  • The Hypnagogic State: How to Have Lucid Dreams Using Hypnagogia
To begin lay quietly in a darkened room as if you are going to sleep An even better starting point is when you wake up in the night already relaxed preferably after 4 6 hours of sleep Allow your eyes to close naturally and observe the darkness The goal is to relax deeply and convince your body that you are going to sleep The challenge however is to quiet your mind just enough no mind chatter while holding onto a strand of awareness Hypnagogia often begins with amorphous blobs of color slowly moving through my field of vision Then they shape up into more interesting patterns I then visualize new forms for my hypnagogia to take by willing the visuals to form shapes with increasing complexity It can help if you mentally say things like I m going to see a square now and then actively look for it With practice you will learn how to evolve these moving shapes into people and places which dictates the nature of your upcoming lucid dream At some point your dreaming mind takes over introducing new imagery from beyond your field of vision I d liken this to recalling a memory The sensation and emotions and visual recall come to mind from somewhere beyond the projected imagery And so the lucid dream begins If you remain aware you ll find yourself in a lucid dream To be a true WILD there is no lapse in consciousness You may lose awareness for a few moments then remember you are dreaming This is more aligned with a Dream Initiated Lucid Dream or DILD Depending on your state of mind when the hypnagogic state begins it can take as little as a few seconds to turn the visuals into a lucid dream Or it can take 20 30 minutes After this length of time it is a judgment call whether to keep going If you are starting to feel restless then it s time to stop If you feel dreamy and sleepy by all means keep going The hypnagogic induction technique is a compelling way to explore the realm between consciousness and sleep You will discover deep relaxation trippy visuals clarity of thought stress relief and new insights Some people find it difficult to master at first The hardest part is making the transition from observing the hypnagogia to becoming fully submerged in the dream However it is worth practicing because this also serves as a powerful form of meditation which itself aids lucid dreaming Learn More About The Hypnagogic State I ve discussed multiple techniques on this site in which the hypnagogic state plays a role To learn more check out Exploring Your Hypnagogia How to Visualize Brainwave Entrainment Meditation Wake Induced Lucid Dreams Out of Body Experiences Share email facebook tumblr twitter reddit google pinterest Your Gateway to Lucid Dreams Some people dream to sleep Others sleep to dream Start now About the author Rebecca Turner is the creator of World of Lucid Dreaming

together but the suit makes it very hard to achieve stabilization So I just look at my hands trying to make out all those little details of the suit It works I feel the dream becoming clearer For some time I just keep gazing the beauty of my dreamscape repeatedly reminding myself that I m in a dream After a while I decide to leave this place but all of a sudden I have no idea how to do that I try spinning around quickly but the nothingness of space makes it impossible As I m thinking about a better method a straw passes right in front of my face A straw What is it doing out here Oh yeah right This is a dream I forgot for a second I grab the straw and without much thinking I stick it right into the glass of my helmet It penetrates it like it s some sort of rubber bubble as I m trying to suck up the whole universe water is dripping out into my mouth What the I don t get it If there really IS nothing but vacuum out there it should act differently And realizing that I feel myself being pulled out into space through the straw It all happens within a second i feel how my nose is being stretched without any pain and how the rest of my body follows it into space The moment my awareness expands to infinity I wake up Artist portfolio lost and fun tumblr com Moving On by Firda Istania I believe there s nothing more symbolic and fantastical than one s dreams The red building was a big mall and I was inside doing my activities I went to the veranda and the gravity suddenly rotated 90 degrees like in the picture and I saw two office buildings beneath me I didn t want to let go from that place but the gravity forced me to and somehow I felt that I need to go there I let go and floated downward while looking at the mall and noticed the Japanese ornaments and the huge clock landed on the small scale offices Even though there were only buildings and a sky the boat somehow was there floating like it was on the water Artist portfolio fistaniaa livejournal com Lucid Vibrations by The Full Circle Experience I have some really dreamy songs about the subject Here is the album I think it s appropriate I post it because the title of the album is Lucid Vibrations and almost all the songs have to do with dreams One of the songs is even called Dreams another being Your Lucid Dream Artist album fullcircleexperience bandcamp com Lucid by Casale I started by writing a kind of clunky piano piece in a hurried kind of way but then I got tired so I went to bed The next morning before waking up I had a small lucid dream during which I decided to

