    I had to make that dream a reality Tell us about Carissa Rose Designs and its products Carissa Rose Designs LLC is an online retailer selling button down shirts tailored tops and woven dresses for women We specialize in fitting the female form our exclusive designs are available in two shape profiles to accommodate bust and waist curves with no pulling or button gaping Are the products only available online What do you offer to help people purchase your clothing online with ease Yes our products are available exclusively online At the beginning of the year we realigned our business model to be consumer focused instead of based on wholesale activities We have a new website launching this month that is dedicated to helping people purchase Carissa Rose Designs LLC with ease It has an updated sizing form increased explanation of our silhouette types posted reviews to learn from other customer s experiences size fit tab for each style and free returns We are excited to have these increased merchandising capabilities And best of all we love talking with shoppers they are always invited to give us a call to discuss the specifics of a style s fit How did any advisors make a difference in your business In the launch phase I found a SVP with Levi s through our local SCORE Service Corps of Retired Executives through the SBA He was an excellent mentor as I figured out how to mass manufacture a garment Now as we are growing a client of ours who is a serial entrepreneur and now high net worth individual and angel investor advises us on business growth What do you consider the most difficult challenges you face as you grow your business Finding our customer is our core challenge Being an online retailer we can t count on foot traffic as in a mall to bring people to our door We have strong resonance with our customers but the challenge is we have to find her We have not had a marketing plan in place yet and have done very little in the way of marketing other than word of mouth and reaching out to media ourselves What do you consider most rewarding as an entrepreneur Empowering women with comfort and confidence to live each day to the fullest is extremely rewarding I also feel rewarded when I get an email phone call or Facebook comment that says I love my Carissa Rose shirt and feel great in it or It s the first button down shirt or dress I ve been able to wear in years How was your experience participating in the TLC Show Homemade Millionaire Homemade Millionaire was a wonderful experience Surprisingly I really enjoy being in front of a camera and of course talking about Carissa Rose At the time I was still homeschooling my children so to be in alone in NYC for more than a week was quite a treat for me The people involved in the

    in the business are numerous and may have more to due with societal factors and that culturally the standard humor still tends to be male and has been so for hundreds of years I had an opportunity to read Liza s most recent book When Do They Serve the Wine The Folly Flexibility and Fun of Being a Woman and it s a great read and gift to women of all ages I particularly love the cartoon with the book s title I asked Liza to talk about her motivation and she shared that it was a combination of many things coming together Joni Evans a powerhouse in the publishing world suggested that she write a book about women of a certain age Liza liked the idea but realized she would prefer to write a book that described women of all generations and how all of them go through unique challenges at each stage of their lives In the book she shares how women go through difficult and or funny situations while they try to figure out who they are and how they fit with their culture Liza also has taught Women Studies at Vassar College and she considers herself a student of the feminist movement and she wanted to ultimately bring women of all ages together over humor showing that they are all dealing with the same issues at certain stages of their lives She mentioned that every decade brings its own set of rules restrictions and codes of behavior and she was certainly able to interpret them through her wonderful cartoons I asked Liza to share an advice to someone who dreams of becoming a cartoonist and she suggested that he she draws a lot the more they draw the more they understand what they want to say

    successful We need a board of advisors to help us with our thinking to open doors for us to provide us advice and counsel and to provide us with the courage and confidence to achieve our business goals Too many times we try to do everything ourselves We need to ask for what we want and to figure out how to make it happen WBiz Good point My first book is about asking for help How did any outside advisors mentors make a difference in your company SBB Our outside mentors and advisors help us to think differently to have confidence in ourselves to come up with different solutions and to be advocates for us WBiz What inspired you to write Women Count A Guide to Changing the World SBB It became a habit of mine to count women everywhere I went And the numbers didn t seem to be changing Looking up into the top management of organizations I saw even less women It was then I decided that I wanted to make the numbers change during my lifetime When I was first promoted to partner I began taking women out for breakfast or lunch to let them see what a woman in a senior leadership position looked like I wasn t a man in a skirt Remember this was in the 1960s I began mentoring women and advocating for them and became excited when women were promoted to manager senior manager or senior leadership positions I want the world to move from counting women to making sure women count It is my passion that everyone will support my goal of equality in sight for women by August 2020 the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote My book is part history celebrating what women have accomplished to date how women are changing the world today and what we need to do to bring about equality by 2020 I challenge everyone who reads my book to answer my question How are you going to change the world for women your community your family and our nation It is up to us to make the world nation a better place for our having been here WBiz Who should read your book SBB My target initially was women Since women comprise nearly 50 percent of the work force participate in or make over 80 percent of the consumer decisions and manage over 70 percent of the personal wealth in this country we should have the power to make change happen for ourselves wherever we are Men have told me that every man should read this book to really understand the environment for women particularly if they have daughters and granddaughters Men need to get on board with this change to make the world a better place for their daughters and granddaughters Young women have said that they enjoyed reading the history of women from the early times A student mentioned that she

