aircraft A Lufthansa cargo jet was fired at with such a weapon in September near Karachi airport in Pakistan But gosh that doesn t jibe with the official version of events Doesn t that mean that Donaldson must be a paranoid conspiracy theorist Bill Donaldson is a retired Navy pilot with more than 24 years of experience in virtually all phases of naval aviation Among his other qualifications Donaldson lists graduation from the Navy s Postgraduate Aviation Safety School in Monterey California where I completed the long course in aviation safety and crash investigation I have served as a safety officer and crash investigator at both the Squadron and Air Wing levels and was qualified as a maintenance check pilot in six models of prop and jet aircraft Also I am a qualified air traffic controller and served for two years as a Carrier Controlled Approach Officer I would be interested to know what the technical qualifications of the editorial staff at the Seattle Times are to address this subject with such implied omniscience If as I suspect they have none I wonder whether they have ever bothered to get the opinions of people with the technical expertise to speak knowledgeably on the subject If not what qualifies them to hurl unsupported puerile insults at people who do have the technical expertise to address the subject Is this something they were instructed to do in the PC playbook The problem with too many journalists today is that they are mal educated indoctrinated opinionated far beyond their ability to comprehend and sorely lacking intellectual integrity Commander Donaldson recently gave interviewer John F McManus his own version of the TWA 800 crash I believe that a shoulder launched missile was fired from a small boat positioned less than three nautical miles to the southeast of the aircraft The missile punched through the underside of the aircraft at a point where the left wing meets the fuselage Its warhead a type that explodes immediately after impact penetrated approximately three additional feet into the six foot deep tank of fuel in that wing The resulting explosion caused

As required by law the NTSB has made this report part of the public docket by publishing it on their website No press releases or leaks to Post reporters accompanied the release of this smoking gun document Why have Senator Grassley and the NTSB been oddly silent about this report since their original hissy fits Perhaps because they read it This study has nothing to do with normal operations of an airliner on a pleasant evening with temperatures in the 70 s as was the case with TWA 800 This report concerns self sustained ground operation for a 48 hour period under environmental extremes as defined in Mil Std 210A This specification calls for Hot Day testing under the following parameters 1 125 F max air temperature 2 105 F max air temperature 3 85 F max air temperature Fuel supplied to the aircraft at 9O F under all conditions Sure enough the report shows that under these extreme environmental conditions the heat generated from the air conditioning packs can create flammable vapors in the fuel tank Of course there are four such packs on the E 4B as opposed to three on the TWA 800 747 model The most

why the U S attorney in New York would prohibit NTSB investigators from doing such interviews in violation of the NTSB s own protocol Worse yet she doesn t even bother to find or interview these witnesses herself We managed to independently find 140 witnesses in 60 locations 20 of which weren t even interviewed by the FBI Fuel volatility She totally misrepresents the complexity of fuel volatility and the history of fuel tank explosions aboard aircraft She cites crashes in which tanks were ignited with bombs tanks that were ignited by a collision with other aircraft tanks that were ignited by lightning Etc She totally ignores the chemical engineering data on the fuel that was used aboard flight 800 Jet A fuel which has an ignition flash point hundreds of degrees hotter safer than the fuels involved in these other crashes At sea level liquid Jet A can t even be lit with a match until its heated above 127 degrees Fahrenheit at which point if ignited the flame would then propagate about one ft per second across the surface of the fuel it would not explode She doesn t seem to realize the NTSB s own contracted flight tests proved the tank was non flammable much less explosive until the aircraft climbed above 14 000 ft TWA flight 800 never got to that altitude She seems to be totally ignorant of The hydraulic RAM over pressure of the left wing documented by military missile experts and their seven recommendations including firing of live missiles at 747 inboard fuel tanks She doesn t seem curious why the the FBI dropped their investigation without doing those tests at exactly the time they received a formal report from the military The high energy implosion of the center wing tank left wall

the investigative reporter who was prosecuted by the Justice Department for digging up evidence that proved that the FBI was lying about the crash O Meara s job on Capitol Hill gave her access to evidence that was being withheld from the media that clashed with what the FBI was saying She made Jim Kallstrom the head of the FBI s investigation furious when she took Kristina Borjesson with her to see the TWA 800 wreckage in the Calverton hangar Kallstrom called her boss and shortly after that O Meara resigned She and Borjesson began working on a documentary on the crash for Oliver Stone a project that was quashed At CBS Borjesson got permission to accept a piece of evidence that Jim Sanders had obtained from a whistle blower on the official investigative team It was a small bit of foam rubber from a seat on the plane that held a residue that might show that a missile caused the crash When CBS Evening News refused to accept it she gave it to Josh Howard a senior producer at Sixty Minutes who put it in his desk She warned him that he might be subpoenaed by a grand jury but that didn t worry him Howard claims he can t remember any such conversations and that he never saw the evidence even though Borjesson put it all in writing in a memo and sent him a copy She says CBS panicked when the FBI threatened a search if the evidence was not given to them Borjesson soon left CBS A former colleague said Kristina wanted to find out what happened She was going against the grain of what the network was committed to Bob Orr the CBS correspondent who covered TWA 800 told Weiss he was not impressed by
