  • Make Ritual That Is Magick! * Wicca-Spirituality.com
as we can Contribute What You Can Wiccan Ritual is not a spectator sport Imagine a van that s stuck in the mud If everyone gets out and pushes you can free the van and get on the road But if only 2 people are pushing and 5 people are just sitting in the car waiting for it to get rolling it s not going to get very far at all Every person who does not contribute to the energy of the ritual is a dead weight on the whole group I don t mean to sound harsh but this is simply the fact For every ritual hanger on every person who sits back and waits for the ritual to come to them rather than to make it happen the energy of the entire Circle is depleted and the poor diamond bird is shackled to the ground There is no room for onlookers in ritual Everyone there must contribute You must go into it with full energy and enthusiasm and make it happen If others are dragging try to inspire them with your example and encouragement Help get them involved Be Real Another critical ingredient in making a ritual magickal is sincerity You can t pretend in ritual By definition ritual accesses your deepest self your truth You must be yourself Authenticity is vital If you can t bring your true self to ritual then you have nothing to bring because ritual and magick are all about Truth Not truth as in a limited human perspective or belief but TRUTH as in ultimate reality a law of the Universe that can t be altered or bent or broken In action this means that everything you say and do must be real You can t merely speak the words or sing the songs you have to really FEEL it You can t merely pretend or go through the motions you have to find the belief inside you that what you are doing is REAL You can t fake out the Divine You are either really there really honest and really powerful or you aren t And that makes all the difference in all the worlds Yes AND Now we also must accept that absolute authenticity is an Ideal more than a possibility We are all in process of becoming more real more authentic more transparent to Divine Reality So we can resolve to be as authentic as possible in each moment Fake It Til You Make It There s also the little catch that ritual and magick and spiritual power are new to many of us and that our culture insists they don t exist If you are imagining that you are drawing a line of light around the Circle authenticity does not require that you admit that it s not real Authenticity requires that you reach deep inside yourself to the level of wisdom that knows that energy work IS real And until you really know that just trust in

  • Participatory Ritual -- When Magick Ritual Doesn't Work * Wicca-Spirituality
happens what helps and what hinders it A Ritual Flop Twenty five people in a circle women men children One woman explains the sequence so we all know what we ll be doing But when we start with chanting celebratory singing not even twelve voices raise in tentative song The energy droops and sags like a sail with no wind dragging against the struggles of those trying to row ahead We slog through what should be a light joyous celebration as if we re sailing through mud and we leave feeling unfulfilled Why is this such a common scenario What went wrong Generating Entertainment Or Sucking On The Tube We live in a unique culture we have overabundant movies spectator sports theatre opera video games and of course the omnipresent television There s arguably nothing wrong with these but they teach us to be non participants People generally expect to be entertained and it often doesn t even occur to us that it s actually our responsibility to entertain ourselves Let alone others This mechanism is at work at parties too Think of the last time you went to a gathering not really into it but hoping it d be fun Chances are it wasn t unless other people were putting out an extra effort to be entertaining We make our own fun or we don t have any And if most of the people are making their own fun they create a lot of fun for everyone Like a feedback loop the fun keeps bouncing off people and added to The party takes on a vibrant life and everybody talks for weeks about how great it was Ritual works exactly the same way The magickal energy builds in a geometric progression multiplied by each person who adds to the ritual It Is In Giving Of Ourselves That We Receive This is one of the most important concepts to understand about ritual We usually go to rituals in order to fill some need in our lives to get something out of it How often do we consider that we go in order to bring something to others or to the Divine Celu Amberston author of Blessings of the Blood A Book of Menstrual Rituals for Women believes that participating in ritual is not a way to fulfill our own needs but rather an opportunity to give something back to give our energy and our love to the Earth I would add that in such a giving we ourselves are filled As the 3 Fold Law states What you give out comes back to you threefold Energy Is Ritual Ritual Is Energy Energy is the key ingredient in magick building it focussing it using it releasing it When the combined energy of a group of focused individuals comes together the effects can be amazing When we each of us pour our energies into the circle magick moves The trick is then simple The single most effective tool for satisfying ritual is

