  • How to Identify Your Personal Best Lucid Dream Induction Method
words when you conduct an experiment the null hypothesis is Move on there s nothing to see here people This is all just a waste of time This looks cynical but it is far from it You don t want ambiguity You have a question and want your answer It s like S or get off the pot Do we have something here or not We haves lives to return to Or in the words of Judge Smails from Caddyshack You ll get nothing and like it So what is the real hypothesis that is in favor of reality tests H1 There is a direct and positive relationship between reality tests and lucid dreaming Whether we prove H0 or H1 we win either way If I prove the null hypothesis reality checks are time wasters then Bravo I don t have to do them anymore and I can channel my inner Homer Simpson If I prove my real hypothesis they work then Bravo I have a new IV a new boxer s bell and I am delightfully proven wrong This is how an experiment should work What does that look like on paper I am glad you asked An Experiment in 3 Steps The Reality Test Step 1 Keep Everything Kool the Gang In Pulp Fiction Jules Samuel L Jackson as if you didn t already know asks a bunch of lamb like youth What s Fonzie like He does this to reassure them that all will be all right but all was so not all right KA BLAMMO The intrepid youth respond He s cool For our purposes you want to be like the Fonz In the language of the experiment you want to keep all other variables constant except for the 1 potential IV In practical terms make it a point to stick to your routine and change only that 1 variable in question in this case the reality test Otherwise you risk getting what are called confounding variables Essentially if you introduce both the reality test and a B6 vitamin and get a lucid dream then what caused it The former The latter Both The variables are now confounding But keep this in mind for a future experiment a reality test a B6 vitamin can be an IV together Just make that declaration at the beginning rather than changing the rules after the experiment has begun Step 1 Be Fonzie I will stick to my routine and add only the reality test doing nothing else new with respect to lucid dreaming changing sleep routine taking supplements etc Step 2 Lucid Dreamers Put a Number on It With apologies to Beyoncé oh god I am so sorry that is just awful but here we are When you write an entry into your dream journal you providing what are called qualitative data Prominent in the psychology field qualitative data are essentially testimony how people felt or what they thought about whatever variable x For our purposes we need some numbers here we need quantitative data Take my prospective memory calendar from earlier That comprises quantitative data I can take a month s worth of numbers and try to glean conclusions about how much time I need to sleep before I spontaneously wake up so that I can return to sleep and achieve a lucid dream for me 4 50 appears to be the sweet spot as averaged out over the year I know adding numbers to this cool skill set might harsh some people s mellow but actually this where things get exciting What if you found the magic number of reality tests that you need to get the job done There has be a sweet spot for us all right That Goldilocks number that point at which anything more is a waste of time but anything less will yield nothing What if you found that Think about how valuable that number is In weight loss I know exactly how many calories I need to either maintain my weight or drop a couple pounds or stones whatever they are I am from the US It d be nice to have that equivalent for lucid dreaming For our purposes I am going to use 10 reality tests as my baseline value Not only that but I am going to standardize how they go down that is you know how you can go into any Starbucks or McDonald s anywhere in the world and order something and it should theoretically taste the same no matter where you are That product is standardized subject to the same rules and processes to yield the same result Again that might come across as a buzz kill to the free spirit nature of this endeavor but what if you found the magic formula Wouldn t you do it over and over and over Are there any bakers out there Stop sniggering I mean the flour and sugar kind of baker Bakers know more than anyone that baking recipes are very standardized one wrong measurement can yield something inedible that would otherwise be devoured by your greedy friends and family For this experiment I am going to follow our fearless leader s lead A reliable way to do a reality check is set your digital watch to chime every hour see MILD I have a swimmer s lap watch with a vibration function that I am going to use for this experiment So I am ready to standardize my potential IV Remember the more specific the better Step 2 The Numbers Game For 4 weeks every Sunday through Friday with Saturdays off I will turn on my hourly alarm before noon 11 59 am and turn it off after 9 pm for a total of 10 reality tests per day 6 days a week Every time I feel the little vibration on my wrist I will ask Is this real and then I will look at my left inner wrist for an answer reality vs lucidity

