    Reuse Regulations and Legislation Providers YSI a Xylem brand Hach Company Schneider Electric Neptune Technology Group Inc Evoqua Water Technologies Veolia Water Solutions Technologies ABB Measurement Products Aclara Jacobi Carbons Endress Hauser Inc KROHNE Inc Kaeser Compressors Inc Emerson Process Management Rosemount Analytical Degremont Technologies Brentwood Industries View All Providers Application Note May 28 2009 Application Note Preliminary Performance Study On An On Line TOC Analyzer In Pharmaceutical Applications Source OI Analytical By Jeffrey Lane Steve Skalski and Gary Engelhart OI Analytical Total Organic Carbon TOC analysis is an effective technique for detecting and measuring the presence of organic contaminants in waters used throughout industrial processes municipal water uses and for determining residual concentrations of organic material on the surfaces of equipment used in the manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients For these purposes TOC instrumentation falls into two categories laboratory instruments used for testing grab samples and on line analyzers for continuous near real time monitoring Quality Assurance and Process Control managers employ both technologies to support operations and meet regulatory compliance requirements Based on wet chemical oxidation the 9210p On line TOC Analyzer monitors TOC levels in process streams ranging from 50 ppb to 25 ppm carbon In operation the system draws samples into the reaction chamber from a fill and spill sampling system at 3 to 7 minute intervals defined by the user Acidification of the sample removes the inorganic carbon content Addition of a persulfate reagent to the TIC free sample followed by heating to 100ºC oxidizes the organic components A solid state non dispersive infrared detector SSNDIR measures the resulting CO2 The system then calculates organic carbon content The 9210p displays results for each sample on the analyzer s touchscreen display The system can also output data to a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition SCADA system

    Automation Source Water All Source Water Contamination Desalination Water Scarcity Water Reuse Regulations and Legislation Providers YSI a Xylem brand Hach Company Schneider Electric Neptune Technology Group Inc Evoqua Water Technologies Veolia Water Solutions Technologies ABB Measurement Products Aclara Jacobi Carbons Endress Hauser Inc KROHNE Inc Kaeser Compressors Inc Emerson Process Management Rosemount Analytical Degremont Technologies Brentwood Industries View All Providers Application Note January 31 2012 Bringing Efficiency And New Confidence To BOD 5 Analysis Source Hach Company By Bob Dabkowski Hach Company Biochemical Oxygen Demand BOD analysis is the test everyone loves to hate and for compelling reasons The test has a number of disadvantages a five day incubation period extensive sample preparation and often difficulties in obtaining consistent repetitive values Most wastewater treatment plant laboratories currently use membrane based probes to measure dissolved oxygen DO in the BOD 5 Procedure Before the development of these probes labs typically used a titration method which was a lot more complicated and time consuming Although membrane DO probes took some of the hassle out of BOD measurement procedures they came with their own set of hassles according to Jill Bolin Laboratory Manager for the Water Utilities Department of Nacogdoches Texas We had a lot of drift on our probes because the membranes would constantly be fouling This was causing major problems with our blanks coming in We had calibration issues with the probes too We would always be cleaning recalibrating the probes and replacing the membranes to try solve the problems Bolin has been the laboratory manager for the city s water utilities department for the past 15 years and she recently received the Laboratory Analyst Excellence Award from the Water Environment Federation WEF Her laboratory analyzes the influent and effluent flows and wastewater treatment process controls for the wastewater treatment