  • An Inception Review
dream within a dream Otherwise they d descend into limbo a bland dream world that was slowed down so far decades in limbo might only translate to minutes in reality That s a terrifying concept in itself But don t be fooled by this lucid dreaming myth where Inception s rules stray from the truth most people realize it s just a bit of speculative fiction and nothing to get your knickers in a twist about Commit to these rules and you will be rewarded with a gripping adventure delving deeper into lucid dreamscapes which are rarely stable and open to invasion by unconscious demons operating on an entirely different agenda The People Behind The Dream Inception has an all star cast Leo DiCaprio Joseph Gordon Levitt 3rd Rock from the Sun Ellen Page Juno Cillian Murphy 28 Days Later Marion Cotillard The Passionate Life of Edith Piaf Ken Wantanabe Letters from Iwo Jima and with brief appearances from Michael Caine and Pete Postlethwaite You remind me of someone a man I met in a half remembered dream He was possessed of some radical notions Saito Inception These lucid dream explorers form a crack team which penetrates the minds of other dreamers and roots around in their unconscious looking for secrets Inception is for Cobb one final job in which he must plant an idea in the mind of Fischer Murphy If successful he can return to his family free of criminal charges arising from corporate espionage and live the life of his dreams The score to Inception created by Hans Zimmer adds a further dimension to this story drawing us into the infinite lucid dream world Zimmer added a curious musical cue to denote when the dreamers moved from one level of reality to another he slowed down the wake up music Edith Piaf s 1960 Non je ne Regrette Rien to create the haunting brass blares which recur throughout the movie and trailer Check out this neat Inception music cue to see the effect broken down Final Thoughts If the central plot of Inception sounds too predictable don t worry because this movie is a lot more complex than any non spoiler synopsis will have you believe Inception weaves multiple threads into an exquisite tapestry leaving you reeling as you walk out of the movie theater with myriad questions and insights The ending is deliciously ambiguous allowing for post movie debate There are parts of this movie that resonate with all time sci fi favorites At times Inception felt like The Matrix for its original reality busting storyline and special effects as well as Donnie Darko for its mysterious and interpretive themes and conclusion As a whole this is an original and gripping movie balanced on the concept of lucid dreaming and the wily unconscious mind Even with extended gunfire scenes its only real downfall in my opinion there is so much thought provoking material here to keep you entertained for the long haul Inception is a must

  • Vanilla Sky Movie Review: Beyond Lucid Dreams
derangement There is also a great scene where Tech Support enters David s lucid dream and shows him how to control the behavior of everyone around him Lucid dreaming gold Best of all I like the conclusion of Vanilla Sky There is a subtle rundown of all the loose plot ends as David ascends into the sky in what has to be the world s tallest glass elevator a la Charlie and The Chocolate Factory The entire life of David and those close to him are drawn into scary perspective as we realize the true purpose of this movie Vanilla Sky Hits and Misses Vanilla Sky has a great supporting cast my favorite of which were Penelope Cruz Captain Corelli s Mandolin The Good Night Jason Lee Mallrats My Name is Earl Cameron Diaz There s Something About Mary Gangs of New York Tilda Swinton The Beach Adaptation Noah Taylor Pirates of the Caribbean Charlie and the Chocolate Factory As the main character Tom Cruise gets a lot of screen time For some reason his face just annoys most people I know I see what they mean But that s a ridiculous reason to shun this movie altogether which many do Vanilla Sky is massively underrated which sadly goes to show how few people actually know about or have a passion for lucid dreaming The soundtrack to this movie is great bold and eclectic It goes all over the place featuring Radiohead REM Paul McCartney The Monkees Leftfield Bob Dylan and The Chemical Brothers I especially like the upbeat music when David has his worst breakdown moments It