  • How The Remote Senoi Tribes Use Dreams for Personal Growth
like positive thinking adopting an attitude towards finding positive solutions The psychological landscape of lucid dreams is such that our dream reality reacts much more directly to the quality of our thoughts than our waking reality A dream can change much faster and in a much more direct way than our waking reality can Therefore it is a perfect training ground to see the results of our thinking fearful thoughts will produce nightmares but as soon as we adopt a brave and solution oriented approach our dream landscape will change accordingly A Personal Example I once lay in my bed when I became aware that a big black wolf like monster was up to my face Potentially this was so scary that it could have frozen me in fear but luckily I began to think that this cannot be waking reality I must be in some sort of non physical reality I thought which helped me achieve lucidity From that moment on I concentrated on dispelling the intruder forming a strong focused intent was enough to send it away It was an empowering experience indeed the reality I experienced followed the quality of my thoughts The Senoi Rules and Lucid Dreams Experimenting with the Senoi rules I found that lucid dreams provide a fantastic opportunity to turn our weaknesses into strength Another personal example comes to my mind Throughout my life I was always extremely interested in the ultimate nature of reality and learned a lot about things which do not normally meet the naked eye I made many extraordinary experiences which I feel have proven to me the existence of non physical realities Despite that doubt has always been one of my greatest enemies So one night I had a lucid dream which was so powerful that it eventually turned into an out of body experience I enjoyed it tremendously especially since it involved flying How hard I find waking up from those I was flying towards a wall while I remember thinking Fly through it You have heard the accounts of many people it is possible to fly through walls in non ordinary realities So I tried to fly through the wall but I doubted myself so much that I only banged my head against it At least it didn t hurt Then I became conscious of the opportunity of self development and began telling myself You must lose your doubt You must believe you can and you will be able to I told this to myself for a long time and soon enough I began to believe I pushed my body through a wall which suddenly felt less dense and did what I previously thought was impossible Final Thoughts In a lucid dream world many of the laws of physics no longer apply Therefore we can fly because the law of gravity is no longer our concern However the laws of the psyche remain the same As the American industrialist Henry Ford once said Whether you think

  • How I Accidentally Started Having Lucid Dreams
as I was going about my daily life I would also meditate on it for a certain amount of time each day This started out as just 2 3 minutes spent with the phrase and built up to 5 minutes then two 5 minute periods then one 15 minute period and eventually got to the point where I was repeating the phrase of the day multiple times to myself per hour The thing to understand about these statements is that they re almost in exact opposition to the way that the mind automatically tends to think It is a different thought system Thus it took a good deal of concentration and intention to remember to stop throughout the day intend to say the phrase and then recall the phrase to memory after being absorbed in regular daily tasks This intense focus would bring about a potent moment of awareness at the time It was also building my ability to be aware of my own thoughts and silence the mind at will So one night I was dreaming not lucid at all and all of a sudden the habit I had developed of practicing these phrases kicked in I thought What is my exercise today like I d been doing regularly throughout the day for several weeks and BAM I was lucid At this point I had a revelation My awareness practice was enhancing my ability to be lucid and focused in the dream world It seemed that by building and developing my awareness in the waking world I was simultaneously building my dreaming awareness as well This only added fuel to the fire of my passion I kept practicing daily which led to gaining more and more clarity in the dream world and an ability to perform some pretty strange feats and exercises while lucid Exploring My Dreams These were very good times I began to give myself goals to accomplish made up games to play experienced things I d always wanted to experience I would fly up into the atmosphere sleep with attractive women and even better explore strange facets of dreaming that I d previously never known to exist This biggest feat I was able to accomplish was to wake up from one dream into another dream This was a mind blowing experience to me And just as my activities in my waking life were spilling over into the dream world my activities in the dream world were spilling over into my daily life The vividness that I was able to experience in dreams had such a huge irreversible impact on me At times my dreams seemed just as real just as solid as the real world This led me to realize the real world can have a very dream like quality about it The two are not so different when your level of awareness is the same These experiences changed my life and brought to a whole new level at understanding and experiencing the idea that life

  • On Tantra, Kundalini and The Cave of Power by Sean Kelly
I look out into the stunning environment Crystal clear blue sky gives way to the puff of white clouds threatening to spill its water upon us To my right a sheer kilometer dropoff down into glacier water Cliffs towering above as we move through the valley I simply cannot keep the giant grin off my face I feel completely alive The fresh air floods my lungs even as the oxygen in that air thins as we ascend It s truly the most beautiful place in India I ve ever seen Pure I become amazed at the skill of these ponies as we ascend and then descend steep slopes I also become amazed at my own trust in these beasts as I look down at the sheer drop of death that is one mere stumble away After a few close calls and slight buckles by my pony life becomes very real as I recognize its fragility Two chai stops and many hours later we re nearing the camp closest to the cave I happen to look down in the ravine and see the carcass of a dead pony lying at the bottom It s insides having been picked out by the sparse wildlife around Any sense of invincibility I had left destroyed The Surreality of Reality Arriving at a camp of military style tents we dismount from our trusted steeds pay our guides and make the short trek to a second camp right by the cave itself After leaving our stuff in one of the tents we all make our way up to the cave lungs struggling in the thin mountain air Step by step I go stone in hand until reaching the entrance Shoes are taken off as bare feet touch the cold stone floor connecting with the earth Now I find myself in the cave itself The energy throbbing as I chant a particular sound meant to stir up a particular energy The power of mantra combines with the throb of the caves own energy and in the middle am I Blessed to be here Truly blessed As I make my way down back to the sleeping area I look out across the horizon Pink clouds reflecting the light of the setting sun drape themselves over the distant mountains The rocks on my left curve in ways I never knew possible In a completely surreal environment I find myself simply there Real In peace Dissolving Energetically Back in the sleeping area we have two hours of sadhana to do using a specific mantra The use of mantra is fundamental to the science of tantra Mantra is the science of using certain sounds for achieving certain effects For me this sadhana feels especially tough The intensity of the environment the 14 000 foot altitude the surreal experience of the cave and a general sense of expansiveness makes the concentration for two hours difficult When I do come out of the practice I m floating on a cloud My energy feels

