  • 3 Things Not to Do When Giving and Receiving Feedback
recognize that there is a difference between constructive criticism and non constructive criticism Constructive criticism offers advice on how to improve a problem or situation where as non constructive criticism points out a problem without offering any possible solutions When giving feedback remember to focus on providing both positive feedback and constructive criticism Remember that constructive criticism can encourage progress and be extremely beneficial if it provides the receiver with a plan or idea to help improve the situation Receiving Feedback 2 Get Defensive Regardless of whether the feedback is delivered from customers business leaders or coworkers it is important to not get defensive Getting defensive and providing justifications for a problem only makes the situation worse Recognize that for the most part feedback is given because there is a problem which needs to be solved and that it is not necessarily a reflection on the person receiving the feedback Problems are an inevitable part of business and navigating and solving problems is essential not only to the growth of a business but to the growth of individuals as well 3 Fail to recognize feedback as an opportunity for growth Recognize that others taking the time to provide you with feedback is a good thing Without feedback you don t have the opportunity to improve It can be difficult to recognize areas for growth on our own which is why it is essential to enter a feedback session with an open mind Your Turn Do you think it is important to recognize the benefits of providing and receiving feedback Is it important to differentiate between constructive and non constructive criticism Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and like and share with us on LinkedIn Facebook and Twitter Tweet About Us We acquire strengthen and grow vertical market

  • Key Learnings: Mentoring Startups at CeBIT 2015
and mentors together who are enthusiastic about technology you are bound to come across some new ideas engaging discussions and honest exchanges about lessons learned and challenges overcome I truly believe that Mentoring is a two way street and we must learn from each other in order to continuously grow and improve our businesses Startups tend to have a tremendous amount of energy as they are always looking for new ways to drive their business forward and approach business challenges which makes them an exciting bunch to interact with This was also a great opportunity for me to learn from them about the new techniques they were applying towards achieving growth for their own businesses in areas such as digital marketing and branding and understanding the challenges they were facing in building a business based in Europe due to the language and cultural diversities that exist within the European countries I was also delighted to see the immense amount of support and encouragement that the German government through the German Startups Association gave them by investing a large amount of resources and time in helping them grow their businesses I also got to meet some of the mid sized businesses that seemed very long term oriented and deeply cared about their customers just as we do at Volaris It was also encouraging to see that many of the challenges faced by some of these mid sized businesses were similar to the challenges faced by the businesses within The Volaris Group In my personal opinion the CeBIT technology fair did a great job in facilitating the exchange of knowledge by providing an innovative platform for start up technology businesses from different walks of life and in different growth stages to interact with each other share ideas and learn from each other

  • Measuring the Performance of Your Software Company
whole bunch of daunting questions which include How much should you be spending on marketing How should you be developing products or implementing software How much should you charge for your products and services How do you invest in the future of your products to keep them current These are some tough questions to answer especially if your company is by itself in a bubble This is where benchmarking can come in handy as it gives you the opportunity to figure out what exactly is your business doing well what are the areas that you need to be focusing on improving and what are the actions you should be taking to improve your business performance How to Benchmark In order to make the most of your benchmarking process you need to first and foremost be able to define what it is that you want to benchmark These should be business processes that are measurable and exist in other businesses Measuring functions or aspects of your business that are simply good to know is not a particularly good long term strategy Instead focus on business processes that are important for achieving your business goals The next step would be to gather consistent performance metrics or data that shows your improvement overtime followed by comparing your company s performance metrics against the performance of other companies in the same or similar industries while analyzing the data at every step of the way Record your data analysis and develop an implementation plan to maintain business processes that meet the benchmark and develop strategies to improve processes that aren t performing as well based on your observations The Volaris Difference At Volaris one of our biggest advantages is that we have a whole bunch of businesses under the Volaris umbrella which have similar business challenges This gives us the opportunity to benchmark our businesses against themselves and also provides our businesses the opportunity to learn from each other by interacting with leaders who are doing well at a particular benchmark Figuring out how other businesses are successful at a particular part of their business allows businesses who might not be doing so well in that area to take those best practices and implement them back into their own business This helps foster a growth oriented learning environment where everyone can help each other improve and become more successful by benchmarking and looking at some quantifiable numbers Remember In order to benchmark successfully avoid benchmarking too many things initially Select a few areas that you have the ability or willingness to improve and then gradually add other areas to improve on over time You also need to remember to adjust the benchmarks as your business priorities change and ensure that you are monitoring your performance metrics consistently Your Turn Is benchmarking a common practice in your company What has your company done to improve their performance over the years after observing other companies Let us know in the comments below or reach out to us
