  • Ellen Loves Him and So Do We: Interview with Steve Spangler -
I thought it would be I wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon but now that I went and actually did this for a summer and watched I don t think I really want to do that But what I want to do and so it hopefully introduces another potential passion to explore 3 Create Opportunity Once you get that spark and the champions we as parents come in and go How can I give you opportunities to be able to now take this to the next level Easiest example would be college but other examples would be something as simple as guitar lessons Wow I didn t realize you like guitar that much or soccer or some sort of sport or lacrosse whatever it might be Parents must put enough things in front of their kids to help them find that spark Are you good at applying this to your own life I work at it but sometimes I need to step back I took up speech and debate in junior high and continued in high school where I did well bringing home state and national titles as well as some much needed scholarship money It only made sense to share my passion for public speaking with my three sons in hopes that they would love it too In fact my oldest son brought home two state titles and my youngest teen has a national championship under his belt When my oldest son went to high school I kept asking if he had signed up for speech and debate He kept having excuse after excuse week after week One day he finally said Dad I don t want to do that I don t want to be you when you were in high school I really love theater I had tried to push him into something that didn t interest him because I didn t want him to miss the opportunity When to jump in and jump out that is the art of parenting What sparked your passion for science I grew up in this family of professional magicians My dad actually had two jobs During the day he was a chemical engineer and he was also a very accomplished magician who often combined his talents to create some amazing things For example my father was well known in the 1970s as the guy who created the world s best fake blood used by the rock band KISS the magicians Penn and Teller television and movie studios and many others I was fascinated by my dad s chemistry early on My dad really had this knack for chemical magic he d take a colorless liquid that looked like water and pour it into another colorless liquid and instantly the new liquid would turn jet black This is how he grabbed my attention I would say Dad how did that work and he d say I can t teach you that now because you haven t learned your acids and bases

  • Actors Connie Shulman and Reed Birney Talk Parenting - YT Magazine
I decided to test the waters again and called an old friend who is running his own agency He sent me out on this pilot for a series for Netflix I thought the character went in and out of the prison and left the show But I was in for a rude awakening Are you and your character similar Yes We are both very sensitive We feel things very deeply and in a difficult situation our coping mechanism is to dig deep Her sensitivity her thoughtfulness about including everyone and the perception that she is someone you can confide in I certainly hope I am like that Is the cast like a family It s like a girls high school You find your groups like in any situation you find the people you get along with I m older on the show and I have kids so I m coming from a different place than a lot of the other women Just like any job situation you find your buddies What are your parenting styles I am completely without reservation an attachment parent As soon as I got pregnant I left acting Even though it went against the tide our babies slept in our bed We never left our babies in their cribs to cry themselves to sleep because everything in my body felt like that was so wrong And our kids went everywhere with us They still do How did that translate when they became teenagers I don t push independence on them That is a New York City mentality let them soar early and take subways when they are 11 I think it is completely the opposite Give them security then they feel like they can soar My daughter slept with me as a baby nursed a long time I went to kindergarten with her And now she does runway modeling shows and flew alone to Chicago to audition for a pilot You can only parent based on your instincts or read advice books My kicking and screaming instincts were against the tides Lots of people thought I was crazy for not making my son go to college I let my kids swim against the tides Were you raised the same way I am one of seven kids and I grew up in East Tennessee I went to college because that is what you did when you graduated from high school There wasn t much option But I look back and say if I could do something differently I would not have gone Especially for an artist It won t further your career Reed how do you approach parenting I feel very much like a scribe to Connie in parenting but really because she is the primary caregiver I would say my role in the household is really to keep everyone from panicking I ll step in when somebody is on the verge of a freak out It s going to be okay In the big picture it

  • Tyler Henry is a Medium You Can Believe In
coming to an understanding not only of my ability but the fact that I was different which I think so many people can relate to and I came to a realization about and for me that was a whole process where I had to really find an acceptance and as many people can relate that can be difficult when people are bullying you or scrutinizing you That was something I had to deal with Did you have support around you I was very lucky to have good support systems and incredible parents That was in a big way what got me through I m an only child so I had to rely on my parents and I didn t feel like I could rely on people my own age As you hit adolescence different is cool at a certain point Did you experience that As I got into high school people became much more polarized There were people who were incredibly supportive and people who were not but that was something I was thankfully able to cope with I would worry if I were in your life that you could see my soul like there s something about your capacity that will give information that you might not want to share Do you ever feel that way There are times information comes through and I have to be diplomatic because I m dealing with people s personal lives I focus on clients most vulnerable traumatic moments I have to be careful and gentle with how I present things That s tough to navigate but the only information I ask for from spirits is information that can help heal and eliminate barriers my clients have Is that because you set mental limitations or because you re sensitive in delivery I establish that I only want to receive information that I know can make a difference It would be a burden to receive negative information that I couldn t change With delivery I am understanding compassionate and empathetic to people s feelings Is it time bound Time isn t a big focus on the other side Spirits can come through differently depending on how long ago they passed Sometimes if someone s passed recently they won t know how to communicate and have to learn The person who passed has to acquire skills They have to familiarize themselves with their environment on the other side and understand how to communicate and give signs Some are more naturally inclined than others In our world we all communicate differently Not much in that capacity changes on the other side Are you able to see people in your own life Can you connect with your grandmother To an extent I m able to connect to my own people but I haven t felt my grandmother come through in quite some time because her soul is where it needs to be I don t need to stay in touch because I know she s fine whereas