  • How Lucid Dreaming Kept Me from Losing My Mind by James Menta
I had mixed feeling about this On one hand it took away my thing up to that point I was convinced that I was special and I was the only one able to do it On the other hand it got me excited about new possibilities Not only in terms of releasing my frustration but in terms of getting to know myself better I was wrong though It proved to be much harder than I thought It soon became obvious to me that my high school frustration was a huge contributing factor That s where my real semi successful journey down the yellow brick road of lucid dreaming began I was living a carefree busy lifestyle and it proved to be much harder now to wake up in my dreams than it was for that high school kid obsessed by one thing that he couldn t have But I kept at it I tried pretty much everything the books were teaching me and I would have a spontaneous lucid dream every now and then Still none of them nearly as vivid and intense as the ones I had in high school In Search of Saska That was until I started using my own experience again My thinking was if these neurological pathways were already created in the past why am I now trying to do it all by the book and overwrite them I could be doing it all the intuitive way I developed back in high school So I went back to Saska I went back to looking for her in my dreams and occasionally in reality knowing all the time that she was hundreds of miles away aged with children and probably grandchildren And you know what That worked better than anything I learned in books I would find her still a high school girl but she was no longer the center of my dreams She was just a trigger A powerful dream trigger to wake me to the fact that I was dreaming and that I could do whatever I want Now I just see Saska in my dreams and become lucid I then walk away to explore other realms fly battle hordes of demons or stand up to the big guy that cut in front of the line at the bank few days back anything that comes to mind at the moment And in the days after I have a lucid dream my life has a completely different edge to it than usual It s completely liberating About The Guest Author James Menta is an outdoor enthusiast turned blogger from Fairbanks Alaska Born and raised in the last frontier state he spent most of his life running his family grocery store business using every chance he got to travel and experience the great outdoors Today he is a father of two and grandfather of four running his blog on air mattresses and exploring sleep in general Share email facebook tumblr twitter reddit google pinterest Your Gateway

  • How to Use Lucid Dreaming for Self Improvement by Alexsandar Atanasoski
the experience stronger so the clearer the lucid dream visualization the better The same goes for normal visualizations so if you have experience apply the same principle here Use real world objects people places and situations Whenever you can draw on objects from your real life Even mundane or trivial details will help align the visualization with your real world experience making it more real and more powerful Develop detailed dream recall A greater dream memory means you ll be able to harness this technique as a more effective self development tool The more detailed the recall the stronger the effect Creating a Lucid Dream Storyline for Improving Your Public Speaking Skills Here s an example of the technique in action Become lucid stabilize the dream and increase the vividness For tips on this front see How to Stay Lucid and Increase Your Lucidity Go to the exact place where you are supposed to deliver your speech in real life But before walking out on the stage bring to mind all the details about the room and the people inside like some of the people you know might be watching Before going out give yourself a boost with a few affirmations of confidence they should be super strong in a lucid dream and also become amused about what s going to happen next Finally go out and deliver your perfect speech Ask questions tell jokes and engage the audience simulating the whole thing with all the details Your engineered lucid dream is complete There You have gone through the experience and it s now an actual memory You will feel that you have done it in the past and you can always recall that memory to give yourself a boost when you need it How to Use Lucid Dreaming for Long Term Goals There are some challenges that require your commitment for months or even years How do you create a storyline for this Fortunately time in lucid dreams is relative and we can engineer lucid dreams in which we feel like we have lived an entire life For example let s say that you have the goal of losing 20 pounds You can fast forward through time in your dream six months in the future See your dream self eating the right foods being super dedicated working out regularly getting much needed sleep and so forth Another method is to travel forward in time and talk to your future healthy self Let him tell you the great story of his your success After you ve done this you should have a much clearer picture about how it feels to have gone through the transformation and how you would actually look But the best thing is that you now have the feeling that you have done it in the past and the confidence associated with this will help you get the same results in waking life Now the next time you go to the gym just remember your dream and