becomes the soundtrack to his life Vanilla Sky Review This movie is the re make of the Spanish original Open Your Eyes which also starred Penelope Cruz Many people praise the Spanish version and say that Vanilla Sky is just an overproduced glossy Hollywood re make I think both versions are good in their own right You may find however that reading the Spanish subtitles in Abre Los Ojos impairs your movie enjoyment Vanilla Sky also boasts the bigger budget making for a more visually enticing feast My rating is 4 out of 5 stars I d give it 5 stars if only it appealed to a more people but it simply doesn t To that end my advice is if you enjoyed Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind you will almost certainly enjoy Vanilla Sky too See customer reviews on Amazon Share email facebook tumblr twitter reddit google pinterest Your Gateway to Lucid Dreams Some people dream to sleep Others sleep to dream Start now About the author Rebecca Turner is the creator of World of Lucid Dreaming where she offers valuable first hand insights Learn more about Rebecca Take her home study program Connect with her on Facebook Twitter and the lucid dream forum Latest Extraordinary fantasy art by Jeremiah Morelli Jeremiah Morelli is a whimsical fantasy artist and visual storyteller He places conceptual fairytale creatures in vivid dreamscapes to

to an audience to a kind of collective unconscious in almost the Jungian sense then it connects us all to that kind of childhood dreamlike state when the world was magical and infinite and scary and cool and you could soar So that was the concept behind these scenes And for me personally this was the part of the movie that I like the best that I can watch over and over again Our Avatar Future The seamless blend of real life actors and their CGI alien counterparts left me with an openness to blend reality with imagination Avatar is one of the earlier movies to be shot in 3D making it a more immersive experience But it also showcased the speed at which entertainment technology is developing It made me wonder how far are we from creating a virtual reality world of our own One in which we can frolic lucidly while fully awake and perform all kinds of stunts and impossible experiments Would such an experience live up to the majesty of lucid dreams Would it allow our unconscious to play a role in the formation of its elements Could such technology one day outstrip our lucid dreams Final Thoughts If you missed this movie it s a must for lucid dreamers You ll smile as Jake Sully first runs free in his virtual alien body recognizing the exact moment that Avatar becomes lucid It has the euphoric rush of liberation that accompanies realizing you are awake inside a dream Share email facebook tumblr twitter reddit google pinterest Your Gateway to Lucid Dreams Some people dream to sleep Others sleep to dream Start now About the author Rebecca Turner is the creator of World of Lucid Dreaming where she offers valuable first hand insights Learn more about Rebecca Take her home study program Connect with her on Facebook Twitter and the lucid dream forum Latest Extraordinary fantasy art by Jeremiah Morelli Jeremiah Morelli is a whimsical fantasy artist and visual storyteller He places conceptual fairytale creatures in vivid dreamscapes to capture the imagination He s also a school teacher and amazingly finds the time and motivation to create this huge gallery of artwork Such light and dark fairytale paintings make beautiful places to visit in your lucid dreams Latest 12 awesome Inception style dreamscapes Inspired and named for the notion of Flatland artist and photographer Aydin Buyuktas has created a series of works where a space of surprises creates a space that creates surprises Based on photos of Istanbul Buyuktas explains We live in places that most of the times don t draw our attention places that transform our memories places that the artist gives another dimension where the perceptions that generally crosses our minds will be demolished and new ones will arise These works aim to leave the viewer alone with a surprising visuality ironic as well as a multidimensional romantic point of view Latest 10 essential oils to boost lucid dreaming One summer the 19th century

  • Lucid Dreaming Interview with Rebecca Turner