  • Wiccan Ritual Leader -- Tips and Info * Wicca-Spirituality.com
moment There are several reasons for this starting with the most important if you want a ritual that really gets people involved they must be able to contribute to it Everyone helps shape a ritual in small ways and this makes them an integral part of it The ritual is then not just following someone else s directions but something that comes from each and every heart It makes the ritual alive and real and thus powerful There are limits of course If it gets too chaotic If people have divergent goals or ideas or If it degenerates into more of a coffee klatch then the energy is lost and magick fizzles out How does a ritual leader know when to call everyone back to the agenda There s no rule about this There s not even a guideline You can only know this by keeping your finger on the pulse of the group soul When the ritual is still alive and moving you can go with it When it droops you can guide it back to power That s where a High Priestess s real skill becomes apparent Not only does an experienced ritual leader know when and where to guide the Coven Circle but she has the skill to lead the way gently and inspire rather than command others to follow Authenticity As discussed in How to Make Ritual That Is Magick authenticity is vital to ritual As a ritual leader this translates into how you function as Priestess You need to be yourself of course But you should be your best self Give yourself permission to be the person you wish you could become and even pretend to be this person Such pretense is actually authentic because in fact you ARE your best self even if you don t always show it Lead by example Show people what to do lead the way This is far more effective than describing what you want people to do and waiting for someone to have the courage to try it and see if they understood you correctly Plus they won t have to worry about going first because you ll have already filled that role Make your words and actions real As ritual leader you especially must have power and truth in everything you do Whatever you say feel and believe in the truth in it Whatever you do feel and believe the reality of it That will make the experience much more authentic to everyone including yourself and the Divine One practical aspect of this is that you must speak from the heart If you are worried you won t remember what to say then PRACTICE it Memorise it if necessary but allow for it to come out a little differently in ritual You can even put some notes on a piece of paper on the altar if necessary or write on your hand or whatever you feel you must do except for one thing Do Not Read From

  • Pagan Ritual Leader -- Tips for an Engaging Ritual * Wicca-Spirituality.com
something to the ritual an altar object something for a spell an intention a feeling Let them know in advance if it s a give away object Do something with these objects incorporate them into the ritual If they are unfamiliar with Pagan ritual explain very briefly what they ll be doing and what they need to know Make sure they understand beforehand the goals and actions in the ritual this is why an introduction is so important either before the ritual starts or by phone email contact a day ahead Lead everyone in practicing the songs before the ritual begins so they will be able to join in during the ritual Also keep the songs appropriate to the group beginners will do best with simple chants experienced practioners can do some more involved songs But everyone does better with songs they are familiar with Arrange for simple percussion instruments like shakers and zils and encourage people to play with them or clap along Make sure everyone understands that it s important to join in however they can Give people permission to play and even mess up Let their inner child have some fun and put that old critical judge to bed People hold back because they re nervous or shy or afraid of making mistakes Make it okay to experiment Let go of any attachment to the agenda I ve seen more than one wonderful Pagan ritual ruined because the leaders insisted on things being done a certain way when the energy was building instinctively for the whole group in another direction Generally you want to stay with the program more or less and allow some openness for spontaneous magick The real trick here is as a leader of a Pagan ritual to keep a finger on the pulse of the group If the magick is working the agenda doesn t really matter This is a sign that the group soul is needing something a little different from what s been planned But if the magick is drooping bring the group back on track Be aware of what you want participants to take with them when they go their altar object now magickally charged exchanged gifts or altar objects a new idea a more positive feeling Sometimes a talking circle during ritual can help solidify the more intangible gifts Before closing the ritual allow time for people to briefly share what they ve experienced during the ritual This can help anchor the transformation No matter what type of Pagan ritual you are leading it will be most effective and most rewarding when you engage all the participants as much as possible Creating a ritual with this in mind will set you and your group up for ritual success Be sure to also read this article on How To Be An Effective Ritual Leader With Bright Blessings Next Article on Wiccan Ritual Like this article Please give it a thumbs up in Stumbleupon Help others find this resource Thanks so

  • How Magick Ritual Works * Wicca-Spirituality.com
s all about working magick This first step is covered in other Wicca Spirituality com articles like the Essence of Magick so let s move on Magick Ritual Grounds Intention Into The Physical World Ritual engages the body You don t just think a ritual you participate in it You move you dance you use your voice and hands and eyes and ears and every part of you This makes you a physical conduit for our intentions ie magick spells to be grounded in the world Otherwise intentions can stay a little cerebral ethereal and distant Remember the old saw about God helping those who help themselves It s a bit like that When we set an intention we set energy in motion to create a specific result The energy is a LOT STRONGER though when we engage our physical bodies to help it manifest as well In the world we do that by picking up a shovel or the phone or whatever it is that gets the job done In ritual we do that by symbolic action in essence dramatising the intention Our bodies and voices create the action and set that energy physically into the world This gives our intentions more power and more material reality Which brings us to the next point Magick Ritual s Drama Sparks The Soul Magick works on the level of the soul And drama engages the soul s full attention The soul s language is symbolism and drama is symbolism in action Ritual is inherently dramatic to some degree It may be very low key or it may be high ceremonial magick and anything in between But whenever you light a candle invoke a deity cast a circle or create a magick spell you are acting out an expression of your imagination That s drama High Ceremonial Magick ritual takes this to its limits If you can let go of judgements and self consciousness and play with it it can be incredibly effective Have you ever seen magick incantations being done in a mystical language Or experienced the Catholic Mass performed in Latin Using a mystical language increases the drama It also sidesteps the ego brain and speaks directly from and to the heart mind This increases its magickal power It helps you shift consciousness from ordinary understanding to metaphysical awareness Arcane language half understood captures the soul s imagination taking you from left brain understanding of the word to right brain mysteries the full potential of meaning that is hinted at An opening is created for magick to happen for a new Power to be contained in the Word Thus the words you speak become a container not only for your stated intention but the possibility of its fulfillment This is why High Magick ritual is so potent Most Wiccan ritual and Wiccan magick is done in a much more relaxed style But some elements of drama always enhance the power of magick ritual With Bright Blessings Next Article on Wiccan

