    records and documents that record the experience of expatriate life The archive particularly favours primary source materials that express the diverse viewpoints of expat life It is also responsible for programmes promoting the collection of manuscripts and other source material related to living abroad At present the collection primarily comprises material nearly 20 different languages encompassing more than 50 countries The team includes the Director the Archivist the Office Manager the PR Marketing Manager and approximately 20 volunteers The PR Marketing Manager will report to the Director of the EAC Responsibilities Promote the EAC to potential donors researchers and other interested parties worldwide Develop marketing and social media strategy Maintain EAC brand identity Manage PR volunteers provide training if needed Manage and monitor engagement via social media channels including Facebook Twitter and LinkedIn Manage website content and monitor usage statistics Write and edit press releases and articles Organise and attend events to promote the work of the EAC Keep up to date with topics related to expatriation Job Qualifications and Skill Requirements for an ideal candidate Degree or equivalent experience in PR marketing or a related field Native English speaker or high level of spoken and written English other languages

  • Utrecht Students Explore the Third Culture Kid Experience - Expatriate Archive Centre - A Home For Expat Life Stories
    is something that many of them may not consider Dirk Postma lecturer and researcher in Community Development at the Institute of Social Work at the Utrecht University of Applied Sciences collaborated with EAC Director Kristine Racina to set up a student project examining whether TCKs were willing to share their life experiences Oral History Last year a group of students Asmaa El Moudden Julie Toonen Esther Jansen Lisa van Oost Thomas Parie Ryanne Kelly and Ruben Heinen carried out face to face interviews with 34 TCKs Their main focus was the question to what extent do adolescent children of expatriates living in the city of Utrecht feel the desire to share their third culture experiences with others in their neighbourhood The presented their findings at the Utrecht University of Applied Sciences in November 2014 concluding that this oral history project was indeed worthwhile The Next Step Recently another student from Utrecht has taken up the challenge Kim Schinkel arranged a meet up with TCKs in June 2015 The attendees were enthusiastic about sharing their experiences and the chance to meet face to face with staff from the EAC people who are passionate about preserving life stories such as theirs was

  • 26th October-14th November, 2015: Local Archives Bring the Past of The Hague Alive - Expatriate Archive Centre - A Home For Expat Life Stories
    photographs maps and audio visual materials covering the history of The Hague The collection is held in a climate controlled area of The Hague City Hall on 14 kilometres of shelves Access to the collection is available to the public and nearly 12 000 people per year visit it to explore the city s history often in connection with their own family roots The Expatriate Archive Centre EAC is a private archive also located in The Hague with a tightly focused collection extending back to the 19 th century The EAC holds personal and family records of expatriates from around the world The collection contains materials in 12 different languages covering over 80 countries Academic researchers come to the EAC from around the world to study topics relating to all aspects of the expatriate experience The American Women s Club of The Hague which for eighty years has provided a home away from home for Americans and other expats delved into their archives for text and photographs to donate to the exhibition The British School in The Netherlands has educated expatriate children in The Hague since before WWII and also reached into its own archives to provide materials for the exhibition The Expat Journal local newspaper Haagsche Courant Shell Destinations magazine The Hague University of Applied Sciences and the International Institute of Social Studies a graduate school that is part of Erasmus University in Rotterdam each donated from their own archives Private individuals also responded to the call for materials with their personal stories The exhibit is curated by Natalie McIlroy Assistance with the logistics of organizing the exhibition comes from ACCESS a non profit based in The Hague that provides practical information advice support and services to expatriates in the Netherlands Sponsors include Shell The Hague Bridge CB I

  • Farewell to EAC PR & Marketing Manager Peta Chow - Expatriate Archive Centre - A Home For Expat Life Stories
    for the EAC She was also heavily involved in promoting and organising the 2013 academic Symposium hosted by the EAC on the topic of The Expatriate Experience Past and Present One of her best memories from her time at the EAC is of addressing the Federation of American Women s Clubs Overseas at their Conference in Brussels in 2014 She also loves the opportunities to speak to people about the concept of the EAC and seeing the lightbulb moment when they change their opinion about the work done here The EAC including volunteers board members and staff members past and present celebrated Peta s work with an afternoon party in the garden where she was presented with a vase decorated with windmills to help her remember her time here in the Netherlands and at the EAC Peta will be relocating to Norway and looks back fondly on her time working in the friendly and international environment of the EAC and the fantastic volunteers who do so much Those who have worked with Peta will miss her friendly happy personality her amazing IT skills and the way she has truly made the role of PR Marketing Manager of the EAC her

    and country There is no doubt that The Hague is truly an international city and this upcoming exhibition provisionally titled Expat History of The Hague seeks to showcase that No matter if you arrived in the 1950 s or the 2010 s being an expat can be tough funny rewarding and exhausting sometimes all in the same day Through your letters photos blog entries and emails we hope to show how varied The Hague s expat community is that expat stories matter and just how much expats have contributed to the city How can you help Do you have photographs letters or diary entries from your time in The Hague We would love to see them Do you know someone who lived in The Hague back in the 50s 60s or 70s We especially need materials from decades past so please get in contact In English Dutch or any other language we want to hear about your experiences in this wonderful city Maybe you aren t an expat yourself but have worked for an expat organization or have strong connections with the expat community Let us know about it And of course even if you don t have anything to donate please mark your calendar for this exciting exhibit I like to live in Freiburg But still after 16 years each time I get out of the train at Den Haag Centraal I am coming home Do you know of an organisation that we should talk to In our search for stories and contributions we re talking to several of the international schools churches with expatriate congregations and other expat related organisations but we may have missed yours If you think we should talk to an organisation that you re involved with maybe one that has old photos or interesting