too sleep deprived to become conscious during their REM sleep and some simply don t make the effort to remember their dreams which is essential And those are just the waking world mistakes There are also mistakes you can make while in the act of lucid dreaming itself For instance many beginners wake up after their first few seconds of lucidity because they failed to stabilize the dream Some people lose focus in the dream and forget to stay lucid Some try to run before they can walk learning to fly in the dream world is not second nature for everyone which is no surprise since we never learned to fly in real life either Some people seek only physical gratification and forget to pursue any other philosophical fruits offered by lucid dreaming There is an awareness behind the dream that shouldn t be ignored an idea most recently propagated by the lucid dream researcher Robert Waggoner When lucid we have the remarkable opportunity to communicate directly with the unconscious mind or inner self either through dream figures or the dream itself I often ask other dream figures questions such as What part of me do you represent The answers come from a second awareness separate from my own conscious thought and frequently blow me away It s a crying shame that most beginner lucid dreamers overlook this aspect altogether After becoming lucid is it possible to sink back into a normal non lucid dream state If so how would this occur Yes this is actually quite common in beginners It s a slipping away of mental focus in the dream and you have very little time to react usually you don t even recognize it s happening Maintaining lucidity means staying focused while all sorts of wonderful distracting things happen like flying over the ocean meeting your hero or traveling to other dimensions If you lose focus and become too absorbed in the experience it is quite easy to forget that you re dreaming Lucidity is lost That may sound hard to believe but remember that some of your cognitive faculties are reduced in the dream world It is quite natural to return to the classic dreaming viewpoint that is passively accepting the dream as reality Within seconds the details reduce to the level of a normal dream and your sense of awareness fades The dream is happening to you rather than you are happening to the dream Either the dream can fade to black you can wake up or you can end up continuing the exact same dream plot only now you are no longer lucid and it quickly takes a new direction To prevent this lucidity experts have developed a number of techniques for staying lucid For instance repeat out loud to yourself I m dreaming every 30 seconds or so When the dream shows signs of becoming vague rub your hands together to stimulate kinetic sensation which raises consciousness of your dream self and demand that the dream intensifies by saying aloud Clarity now The best way to stay lucid sometimes for up to an hour is possible in my experience is to practice The more familiar you become with the act of lucidity the easier it is to hold onto it while dreaming You ll develop a mindset of always questioning where you are and whether you are awake or dreaming right now This helps trigger and re trigger your lucidity throughout the entire experience I ve discussed this more in my articles How to Maintain Dream Control and How to Stay Lucid in Dreams It s an important balancing act for all lucid dreamers What s your favorite lucid dream Rebecca It s hard to identify a favorite lucid dream because all of my fully lucid dreams are cherished memories But I can tell you what I like most about lucid dreaming it s the freedom and beauty and depth of the experience There s one type of lucid dream I love in which I fly over richly detailed landscapes forests mountains lakes deserts and oceans while listening to the most stunning music whose source I cannot identify It is both physically and emotionally intense and I forget about any real world problems I guess it s the same feeling you might get from jumping out of a plane only that s something I don t have the courage to do in real life Another type of awesome lucid dream is the surreal kind in which I allow the dream to guide itself There s no doubt these dreams are fueled by my own waking experiences but they are delivered via the perspective of the unconscious mind and presumably my ego is less of a key player These dreams can go anywhere they can slip through to other dimensions or take place in empty space I think the best ones get away from familiar constructs and take me somewhere new both in terms of imaginary stimulus the dreamscape and emotional stimulus how it makes me feel and think If you re planning your first lucid dream and don t know what to do first imagine you re test driving the world s first virtual reality machine Everything you see feel hear smell and taste will be as realistic as waking life and there are zero limitations on what you can perceive What would you do This is the 1 question all lucid dreamers face Are lucid dreams the same as out of body experiences OBEs or astral projection AP Rebecca There are various viewpoints on this subject so I ll just share mine which is best aligned with the scientific view of the last three decades The out of body experience is a type of lucid dream It s no coincidence that OBE induction techniques are virtually identical to Wake Induced Lucid Dreams You start by lying in bed ideally having recently woken from a sleep The body quickly slips back into sleep paralysis
