    changed you and your business Even though I started in 2007 I didn t really take it that seriously because it was just for me and I only made my own bags Then everyone liked them and said I should make them and everyone wanted to buy them and so I just did it for friends family Then the Martha Steward thing just came out of the blue and since I was recognized it gave me that kind of you ve made it feeling because she is the guru of finding unique things Rightly or wrongly people put a lot of credit in what she says or thinks is cool so its really helped to grow my business that I wouldn t have gotten from a lot of other avenues 4 The other day we were talking and you had just scored a large order from one of your wholesalers that wiped a lot of inventory out How do you handle swings in inventory demand by pulling my hair out so now I get on the phone with UltraCart Support and have them help me make it look like I have products that aren t there So then I call UC and get my items on pre order since I have to run it like that and now everything is on pre order instead of out of stock That order almost took out everything To add to that issue People Magazine ran a random interview with Ina Garten and she mentioned my bag and so that has compounded the demand Things like that you can t count on or prepare for you just enjoy However it brings with it the challenge of ordering a lot more than what I typically do I just made an order for 300 of what I normally order So now I have to sell that too 5 Do you know how she even found your bags No I don t advertise except on small local stuff like Green Magazine Since I have green certifications I get listed so its not like buying ads they re just finding me The Martha Stewart thing was the same it came out of the blue and it was like baptism under fire I started with these made in the USA bags with clean and green and recycled bags and then my friend in the Peace Corps asked me to sponsor a project in Morocco I didn t want to do it but my friend was persistent about Free Trade and giving people fair wages for village people that aren t making any money So he made me feel sad and bad for the workers and so I sponsored the fair trade project in Morocco and that is the part of the business that has really taken off and its made ethically and its just good all the way around 6 You recently had UltraCart Pro Services create a website ecommerce platform for www simplepeace com Can you give us

    am not an expert in this area It is often easiest to market to the institutions so they are willing to help you through the procurement red tape If they want your product then they will help get you into any databases that you need to be in for payment Trying to push product on them is a lot harder 4 Glenn you offer customers a wide range of options from purchase orders pre orders quotes etc Why do you provide so many options We have a pretty fast moving product portfolio so preorders are pretty important to us because everyone knows when the next Apple iPhone is coming out and they want to order a corresponding ViewGuard product Preorders help our customers get their product as soon as they have their new device It also helps us manage that relationship by taking the order and only sending it for processing when the item becomes available Nobody likes to be charged before shipment and I hate it when it happens at Intelligen due to inventory miscounts or other situations As for quotes and purchase orders the two features within Ultracart go hand in hand The quote feature allows individuals or big companies to get a final price they might need to either make a purchasing decision or process a Purchase Order internally for them to place an order 5 Speaking of going to a lot trouble you ship to a lot of places internationally and you do it well Can you help us understand some of the thought processes you employ when deciding how to move into new international areas From the beginning we always had a number of international orders but we weren t really set up to manage those cost effectively for our customers In 2012 we went through an entire process redesign to take advantage of the ViewGuard brand in order to sell internationally We put together a process to automate required customs forms better pack international shipments using custom boxes and partnered with companies such as XPO Mail to offer lower cost door to door international shipping with tracking This has helped us sell a lot more product to customers outside the USA because we can offer competitive shipping costs 6 As one of the most active member s of our Peer to Peer Forum you are constantly pushing innovation and engagement through all levels of our organization and getting some great ideas pushed through in the meantime Why spend the time in the forum when you have so many other places to spend your time First I really like helping other merchants Second a fruitful discussion among merchants is extremely valuable to us as an online seller I put effort into the peer to peer forms in order to continue to create value for others and us Personally I think the peer to peer forums are a great way to generate ideas and find solutions It is also a great source about learning what other

    retailers engage in that space can you tell us how that went Well we are an online retailer however our product line is a bit small When I think online retailer I think of a website selling a lot of different type of products However as a manufacturer of a product we still feel we need a web presence and be able to allow customers to purchase directly at our website That being said we have had a great relationship with QVC since around Sept 2007 and we have sold a lot of product on all the QVCs around the world The USA UK Germany Italy they started just 2 years ago and our product was the number 1 selling product when they launch QVC italy and Japan Between all of these TV appearances we have sold more product than we have sold via our website so you can see that TV and the right product can be very successful 4 You are now selling slankets for kids how has the experience of going into that market been We started out with the Original Slanket which is large for a kid so it just made sense to make a smaller version We continue to call it the Slanket Kids however in all reality we have sold a lot of this version to adults that maybe be on the smaller height end of the spectrum So it is really a good product for anyone under 5 feet tall We also expanded to make a Travel version that comes with a fleece bag to carry it with and then the Siamese Slanket which is gigantic and has sleeves for 2 people We just go to keep trying different versions for different people and see what works and what may not work too well 5 You ve got some great competition in the slanket industry of course they all have their own names how do you differentiate your product Our product is The Original Blanket with Sleeves and quality has always been number one for us There are a lot of other names for it out on the market but in the end they are made from lighter material are smaller in size and just won t last long once you begin to wash them Also there are a number of others out there whose material just doesn t feel good on your skin So the main differences are the quality and softness of the material we use and the size which are the key features that all our customers tell us they like and appreciate RJ As an aside here I spent some time researching the slanket and its competitors for this article My findings in researching the slanket in comparisons to its competitors from the customer feedback on blogs comparison sites etc shows that they highly read HIGHLY favor the slanket in terms of quality and satisfaction after the sale Well done Jeff 6 What s on the strategic plan for