  • Wiccan Ritual Etiquette & Codes of Conduct * Wicca-Spirituality.com
last sweep of the broom When the tables and candles are put away it may look like it s mostly done but you re only halfway there at most And if your group sets a standard for this help you will appreciate it when A It s your turn to organize and clean up and B People are willing to organize another ritual because they know they ll have help Participate fully Sing and if you don t know the words hum or clap or drum It s everyone s participation that makes a ritual work If you re not adding to the ritual you are a weight on the collective energy so join in however you can Stay on focus don t chit chat Come early to have time to socialize Ritual time is too precious and too scarce to be frittered away Be aware when moving into and out of sacred space Ritual etiquette and magickal process require that if you need to leave the Circle cut a doorway in the Circle boundaries and seal it behind you Or have someone do this for you Repeat when re entering But it s best to plan ahead and not leave the Circle unless you absolutely must Even with care energy is disrupted and lost so the best ritual etiquette is to stay with it all the way through It s not Drop In Out It is rude to leave a church in the middle of a service and it is just as bad ritual etiquette in Pagan circles If you know ahead of time that you must leave let others know and be prepared they may tell you it would not be appropriate and that if you can t stay for the whole thing to please not join in If something comes up and you must leave unexpectedly tell someone quietly what is going on and unobtrusively exit the Circle It s absolutely essential to let someone know why you re going If you are actually needing help which you may not be aware of if the energy is disruptive to you you will be safe And it relieves others of worrying about you unnecessarily so they may carry on with the ritual No cell phones in Circle It s remarkable that some people don t realise how disruptive this is But a phone ringing immediately takes everyone s attention from the internal to the external from the magick to a distraction and is very poor ritual etiquette Never take photos during ritual Wiccan rituals are not spectator sports If you are taking pictures you aren t participating in the ritual Cameras remove you from the energy like a wall between you and experience Also it shift everyone s focus away from the magick And there s a third reason Only take photos of Witches at gatherings with their express permission The Number 1 Wiccan Etiquette Taboo is outing someone as a Witch Wiccan or Pagan It can have

  • Honouring the Death of a Witch / Wiccan * Wicca-Spirituality.com
If you have people you think might also want to honour the one who has passed you can do it with them Or if you have friends who ve had their own losses each of you can set up your own altars and then take turns speaking of their beloved dead This memorial service doesn t need to be visibly pagan at all After all every religion has some kind of ceremony like this You can use more generic words that everyone can relate to Memorial Service Outline The basics of such a public ritual for the death of a Witch would be Set up a memorial ie as described as an altar above Ideally everyone will contribute something to it Let everyone gather and get quiet after the memorial is made It is always good to sing a song or say a blessing or something that will bring everyone together State your belief that your loved one is still with you all in spirit and can hear you when you are thinking of them Let each person have time to speak if they wish about the beloved dead They can share stories happy or sad They can say what they wished they d said to the person but didn t They can share anything they like for their own healing for the loved ones benefit or for the group to share in In the end reaffirm that you believe your loved one has heard all of it and that sharing of their life this way keeps them alive in everyone s hearts That the bonds of love never break It is also a nice touch to affirm that this helps bond all of you in deeper love as well Another song is good at the end to say goodbye to your loved one and to soothe distressed hearts If possible end on a light note And plenty of hugs When A Wiccan Loved One Is Dying Assuming you are not Wiccan yourself here s what I d suggest The first thing is to ask your loved one what they might need right now If they are not able to do this for themselves they might appreciate someone lighting a candle for them smudging them or something They may want more earthy support like brushing their hair or holding their hand You could let them talk about their process their feelings their fears and hopes Many people find it hard to hear their loved one speaking about dying so the person doesn t have anyone to share their feelings and thoughts with A calm compassionate ear can be a real gift Finally ask them what they want in terms of a memorial service or funeral I think few Witches are really adamant about their memorial services We believe we have gone on to a new life in some form And while we recognise that a memorial service is for those who are left behind the only things most Pagans are