    I was most in need of my monthly income was 3 4 figures and my annual was in the low mid five figures after I broke through to 6 figures and now 7 is my goal The more I learn the better I get at operating my business the more I am freed to serve with abandon all the people I m here to serve and the greater difference I can make in the world through the vehicle of my entrepreneurship What advice would you give someone interested in starting a business as a healer REALIZE THIS You may be a magnificent healer but if you don t have the foundations rock solid and your OWN healing pretty well completed then you are going to be entering into a RELATIONSHIP with your business that will be a crucible for your OWN STUFF to come up If you are being called into business as a healer make sure you have your own energetic foundations firmly in place Here s another blog post I did a while back on my private blog about energetic foundations for further insight into what I m talking about here http amethystwyldfyre wordpress com 2009 11 06 building on solid ground One leg of my own personal journey involved opening a healing arts center and art gallery this was a 250 000 lesson in my own money wounds better to do the energy work the soul shifting work the illumination of your wounds FIRST shifting old patterns and clearing karmic contracts at the energetic rather than having to play it out in the physical world One of the beauties of mentorship is that you can stand on the shoulders of your mentor you can reap the benefits of THEIR journey without having to go through the story line yourself This issue of WomenandBiz com is about using social media effectively How are you using social media to grow your business LOVE LOVE LOVE Social Media I think for women in particular it plays right in to our natural ability to connect and collaborate It s been a huge gift for me and my business and is one of the most used areas of marketing and promoting my business that I count on I have made a huge number of connections with people and we are all able to actually get to know one another and about each others businesses to see if there is a fit for us to play together in some way pretty instantaneously and with a lot less time consumed than the more traditional forms of old fashioned in person networking The birth of social networking the internet in general and teleconferencing technologies have opened up the WHOLE world to me and my business I now have worked with clients on almost every continent except Asia Are there any other questions you wished I had asked from which you feel Women and Biz s readers could learn valuable lessons This is a GREAT question

    eyes and ears open for new project and networking opportunities that would help lead me in that direction I remained flexible and developed various transferrable skills along the way in order to keep myself employable through any economy In every job search campaign I recreated my resume to fit each position something I strongly advise today There is no one size fits all resume You must reinvent yourself on paper to target yourself to employer client needs As far as my business I listened and responded to the needs of each client that came my way which happened while shopping going to concerts parties and the beach and traveling business is everywhere My skills in writing speaking mentoring and training which I used throughout my past careers are what make up my separate divisional services today The Our History page of the About Us section on www careersadvance org reveals this exciting reinvention process well it was for me Congratulations on winning the 1st place in the semi finals of the Toastmasters World Champion Speaker Contest that s a HUGE ACCOMPLISHMENT Could you share the highlights of your experience Nothing short of amazing Progressing from Club and Area to Division and District contests and preparing for the Semi Finals was exhilarating It forced me to hone in on my speaking craft perfect my speech and meet time constraints 30 000 contestants competed internationally and led to the 81 Semi Finalists To win 1st place and advance to the Finals is indescribable I was treated like a celebrity for the next two days as I went through the halls of the hotel Competing against 8 male contestants in the Finals two days later was truly humbling It was wonderful to meet such passionate people and hear talented speakers The best part was delivering my Mission I m PossibleTM speech to an audience of over 2 000 and having many come up to me afterwards sharing that I changed their life There is no bigger trophy than that I ve had a chance to attend and laugh at a couple of your stand up comedy shows how did you get into it and how has the experience been like During a training weekend at Monster s Making It Count my first public speaking gig I was asked to partake in the talent show with some comedy I figured no one would boo me off stage so why not I got lots of laughs and some crickets a k a silence I did it a few more times at annual trainings and got the bug to do it in a real comedy club I called several in Manhattan signed up for one and they put me on a list which led me to Gotham Comedy Club I won t be pursuing comedy as a career it requires time and development as all other careers but once in a while for fun It s where I can make fun of me my traveling and
